Abstract:Determining the topology of an algebraic surface is not only an interesting mathematical problem, but also a key issue in computer graphics and CAGD. An algorithm is proposed to determine the intrinsic topology of an implicit real algebraic surface f(x,y,z) = 0 in R3, where f(x,y,z) ∈ Q[x,y,z] and Q is the field of rational numbers. There exist algorithms to determine the topology for algebraic surfaces of special type [2, 3, 4, 7]. The CAD method proposed by Collins [1] can divide the space into cylindrical parts. But it does not give the connection information neither the intrinsic representation.

Abstract:An algorithm is proposed to determine the topology of an implicit real algebraic surface in ℝ3. The algorithm consists of three steps: surface projection, projection curve topology determination and surface patches composition. The algorithm provides a curvilinear wireframe of the surface and the surface patches of the surface determined by the curvilinear wireframe, which have the same topology as the surface. Most of the surface patches are curvilinear polygons. Some examples are used to show that our algorithm is effective.

In the proofs, we use the weight homogeneous polynomials and the method of characteristic curves for solving linear partial differential equations. Finally, we have obtained three types of Darboux polynomials of the Vallis system under suitable conditions of parameters.

Abstract:We give a combinatorial model for r-spin surfaces with parametrised boundary based on Novak (2015). The r-spin structure is encoded in terms of $\mathbb{Z}_r$-valued indices assigned to the edges of a polygonal decomposition. This combinatorial model is designed for our state sum construction of two-dimensional topological field theories on r-spin surfaces. We show that an example of such a topological field theory computes the Arf-invariant of an r-spin surface as introduced in Geiges, Gonzalo (2012) and Randal-Williams (2014). This implies in particular that the r-spin Arf-invariant is constant on orbits of the mapping class group, providing an alternative proof of that fact.

3-Alterfolds and Quantum Invariants

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the concept of 3-alterfolds with embedded separating surfaces. When the separating surface is decorated by a spherical fusion category, we obtain quantum invariants of 3-alterfold, which is consistent with many topological moves. These moves provide evaluation algorithms for various presentations of 3-alterfold, e.g. Heegaard splittings, triangulations, link surgeries. In particular, we obtain quantum invariants of 3-manifolds containing surfaces, generalizing those of 3-manifolds containing framed links. Moreover, in this framework, we topologize fundamental algebraic concepts. For instance, we implement the Drinfeld center by tube diagrams as a blow up of framed links. The topologized center leads to a quick proof of the equality between the Reshetikhin-Turaev invariants and the Turaev-Viro invariants for spherical fusion categories. In addition, we topologize half-braiding, $S$-matrix and the generalized Frobenius-Schur indicators, etc. In particular, the latter leads to a quick topological proof of the equivariance of the generalized Frobenius-Schur indicators.

Abstract:We show that the KZ system has a purely topological interpretation in the sense that it may be understood as a variation of complex mixed Hodge structure whose successive pure weight quotients are polarized. This in a sense completes and elucidates work of Schechtman-Varchenko done in the early 1990's. A central ingredient is a new realization of the irreducible highest weight representations of a Lie algebra of Kac-Moody type, namely on an algebra of rational polydifferentials on a countable product of Riemann spheres.

Abstract:In the study of 2d (the space dimension) topological orders, it is well-known that bulk excitations are classified by unitary modular tensor categories. But these categories only describe the local observables on an open 2-disk in the long wave length limit. For example, the notion of braiding only makes sense locally. It is natural to ask how to obtain global observables on a closed surface. The answer is provided by the theory of factorization homology. We compute the factorization homology of a closed surface $\Sigma$ with the coefficient given by a unitary modular tensor category, and show that the result is given by a pair $(\mathbf{H}, u_\Sigma)$, where $\mathbf{H}$ is the category of finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces and $u_\Sigma\in \mathbf{H}$ is a distinguished object that coincides precisely with the Hilbert space assigned to the surface $\Sigma$ in Reshetikhin-Turaev TQFT. We also generalize this result to a closed stratified surface decorated by anomaly-free topological defects of codimension 0,1,2. This amounts to compute the factorization homology of a stratified surface with a coefficient system satisfying an anomaly-free condition.

