Abstract:Successful national image building can improve the country’s positive influence in the international public opinion environment.Modern information technology and media changes have prompted the international media environment to take great changes.Mass communication has changed from one way to two way,and to a compound mode of communication;foreign audiences' understanding of the news and information have changed profoundly,mainly from getting information passively to participating actively in making and discovering valuable information,organizing activities and creating public opinion,as well as personally engaging themselves in the discussions,in order to influence public affairs.Everyone’s participation in the modern media environment has created unprecedented conditions for cross-cultural communication.This will prompt us to discuss in greater depth the diverse needs of the audience at home and abroad and better respect the actual differences between Chinese and foreign news systems.

Abstract:Abstract The development of digital technology encourages culture to spread more inclusively and diversely around the world. On this basis, this article aims to reveal the changing trend and the dynamic mechanism behind Chinese cultural communication by studying the status quo of overseas communication in the media, education, and arts and the influence of Chinese culture in different regions. The research shows that the existence of cultural hegemony and unilateralism in Western countries and the incomplete of China's communication system have restricted the global communication of Chinese culture. Despite this, globalization and multi-polarization provide new external opportunities for Chinese cultural global communication. Also, the development of China's comprehensive strength and technology have laid the material foundation and broadened the channels for cultural communication. In the future, more revolutions in terms of cultural communication concepts, subjects, and matrices should be conducted to help Chinese culture be more widely recognized and accepted worldwide.

Abstract:The emergence of new information and communication technologies and new social communication practices has called for the transformation of communication studies.Communication researchers have been asking a number of questions:Can the new information and communication technologies lead to a paradigm shift in communication theories?Are classic communication theories still applicable to the new media environment?What are the new research questions that emerge in the new media age?What are the interactions between the new information and communication technologies and new media research?How do the new media studies transform the current communication research?How should Chinese new media research be developed under the background of globalization and unique context of Chinese society and culture ? Based on the review of previous research,this study analyzes three approaches to new media studies,namely social scientific,critical,and interpretive paradigms,and reveals three findings.First,it is the changing communication activities and practices in which people engage that lead to the changing views of communication,such as a shift from″media-audience″study to ″new media-user″study.Moreover,the development of new media industry not only generates new research objects and theories,but offers new perspectives and methods to test classic theories.Second,in examining the relationship between new media technologies and social change,this study concludes that technological determinism is usually a dominant paradigm in the early phase of new media technologies.As these new technologies diffuse,researchers will turn to a social shaping perspective that focuses on how new media technologies are shaped by various social forces on the one hand,and are shaping social life in socio-historical contexts on the other.Third,the emergence of new media events has become a unique and influential communication phenomenon that attracts the attention of a large number of Chinese communication researchers.Nevertheless,most of these studies are case studies and are limited to the application of western theories to the Chinese society,thus failing to provide any insight into the communication mechanism in the Chinese new media environment.Against such a backdrop,this study suggests apossible direction for Chinese scholars to facilitate a″cultural shift″of new media research,to adopt the″thick description″method of cultural sociology to reveal the specific implications of new media events,and to uncover the socio-psychological consequences of these events and their associated social factors in the Chinese context.The goal is to highlight the interplay of different social forces in new media studies in transitional China.Meanwhile,scholars should take advantage of new media technologies to develop new research methods and procedures,to explore unique research questions in the Chinese social and cultural context,and to generate new theories that can facilitate the development of communication research.

Abstract:Translation studies conducted since China’s reform and opening up has played a pivotal role in the establishment of translation as a discipline in this country.Whether in introducing insightful theoretical perspectives on the translational practice,laying a conceptual foundation for the discipline,promoting translation-related pedagogy, enriching the teaching of foreign languages,fostering a historical understanding of the cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries,or enhancing China’s soft power,remarkable achievements have been made by Chinese translation scholars.Having gained its disciplinary status and succeeded in refuting popularly held misassumptions such as"translation is not amenable to theory"or"theories of translation are useless,"however,how translation studies should further develop itself in China poses a formidable challenge to its practitioners.This paper takes up the challenge by reflecting on some of the burning issues of the moment,including those over the exclusive adoption of the cultural approach to the study of translation,the dearth of translation-specific theoretical sources,and the subordination of translation to some better established disciplines.

Abstract:Under the background of new media, the advantages of self-media in cultural communication have become more and more obvious, and the way of communication of cultures of different countries has changed a lot. How to better realize cross-cultural communication in the new media era has attracted much attention. Nowadays, foreigners in China are playing their own role in spreading Chinese culture with their unique perspectives and methods. This paper takes Japanese self-media works in China as an example, analyzes the contents of their China-related documentaries, discusses the characteristics and advantages of such works in cross-cultural communication, and looks forward to how better to realize cross-cultural communication through self-media in the future, so as to promote the cultural exchange between countries and the understanding and recognition of foreign cultures.

