Abstract:The anomalous transmitted intensity of X-rays due Co absorption known as Borrmann effect has been interpreted by using the absorption coefficient, especially the anomalous absorption coefficient of X-rays in a perfect crystal. mie report that this interpretation is not always true. When the Fourier coefficient of the real part of the X-ray polarizability is zero very near the absorption edge of an atom in a crystal, the enhanced Borrmann effect is observed with respect to the asymmetric factor in the asymmetric Lane case. This enhancement is caused Ly the amplitudes of X-ray electric displacement whose node is localized at the lattice plane, but not by the absorption coefficient, according to the analysis on the complex dispersion surface, the Poynting vector and the wave field in the crystal.
