Abstract:Due to a TE-wave normal incidence, the penetrated and scattered Welds in the presence of a nonuniform cold magnetized plasma column are investigated in this work. The mathematical treatment is based on the direct integral equation formulated for describing the currents on the surrounded multiple apertures of the plasma column. To formulate such an integral equation, two-dimensional magnetic dyadic Green's functions in multilayered cylindrical shells are derived in terms of the cylindrical vector wave functions. By using Galerkin's method, the magnetic currents on all apertures are expanded in the form of a series of Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind, and furthermore, parameter effect studies are performed to show the variation of the near- and far-zone Welds with the changing of the operating frequency, angular width, and number of the surrounded apertures.

Abstract:This paper presents detailed theoretical study on the theory of wave propagation along the coaxial waveguide filled with moving magnetized plasma (CWMMP). Making use of the Lorentz transformation and the constitutive transformation, Maxwell's equations lead to the coupled non-homogeneous differential equations which govern the wave propagation in CWMMP, and then analytical solutions have been obtained. The discussion about the eigenvalues of the waves and detailed studies on the fields are carried out. It finds that the fields of the CWMMP are composed of two parts with different eigenvalues. Numerical calculations show that because of Doppler shift effect, the eigenvalues of the modes in such a case is quite different from those of the CWMMP. And a detailed discussion on the dispersion characteristic of CWMMP is presented.

Abstract:Based on the theory of wave propagation along a waveguide filled with moving media, such as magnetized plasma and electron beam in a magnetic field, and making use of the transformations of electromagnetic field and wave vector in Minkovsky space, a rigorous theory of electron beam-wave interactions in a magnetized plasma waveguide is presented in the paper. It is very interesting to point out that some important new physics have been revealed by the theory given in the paper.

Abstract:In this Letter, we show that magnetized plasma with properly designed parameters at plasma frequency suffers a large magnetoimpedance change under a moderate external magnetic field. Such an interesting feature can be described as the analog of giant magnetoimpedance (GMI), which is confirmed by detailed calculation. GMI devices based on magnetized ε-near-zero plasma do not require microfabrication, and they are capable of working at tunable frequency, even in terahertz frequency range; more importantly, they can be dynamically controlled by environmental parameters such as temperature and pressure.

Abstract:The wave dispersion property in completely plasma-filled waveguide with definite magnetic field is analyzed. A revised dispersion equation is derived and calculated. A new division of wave modes is given. Compared with the old division, this new division is more suitable. Also, from the numerical calculation of the new dispersion equation, some errors in former results are corrected.

Abstract:A helix-type slow wave structure filled partially with plasma is immersed in a strong longitudinal magnetic field. By means of sheath model and linear field theory, the dispersion relation of the slow wave structure is derived. Hybrid modes which are formed at frequencies at which the phase velocities of electromagnetic and electrostatic waves coincide are found. The trend of change for disperstion characteristic, interaction impedance and gain is analyzed in detail in the cases of various densities of plasma and filling radius by numerical computation. Some useful results are obtained on the basis of the discussion.

Abstract:Further theoretical study and computer calculations on wave propagation along plasma waveguide in finite magnetic field are given in the paper. It gives accurate dispersion equations and shows that dispersion characters of wave propagation in partially plasma filled waveguide are quite different with that in completely plasma filled waveguide, and the dispersion curves of all waves can not pass across the critical frequency line: omega=omega(h)=(omega(ce)(2)+omega(pe)(2))(1/2). It has been found that some calculations given in published papers should be checked and corrected. It shows that the p(2)=0 curve in the p(1)(2), p(2)(2) diagram, for example, has only one line rather than two lines, as it was given in [5] and [8], and there is no so called anisotropic waves dispersion curve HE(1) as it was shown in [5]. A new kind of waves which is unknown in published papers has been found, the unusual dispersion characters of this kind of waves are discussed, and hence there are two kinds of waves, electromagnetic waves and waves containing quasi-static parts.

Abstract:Plasma filling can dramatically improve the performance of high power microwave devices. The characteristics of high-power microwave propagation along plasma filled waveguides in an axial magnetic field are analyzed in this paper, and the ponderomotive force effect of high power microwave is taken into consideration. Theoretical analysis and preliminary numerical calculations are performed. The analyses show that the ponderomotive effect would change the plasma density, distribution of microwave field intensity, and dispersion of wave propagation. The higher the microwave power, the stronger the ponderomotive effect. In different magnetic fields, the ponderomotive effect is different.

Abstract:We show that a metallic waveguide behaves as an electric (magnetic) plasma for transverse-electric (transverse-magnetic) polarized electromagnetic (EM) waves at frequencies below cut-off value. Inserting anisotropic resonance structures of either electric or magnetic type into a waveguide, we find extraordinary transmissions of EM waves with different polarizations through the waveguide at frequencies well below the waveguidepsilas cut-off value, following two different mechanisms. Microwave experiments, in excellent agreements with finite-different-time-domain simulations, are performed to successfully demonstrate all theoretical predictions. We then perform a systematic study based on tight-binding approximation to understand the underlying physics behind such unusual behaviors.

On the Theory of Electron Beam-Wave Interactions in a Magnetized Plasma Waveguids

Abstract:In a magnetized plasma waveguide, the TE mode and the TM mode are always coupled each other. This makes the electron beam-wave interactions much more complicated. Even though, theoretical and experimental studies have been carried on very actively during the past years. Paper presented a Basic Theoretical Formulations on the electron beam-wave interactions by means of the Applied field approximation, paper gave a linear theory based on the dielectric tensor for both the electron beam and the plasma, while in paper based on the Lorentz transformation and the Constitutive transformation in the Minkovsky space, a novel approach of the theory was worked out. An experimental study on a plasma filled Cherenkov radiation device has been carried out in [5]. A report of detailed comparison of the theories and the experiment is presented in this paper. The comparison shows that the novel theoretical approach gives correct and more accurate agreement with the results of the experiment.

