Detection of Cytokines in CD4 + T Lymphocytes in the Peripheral Blood of Patients with Condyloma Acuminatum

Abstract:Objective To detect cytokine levels of IL-2,IL-12,IFN-γ and IL-4 secreted by peripheral CD4+T lymphocytes in patients with condyloma acuminatum (CA),and to investigate their roles in the pathogenesis of CA.Methods Flow cytometric analysis was employed to study intracellular cytokines (IL-2,IL-12,INF-γ and IL-4) in CD4+T lymphocytes in the peripheral blood of 60 patients with CA and 20 healthy controls.Results The percentage of IL-2-producing,IL-12-producing and IFN-γ-producing CD4+T lymphocytes were significantly lower (P0.001) in CA patients than that in the healthy controls,while the per-centage of IL-4-producing CD4+T lymphocytes had no significant change in CA patients in comparison with healthy controls(P0.05);the ratio of Th1/Th2 was lower in CA patients than that in healthy controls(P0.001).Conclusion There is Th1/Th2 imbalance with a decline of IL-2,IL-12 and IFN-γ-producing CD4+T lymphocytes in CA patients.The Th1/Th2 imbalance might be an important cause for the onset and recurrence of CA.
