Abstract:The voltage-gated sodium channel is essential in the generation and conduction of action potentials.The biophysical properties of this ion channel can determine the response of nociceptor to noxious stimuli as well as the final level of pain.Sodium channels may affect the activation and inactivation of other ion channels(such as the activation of potassium channels,calcium channels)to change the response of neurons to the stimuli,thus the sodium ion channels are potential targets for the treatment of neuropathic pain.Understanding the ion channel expression is of great importance to the control of neuronal excitability as well as the treatment of pain.
