In this paper, we focus on the combinatorics of Schmidt type partition theorems and characterize them in a general and refined form. In addition, we also present some overpartition analogues of Schmidt type partition theorems.

Abstract:In 1980, Bressoud conjectured a combinatorial identity $A_j=B_j$ for $j=0$ or $1$. In this paper, we introduce a new partition function $\overline{B}_0$ which can be viewed as an overpartition analogue of the partition function $B_0$. An overpartition is a partition such that the last occurrence of a part can be overlined. We build a bijection to get a relationship between $\overline{B}_0$ and $B_1$, based on which an overpartition analogue of Bressoud's conjecture for $j=0$ is obtained.

Abstract:Recently, Deutsch and Elizalde have studied the largest and the smallest fixed points of permutations. Motivated by their work, we consider the analogous problems in set partitions. Let An,k denote the number of partitions of {1,2,…,n+1} with the largest singleton {k+1} for 0≤k≤n. In this paper, several explicit formulas for An,k, involving a Dobinski-type analog, are obtained by algebraic and combinatorial methods. Furthermore, many combinatorial identities involving An,k and Bell numbers are presented by operator methods, and congruence properties of An,k are also investigated. It is shown that the sequences (An+k,k)n≥0 and (An+k,k)k≥0 (mod p) are periodic for any prime p, and contain a string of p−1 consecutive zeroes. Moreover their minimum periods are conjectured to be Np=pp−1p−1.

Abstract:In this work, we study type B set partitions for a given specific positive integer $k$ defined over $\langle n\rangle=\{-n, -(n-1),\cdots -1,0,1,\cdots n-1,n\}$. We found a few generating functions of type B analogue for some of the set partition statistics defined by Wachs, White and Steingrimsson for partitions over positive integers $[n] =\{1,2,\cdots n\}$, both for standard and ordered set partitions respectively. We extended the idea of restricted growth functions utilized by Wachs and White for set partitions over $[n]$, in the scenario of $\langle n\rangle$ and called the analogue as Signed Restricted Growth Function (SRGF).

Abstract:Combinatorics Recently, Deutsch and Elizalde studied the largest fixed points of permutations. Motivated by their work, we consider the analogous problems in weighted set partitions. Let A (n,k) (t) denote the total weight of partitions on [n + 1] = \1,2,..., n + 1\ with the largest singleton \k + 1\. In this paper, explicit formulas for A (n,k) (t) and many combinatorial identities involving A (n,k) (t) are obtained by umbral operators and combinatorial methods. In particular, the permutation case leads to an identity related to tree enumerations, namely, [GRAPHICS] where D-k is the number of permutations of [k] with no fixed points.

On colored set partitions of type $B_n$

Abstract:Generalizing Reiner's notion of set partitions of type $B_n$, we define colored $B_n$-partitions by coloring the elements in and not in the zero-block respectively. Considering the generating function of colored $B_n$-partitions, we get the exact formulas for the expectation and variance of the number of non-zero-blocks in a random colored $B_n$-partition. We find an asymptotic expression of the total number of colored $B_n$-partitions up to an error of $O(n^{-1/2}\log^{7/2}{n})$, and prove that the centralized and normalized number of non-zero-blocks is asymptotic normal over colored $B_n$-partitions.

Abstract:The $(k,i)$-singular overpartitions, combinatorial objects introduced by Andrews in 2015, are known to satisfy Ramanujan-type congruences modulo any power of prime coprime to $6k$. In this paper we consider the parity of the number $\overline{C}_{k,i}(n)$ of $(k,i)$-singular overpartitions of $n$. In particular, we give a sufficient condition on even values of $k$ so that the values of $\overline{C}_{4k,k}(n)$ are almost always even. Furthermore, we show that for odd values of $k \leq 23$, $k\neq 19$, certain subsequences of $\overline{C}_{4k,k}(n)$ are almost always even.

The complexity of class polynomial computation via floating point approximations

Abstract:We analyse the complexity of computing class polynomials, that are an important ingredient for CM constructions of elliptic curves, via complex floating point approximations of their roots. The heart of the algorithm is the evaluation of modular functions in several arguments. The fastest one of the presented approaches uses a technique devised by Dupont to evaluate modular functions by Newton iterations on an expression involving the arithmetic-geometric mean. It runs in time $O (|D| \log^5 |D| \log \log |D|) = O (|D|^{1 + \epsilon}) = O (h^{2 + \epsilon})$ for any $\epsilon > 0$, where $D$ is the CM discriminant and $h$ is the degree of the class polynomial. Another fast algorithm uses multipoint evaluation techniques known from symbolic computation; its asymptotic complexity is worse by a factor of $\log |D|$. Up to logarithmic factors, this running time matches the size of the constructed polynomials. The estimate also relies on a new result concerning the complexity of enumerating the class group of an imaginary-quadratic order and on a rigorously proven upper bound for the height of class polynomials.

