Abstract:It is argued that in broken-symmetry theories the decoupling of heavy particles is incomplete. Some possible manifestations of this effect in neutral-current processes and the decay ${K}_{L}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\mu}$ are discussed. In the case of the neutral current, heavy-particle effects may be calculated accurately including strong-interaction corrections. A new method of making such calculations is explained and its application to the neutral-current process discussed in detail. The method is more efficient than previous ones and is especially useful in calculations involving several mass scales.

Abstract:Various processes have been yet considered to study the effect of Lorentz-violating terms and different limits have been determined for the magnitude of Lorentz violation coefficients. In this work, we study the effect of Lorentz-violating terms on B-meson production through pair annihilation ( ) in two distinct cases correspondent to axial and vectorial nonminimal couplings in QED and determine the corresponding Lorentz violation coefficients. In both cases, significant modifications are seen with respect to the usual relativistic result. Our analytical results for partonic differential cross section, i.e., , reveal an anisotropy which implies new constraints on the possible Lorentz-violating terms.

Impact of Lorentz violation on anomalous magnetic moments of charged leptons

Abstract:We address the question whether a violation of Lorentz symmetry can explain the tension between the measurement and the Standard-Model prediction of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon ($(g-2)_{\mu}$) and whether it can significantly impact the one of the electron ($(g-2)_{e}$). While anisotropic Lorentz-violating effects are, in general, expected to produce sidereal oscillations in observables, isotropic Lorentz violation in the charged-lepton sector could feed into $(g-2)_{e,\mu}$. However, we find that this type of Lorentz violation, parametrised via a dim-4 field operator of the Standard-Model Extension (SME), is already strongly constrained by the absence of vacuum Čerenkov radiation and photon decay. In particular, the observations of very-high-energetic astrophysical photons at LHAASO and of high-energetic electrons (muons) by the LHC (IceCube) place the most stringent two-sided bounds on the relevant SME coefficients $\overset{\circ}{c}{}^{(e)}$ ($\overset{\circ}{c}{}^{(\mu)}$). Therefore, any explanation of the tension in $(g-2)_{\mu}$ via isotropic Lorentz violation of the minimal spin-degenerate SME is excluded, and the possible size of its impact on $(g-2)_{e}$ is very limited.

Abstract:We study two superluminal neutrino scenarios where [Formula: see text] is a constant. To be consistent with the OPERA, Borexino and ICARUS experiments and with the SN1987a observations, we assume that δv ν on the Earth is about three-order larger than that on the interstellar scale. To explain the theoretical challenges from the Bremsstrahlung effects and pion decays, we consider the deformed Lorentz invariance, and show that the superluminal neutrino dispersion relations can be realized properly while the modifications to the dispersion relations of the other Standard Model particles can be negligible. In addition, we propose the deformed energy and momentum conservation laws for a generic physical process. In Scenario I the momentum conservation law is preserved while the energy conservation law is deformed. In Scenario II the energy conservation law is preserved while the momentum conservation law is deformed. We present the energy and momentum conservation laws in terms of neutrino momentum in Scenario I and in terms of neutrino energy in Scenario II. In such formats, the energy and momentum conservation laws are exactly the same as those in the traditional quantum field theory with Lorentz symmetry. Thus, all the above theoretical challenges can be automatically solved. We show explicitly that the Bremsstrahlung processes are forbidden and there is no problem for pion decays.

Abstract:It was recently suggested that possible small volations of Lorentz invariance could explain the existence of UHECR beyond the GZK cutoff and the observations of multi-TeV gamma-rays from Mkn 501. Our analysis of Lorentz-violating kinematics shows that in addition to the modified threshold conditions solving cosmic ray puzzles we should expect a strong suppression of electromagnetic processes like bremsstrahlung and pair creation. This leads to drastic effects in electron-photon cascade development in the atmosphere and in detectors.

Abstract:Modifications inspired by quantum gravity in the kinematics of special relativity can manifest in various ways, including anomalies in the time of flight of massless particles and the emergence of decay channels for otherwise stable particles. Typically, these effects are studied independently; however, it may be necessary to combine both to perform a consistent analysis. In this work, we study the interplay between time-of-flight anomalies and neutrino instability in the context of a flavor-independent high-energy Lorentz-invariance violation (LIV) in the neutrino sector. Ensuring compatibility between both types of effects imposes strong constraints on the existence of early neutrinos with energies exceeding a maximum value determined by the scale of new physics. Such constraints depend on the specific LIV scenario and should be integrated into searches for high-energy neutrinos from gamma-ray bursts exhibiting LIV time shifts.