Abstract:A tautological system, introduced in [17, 18], arises as a regular holonomic system of partial differential equations that govern the period integrals of a family of complete intersections in a complex manifold X, equipped with a suitable Lie group action. In this article, we introduce two formulas-one purely algebraic, the other geometric-to compute the rank of the solution sheaf of such a system for CY hypersurfaces in a generalized flag variety. The algebraic version gives the local solution space as a Lie algebra homology group, while the geometric one as the middle de Rham cohomology of the complement of a hyperplane section in X. We use both formulas to find certain degenerate points for which the rank of the solution sheaf becomes 1. These rank 1 points appear to be good candidates for the so-called large complex structure limits in mirror symmetry. The formulas are also used to prove a conjecture of Hosono, Lian, and Yau, on the completeness of the extended GKZ system when X is P-n [12].

Abstract:In this paper, we characterize all the irreducible Darboux polynomials and polynomial first integrals of the FitzHugh-Nagumo system by the called characteristic curves method which involves the theory of weight homogeneous polynomials. It has been ever widely used to give a complete classification of Darboux polynomials of some systems. However, it does not work for the FitzHugh-Nagumo system. Thus, we introduce an “assistant” system and classify its invariant algebraic surfaces finally.

Abstract:Two new invariants f ((1,1)) and g ((1,1)) were introduced by Du and Yau for solving the complex Plateau problem. These invariants measure in some sense how far away the complex manifolds are from having global complex coordinates. In this paper, we study these two invariants further for rational surface singularities. We prove that these two invariants never vanish for rational surface singularities, which confirms Yau's conjecture for strict positivity of these two invariants. As an application, we solve regularity problem of the Harvey-Lawson solution to the complex Plateau problem for a strongly pseudoconvex compact rational CR manifold of dimension 3. We also construct resolution manifolds for rational triple points by means of local coordinates and show that f ((1,1)) = g ((1,1)) = 1 for rational triple points.

Abstract:The complex Grassmann manifolds appear as one of the fundamental objects in developing an interaction between algebraic geometry and algebraic topology. The case is of special interest on its own as the manifolds have several remarkable properties which distinguish them from the for . In our paper we obtain results which, essentially using the specifics of the Grassmann manifolds , develop connections between algebraic geometry and equivariant topology. They are related to well-known problems of the canonical action of the algebraic torus on and the induced action of the compact torus . Kapranov proved that the Deligne-Mumford-Grothendieck-Knudsen compactification of the space of -pointed rational stable curves can be realized as the Chow quotient . In recent papers of the authors a constructive description of the orbit space was obtained. In deducing this result the notions of the complex of admissible polytopes and the universal space of parameters for the -action on were of essential use. Using the techniques of wonderful compactification, in this paper an explicit construction of the space is presented. In combination with Keel's description of , this construction enabled one to obtain an explicit diffeomorphism between and . In this way, we give a description of as the space with a structure described in terms of admissible polytopes and spaces . Bibliography: 32 titles.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of (0,m)-Codazzi tensors relative to an affine connection which extends the well known concept for m = 2. On compact Riemannian surfaces of genus γ we determine the dimension of the R-vector space of traceless Codazzi tensors, which depends on m and γ only, additionally we extend these result for genus zero. We give some exemplary applications to submanifolds in affine and in Riemannian geometry and to Weyl geometries.

Abstract:The object of this paper is to study GL(2,R) orbit closures in hyperelliptic components of strata of abelian differentials. The main result is that all higher rank affine invariant submanifolds in hyperelliptic components are branched covering constructions, i.e. every translation surface in the affine invariant submanifold covers a translation surface in a lower genus hyperelliptic component of a stratum of abelian differentials. This result implies finiteness of algebraically primitive Teichmuller curves in all hyperelliptic components for genus greater than two. A classification of all GL(2, R) orbit closures in hyperelliptic components of strata (up to computing connected components and up to finitely many nonarithmetic rank one orbit closures) is provided. Our main theorem resolves a pair of conjectures of Mirzakhani in the case of hyperelliptic components of moduli space.
