Static tests on ring-beam connections for SRC columns and RC beams under symmetrical load

Abstract:A novel ring-beam connection is proposed for steel reinforced concrete(SRC) columns and RC beams.The force transferring mechanism is as follows: the shear forces and moments of the RC beams were firstly transferred to the ringbeam connections and then to the SRC columns.A series of monotonic static tests were conducted to verify the applicability and effectiveness of the ring-beam connections.In the tests,vertical loads were firstly applied to the tops of the columns to simulate the effects of the gravity,and then forces were exerted to the beams.The results from the tests show that the ring-beam connections with appropriate design can satisfy strong connection weak beam requirement.Simple design methods are suggested based on the test results.