Abstract:The phenomena of neutrino oscillations offer a great potential for probing new-physics beyond the Standard Model. Any additional effects on neutrino oscillations can help understand the nature of the non-standard effects. The violation of fundamental symmetries may appear as a probe for new-physics in various neutrino experiments. Lorentz symmetry is one such fundamental symmetry in nature and the breakdown of spacetime is a possible motivation for a departure from the standard Lorentz symmetry picture. The Lorentz invariance violation (LIV) is intrinsic in nature and its effects exist even in a vacuum. Neutrinos can be an intriguing probe for exploring such violations of Lorentz symmetry. The effect of violation of Lorentz invariance can be explored through its impact on the neutrino oscillation probabilities. The effect of LIV is treated as a perturbation to the standard neutrino Hamiltonian considering the Standard Model Extension (SME) framework. In this work, we have probed the effects of LIV on the measurement of neutrino oscillation parameters considering Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) as a case study. The inclusion of LIV affects the measurements of various neutrino oscillation parameters as it modifies the standard neutrino oscillation probabilities. We looked into the capability of DUNE in constraining the LIV parameters and then explored the impact of CPT-violating LIV terms on the mass-induced neutrino oscillation probabilities. We have also probed the impact of LIV parameters on the CP-measurement sensitivities at DUNE.

Abstract:I present a brief review on the motivation for the study on Lorentz violation and on some of our studies with phenomenological analysis of Lorentz violation effects. I also discuss three effective field theory frameworks for Lorentz violation: the Coleman-Glashow model, the standard model extension (SME), and the standard model supplement (SMS). The situation of the OPERA "anomaly" is also briefly reviewed, together with some discussion on the superluminality of neutrinos within the effective field theory frameworks.

Abstract:Long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments offer a unique laboratory to test the fundamental Lorentz symmetry, which is at the heart of both the standard model of particle and general relativity theory. The sidereal modulation in neutrino events will act as the smoking-gun experimental signature of Lorentz and CPT violation. In this study, we investigate the impact of the sidereal effect on standard neutrino oscillation measurements within the context of the NuMI Off-Axis νe Appearance Experiment ( NOνA ) experiment. Additionally, we assess the sensitivity of the NOνA experiment to detect Lorentz-violating interactions, taking into account the sidereal effect. Abstract:This paper specifically focuses on the choice of a temporal background field over a spatial one in the context of Lorentz symmetry breaking. By examining the implications of this choice, we aim to understand the effects of Lorentz violation in different scenarios, with an emphasis on the consequences of adopting a purely temporal background field. In the analysis of $\gamma$-pair production, a brief approach in QED is presented, exploring the production of a pair of photons. Furthermore, the study investigates Lorentz violation with vectorial nonminimal coupling, analyzing the modifications introduced by this coupling in the scattering amplitude at the vertex. Additionally, Lorentz violation with axial-like nonminimal coupling is explored, with a particular focus. The additional coupling introduces further modifications to the scattering amplitude, highlighting the intricate nature of Lorentz symmetry breaking in different scenarios.

Abstract:Depending on deformed canonical anticommutation relations, massless neutrino oscillation based on CPT /Lorentz invariance viol ation is discussed. It is found that the deformed canonical anti-commutation relations should satisfy the condition of new Moy al product and new non standard commutation relations. Furthermore, by comparing the neutrino experimental data and the above relations, we find that the orders of magnitude of noncommutative parameters or Lorentz invariant Violation parameters $mathi t{A}$ is not self-consistent. This means that the previous studies about Lorentz invariance violation in noncommutative field theory may not naturally explain massless neutrino oscillation. In other words, it should be impossible to explain neutrino os cillation by lorentz invariance violation. This conclusion is supported by the latest atmospheric neutrinos experimental resul ts from Super-Kamiokande Collaboration, which show that no evidence of Lorentz invariance violation on atmospheric neutrinos w as observed.

