Abstract:1.1. Temperature dependence of myocardial excitability was compared in ground squirrel and rat.2.2. In both animals, the strength-duration curve shifted up, and the rheobase and chronaxie increased markedly with decreasing temperature, especially below about 20 C.3.3. Temperature-dependent shift of rheobase and chronaxie and strength-duration curve in rats was almost double those in ground squirrels.4.4. Resting potential and action potential were also more cold-sensitive in rat.5.5. Our results show that myocardial excitability of a hibernator is adapted to resist hypothermia.