Abstract:The theoretical study on the electron beam-wave interactions in a plasma waveguide immersed in a finite magnetic field is given in the article, in which both the plasma and the electron beam are considered as special media. Making use of the constitutive transformation and the Lorentz transformation in the four-dimensional space, the permittivity tensor of the stationary magnetized plasma, the permittivity tensor, the permeability tensor, and the chiral tensor of the electron beam in the rest (laboratory) frame are acquired. Therefore, two coupled wave equations for the magnetized plasma and electron beam have been obtained and the dispersion relations are then achieved by solving these coupled equations together with the boundary conditions including the surface current density due to the ripple of the plasma/beam. As an example of the applications of this approach, the beam-wave interactions in a practical plasma Cherenkov maser have been studied and the numerical calculations have been carried out in detail. It has been found that the present approach is more accurate and can provide clearer mode information for the electron beam-wave interactions in a magnetized plasma waveguide. This approach can be exploited in a number of electron beam-wave interaction systems including some kinds of free electron devices, plasma filled Cherenkov radiated free electron lasers and masers. Abstract:Propagation of whistler-mode waves in a magnetized plasma structure is investigated in the Keda linear magnetized plasma device.The magnetized plasma structure has its density peak in the center,and the background magnetic field is homogeneous along the axial direction.A whistler-mode wave with a frequency of 0.3 times of electron cyclotron frequency(fce)is launched into the plasma structure.The wave normal angle(WNA)is about 25°,and the wavefront exhibits a wedge structure.During propagation of the whistler wave,both the propagating angle and WNA slowly approach zero,and then the wave is converged toward the center of the structure.Therefore,the wave tends to be trapped in the plasma structure.The results present observational evidence of the propagation of a whistler-mode wave trapped in the enhanced-density structure in a laboratory plasma.This trapping effect is consistent with satellite observations in the inner magnetosphere.
Linear Waves in Magnetized Quantum Plasma

Abstract:Summary form only given. We have investigated the dispersion properties of some kinds of linear waves in uniform, cold quantum magnetoplasmas. Our analysis is based on the quantum magnetohydrodynamic equations. We derive new dispersion relations of the Langmuir wave and X wave by solving the plasma dielectric permeability tensor and find that the dispersion relations of the ordinary wave, the left-handed wave, and the right-handed wave show no quantum effect corrections. The results indicate that the quantum corrections have significant effects on the dispersion property of the Langmuir wave when the wave number k is big enough. The quantum effects also make the electrostatic oscillation into the Langmuir wave, which now has weak dispersion and whose group velocity increases with increasing frequency. The quantum corrections to the dispersion relation of the X wave have also been studied. Compared to the Langmuir wave, quantum effects have weaker corrections to the dispersion of the X wave and actually can be neglected in general conditions. For the Langmuir wave, our conclusion is that quantum effect corrections are significant when the electron quantum wavelength becomes comparable to the linear waves wavelengths. For simplicity, we consider only two types of wave vectors: the one that is parallel to the magnetic field and the one that is perpendicular to the magnetic field. Once the expression of the plasma dielectric permeability tensor is obtained, the dispersion relations of more complicated kinds of waves can be obtained with smaller efforts.

Abstract:A corrugated waveguide filled with an infinitely thin annular plasma is immersed in a strong longitudinal magnetic field. By means of fluid model and linear field theory，the dispersion relation of the electromagnetic wave propagation along the system is derived. The dispersion characteristics and beamwave interactions of lowfrequency plasma modes are analyzed in two cases of various densities of plasma by numerical computation. It is found that the dispersion relation with out electron beam satisfies exactly the Floquet theorem and the frequency of electromagnetic wave could not be confined by plasma oscillation frequency. The low-frequency plasma modes can even be coupled with TM modes as the plasma density i s increased.

Abstract:The effect of trapped electrons featuring vortex-like distribution on the nonlinear behavior of a three-dimensional ion-acoustic shock wave is investigated in a magnetized ionic-pair plasma. In the long-wave approximation, the dynamics of the shock wave is governed by the -dimensional Schamel-Zakharov-Kuznetsov-Burgers' equation due to the presence of trapped electrons and ion kinematic viscosity. By using the homogeneous balance principle and tanh function method, we obtain a novel exact shock wave solution of the equation. It is found for the first time that the trapped electrons can support a shock wave with only positive polarity.

Abstract:Analytical theory of electromagnetic field in a helical slow wave structure filled with plasma immersed in a finite axial magnetic field is presented in this paper. By means of helix sheath model and the boundary conditions, the dispersion equation of a magnetized plasma loaded helical slow wave structure is derived. Three particular cases ( without plasma, without axial magnetic field and in infinite axial magnetic field) are discussed and the corresponding dispersion equations are deduced. It is found that the simplified results are in accordance with published references.

Abstract:An alternative approach was successfully used to solve the coupled wave equations of wave propagation along plasma waveguide immersed in finite magnetic field, and an analytical theory, parallel to that given in [1], has been worked out. It has been proved that the results obtained in this paper are the same as those obtained by using the common approach. This proof shows that the solutions of electromagnetic waves from any approach are complete.