Abstract:Depending on deformed canonical anticommutation relations, massless neutrino oscillation based on Lorentz invariance violation in noncommutative field theory is discussed. It is found that the previous studies about massless neutrino oscillation within deformed canonical anticommutation relations should satisfy the condition of new Moyal product and new nonstandard commutation relations. Abstract:Processes of the form [Formula: see text] are studied via a technique that may be viewed as an adaptation of time-honored Dalitz plot analyses. Xi and Xj are new heavy states (with i,j = 1…n), which may be identical or distinct; and [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] are necessarily distinct Standard Model (SM) fermion pairs whose invariant masses can be measured. A Dalitz-like plot of said invariant masses, [Formula: see text]vs.[Formula: see text], exhibits a topology connected to the masses and specific decay chains of Xi and Xj. Aside from relatively minor details, observed patterns consist of a collection of box and wedge shapes. This collection is model-dependent: comparison of the observed pattern to the possibilities for a specific model yields information on which new particle pair combinations are actually being produced, information beyond that extractable from conventional one-dimensional invariant mass distributions. The technique is illustrated via application to the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) process [Formula: see text]. Here the heavy states are neutralinos [Formula: see text] (i = 2,3,4) — note [Formula: see text] is excluded — which are produced in gluino/squark [Formula: see text] cascade decay chains. Even with fairly modest expectations for the LHC performance during the first few years, this method still provides substantial insight into the neutralino mass spectrum and couplings if gluino/squark masses are relatively low (≃ 400 GeV).
Nonminimal Lorentz Invariance Violation in Light of the Muon Anomalous Magnetic Moment and Long-Baseline Neutrino Oscillation Data

Abstract:In light of the increasing hints of new physics at the muon $g-2$ and neutrino oscillation experiments, we consider the recently observed tension in the long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments as a potential indication of Lorentz invariance violation. For this purpose, the latest data from T2K and NO$\nu$A is analysed in presence of non-minimal Lorentz invariance violation. Indeed, we find that isotropic violation in dimensions $D =$ 4, 5 and 6 can alleviate the tension in neutrino oscillation data by 0.4$-$2.4$\sigma$ CL significance, with the isotropic coefficient $\gamma^{(5)}_{\tau \tau} =$ 3.58$\times$10$^{-32}$GeV$^{-1}$ yielding the best fit. At the same time, the anomalous muon $g-2$ result can be reproduced with an additional non-isotropic violation of $d^{zt} =$ -1.7$\times$10$^{-25}$. The analysis highlights the possibility of simultaneous relaxation of experimental tensions with Lorentz invariance violation of mixed nature.

Abstract:We elaborate on the application of on shell and unitarity-based methods for evaluating renormalization group coefficients, and generalize this framework to account for the mixing of operators with different dimensions and leading mass effects. We derive a master formula for anomalous dimensions stemming from the general structure of operator mixings, up to two-loop order, and show how the Higgs low-energy theorem can be exploited to include leading mass effects. A few applications on the renormalization properties of popular effective field theories showcase the strength of the proposed approach, which drastically reduces the complexity of standard loop calculations. Abstract:At leading order in weak and electromagnetic couplings, cross sections for (anti)neutrino-nucleon elastic scattering are determined by four nucleon form factors that depend on the momentum transfer $Q^2$. Including radiative corrections in the Standard Model and potential new physics contributions beyond the Standard Model, eight invariant amplitudes are possible, depending on both $Q^2$ and the (anti)neutrino energy $E_\nu$. We review the definition of these amplitudes and use them to compute both unpolarized and polarized observables including radiative corrections. We show that unpolarized accelerator neutrino cross-section measurements can probe new physics parameter space within the constraints inferred from precision beta decay measurements.

Abstract:From a cosmological perspective, scalar fields are well-motivated dark matter and dark energy candidates. Several possibilities of neutrino couplings with a time-varying cosmic field have been investigated in the literature. In this work, we present a framework in which violations of Lorentz invariance (LIV) and $CPT$ symmetry in the neutrino sector could arise from an interaction among neutrinos with a time-varying scalar field. Furthermore, some cosmological and phenomenological aspects and constraints concerning this type of interaction are discussed. Potential violations of Lorentz and $CPT$ symmetries at present and future neutrino oscillation experiments such as IceCube and KM3NeT can probe this scenario.