Abstract:Recent works at the interface of algebraic combinatorics, algebraic geometry, number theory and topology have provided new integer-valued invariants on integer partitions. It is natural to consider the distribution of partitions when sorted by these invariants in congruence classes. We consider the prominent situations that arise from extensions of the Nekrasov–Okounkov hook product formula and from Betti numbers of various Hilbert schemes of n points on . For the Hilbert schemes, we prove that homology is equidistributed as . For t-hooks, we prove distributions that are often not equidistributed. The cases where stand out, as there are congruence classes where such counts are zero. To obtain these distributions, we obtain analytic results of independent interest. We determine the asymptotics, near roots of unity, of the ubiquitous infinite products

Abstract:A bipartite state rho(AB) has a k-symmetric extension if there exists a (k + 1)-partite state rho(AB1B2....Bk) with marginals rho(ABi) = rho(AB) ,for all i. The k-symmetric extension is called bosonic if rho(AB1B2...Bk) is supported on the symmetric subspace of B1 B2 . . . Bk. Understanding the structure of symmetric and bosonic extension has various applications in the theory of quantum entanglement, quantum key distribution, and the quantum marginal problem. In particular, bosonic extension gives a tighter bound for the quantum marginal problem based on separability. In general, it is known that a rho(AB) admitting symmetric extension may not have bosonic extension. In this work, we show that, when the dimension of the subsystem B is 2 (i.e., a qubit), rho(AB) admits a k-symmetric extension if and only if it has a k-bosonic extension. Our result has an immediate application to the quantum marginal problem and indicates a special structure for qubit systems based on group representation theory.

Abstract:Bressoud introduced the partition function $B(\alpha_1,\ldots,\alpha_\lambda;\eta,k,r;n)$, which counts the number of partitions with certain difference conditions. Bressoud posed a conjecture on the generating function for the partition function $B(\alpha_1,\ldots,\alpha_\lambda;\eta,k,r;n)$ in multi-summation form. In this article, we introduce a bijection related to Bressoud's conjecture. As an application, we give a new companion to the Göllnitz-Gordon identities.

Abstract:We establish a hook length bias between self-conjugate partitions and partitions of distinct odd parts, demonstrating that there are more hooks of fixed length $t \geq 2$ among self-conjugate partitions of $n$ than among partitions of distinct odd parts of $n$ for sufficiently large $n$. More precisely, we derive asymptotic formulas for the total number of hooks of fixed length $t$ in both classes. This resolves a conjecture of Ballantine, Burson, Craig, Folsom, and Wen.

In type $\tilde B$ (and \emph{almost} in type $\tilde D$), the diagrams also model the larger lattice defined by McCammond and Sulway.

Abstract:Let ${\cal B}$ be a nontrivial biplane of order $k-2$ represented by symmetric canonical incidence matrix with trace $1+ \binom{k}{2}$. We proved that ${\cal B}$ includes a partially balanced incomplete design with association scheme of three classes. Consequently, these structures are symmetric, having $2k-6$ points. While it is not known whether this class is finite or infinite, we show that there is a related superclass with infinitely many representatives.

Abstract:Singletons are those unitary irreducible modules of the Poincare or (anti) de Sitter group that can be lifted to unitary modules of the conformal group. Higher-spin algebras are the corresponding realizations of the universal enveloping algebra of the conformal algebra on these modules. These objects appear in a wide variety of areas of theoretical physics: AdS/CFT correspondence, electric-magnetic duality, higher-spin multiplets, infinite-component Majorana equations, higher-derivative symmetries, etc. Singletons and higher-spin algebras are reviewed through a list of their many equivalent definitions in order to approach them from various perspectives. The focus of this introduction is on the symmetries of a singleton: its maximal algebra and the manifest realization thereof.

Abstract:The distribution of cardinalities of zero-sum sets in abelian groups is completely determined. A complex summation involving the Möbius function is given for the general abelian group, while in many special cases, including the case of elementary abelian groups, solved earlier by Li and Wan, it has a compact form. The proof involves two different Möbius transforms, on positive integers and on set partitions.

Abstract:We introduce a family of univariate polynomials indexed by integer partitions. At prime powers, they count the number of subspaces in a finite vector space that transform under a regular diagonal matrix in a specified manner. This enumeration formula is a combinatorial solution to a problem introduced by Bender, Coley, Robbins and Rumsey. At $1$, they count set partitions with specified block sizes. At $0$, they count standard tableaux of specified shape. At $-1$, they count standard shifted tableaux of a specified shape. These polynomials are generated by a new statistic on set partitions (called the interlacing number) as well as a polynomial statistic on standard tableaux. They allow us to express $q$-Stirling numbers of the second kind as sums over standard tableaux and as sums over set partitions. For partitions whose parts are at most two, these polynomials are the non-zero entries of the Catalan triangle associated to the $q$-Hermite orthogonal polynomial sequence. In particular, when all parts are equal to two, they coincide with the polynomials defined by Touchard that enumerate chord diagrams by the number of crossings.

Abstract:In this paper we study the enumeration problem of a special kind of branched coverings of the Riemann sphere, whose partition function can be regarded as a generalization of the dessin partition function. First we derive a cut-and-join type representation for the generalized dessin partition function using the actions of $W$-type operators on Schur functions. Then we study the polynomial structures of the generalized dessin partition function. We prove a polynomial structure for the disconnected correlators which generalizes a result of Stanley, and then propose a conjectural polynomial structure for the connected correlators. We prove the $1$-point case of this conjecture using the KP integrability of this partition function.