Abstract:In the age of globalization along with more frequent cross-cultural interactions, the importance of translation cannot be understated. Translation plays a vital role in facilitating intercultural communication between different countries and cultures. Through translation, people can understand and learn the culture, history, traditions and customs of other countries. Therefore, this paper explores the influence of Chinese and English cultural customs and translation through the study of literature and case studies. It is found that cultural practices have a great impact on language shaping and expression, and there are many difficulties in translating culture-specific terms and cultural customs. In order to better realize the communication and diffusion of cultures and translate effectively, translators need to be sensitive to cultural differences and thoroughly research the similarities and differences among cultures.

Abstract:In this article, the author presents a discussion of what he calls sinological translation, an important area of cultural exchange between China and the West, with a focus on the recent translation of Chinese culture into English. While arguing that in the international phase of sinological translation when globalisation characterises most cultural scenes no translator can maintain one singular cultural identity, he offers to examine the differences in translation among different translators, both native and nonnative speakers of English, from a comparative cultural perspective. As a conclusion, he cites Hall's theory of communication to support his argument that the potential readers the translator conjures up during the process of translation and his negotiation with them plays an important role in his decision making in the translation and in the formation of the style of the translated text.

Abstract:The international spread of national image is not only information transmission and transformation of symbols,but also cross-cultural exchange and promotion of mind sharing.As to domestic cultural differences of international audiences we must not only attach importance to language and code translation of China's image in the international spread,but also need to emphasize the dialogue of values and communication of ideas.In this way,we can really calmly respond to new public opinion environment and the central role which "medium" has in the contemporary society.At present,the English translations of China's core values are related to Chinese and western understanding of diversity and unity,the differences and consensus,and the differences of relationship between thought and action,all of which may form a barrier to the understanding of the differences of concept and require a better translation and more explanation.

Abstract:Since the reform and opening up, China’s comprehensive national strength and international status have been continuously enhanced. Compared with its economic achievements, however, China has a disproportionate discourse power in international communities. Consequently, it becomes a top priority for the country to further strengthen its international communication and elaborately construct an external discourse system to meet the national strategy of telling China’s stories well and making China's voice heard. As an important medium of communication, translation studies should be integrated with intercultural communication studies in response to the urgent issue: How to effectively translate China and enhance its external discourse power in the world. From an interdisciplinary perspective, this article proposed that the boundaries of translation studies should be expanded to integrate correlated research domains including external discourse studies, intercultural communication studies, and national translation studies for the sake of exploring effective paths for the promotion of Chinese culture abroad.

Abstract:Key to the local audience's conceptions of the global spectacle, the marketized regional press in China has been increasingly confronted with a complex world to cover as China finds itself integrating steadily into the global marketplace and rising as a formidable power in the post-WTO era. Using the data collected from five Chinese regional newspapers in 1989 and 2009, this study indicates that the consequences of spillover in China's growing integration with the global system and the ever-increasing media marketization have been carried into the domain of international news, particularly in terms of a more neutral journalistic perspective and a widened range of vision at the local level. The results also show that the regionalization of international news reporting is still contained within the orbit of the party-state. The comparison over a 20-year time span suggests that China's integration into the world capitalism system has opened up a larger global landscape for the local press, but not necessarily a wider latitude to negotiate the terrain.

Abstract:Driven by global development strategies, both domestic and foreign enterprises tend to utilize international brand advertisements to enhance their visibility and expand their global businesses. Since its accession to the WTO, China has experienced rapid development. Therefore, for Chinese enterprises, the appropriate translation of their product advertisements directly impacts commodity sales and consumer’s brand awareness. Building upon intercultural communication theory, this thesis will further analyze the challenges in intercultural communication as perceived by professional translators and explore their specific solutions through a case study. Abstract:With the acceleration of globalization, the internationalization of film and television works has become a powerful tool to enhance Chinese culture’s international influence. As an important carrier for telling Chinese stories, subtitle translation of Chinese cultural documentaries is very favorable to cultural dissemination. The documentary “China Bouquet” shows the colorful history, folk customs, and humanities of China and is widely disseminated on overseas media platforms. Based on eco-translatology, this paper interprets the subtitle translation skills and international communication effects of it. It finds that translators adapt to translation ecological elements in linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions to enhance the acceptance of overseas audience. With domestication as the main strategy and foreignization as the auxiliary strategy, translators adopt free translation, conversion, transliteration, omission etc. to demonstrate the charm of Chinese culture and promote effective cultural communication.

Abstract:As China’s comprehensive national power continues to grow and its global influence expands, China’s status in the international arena is receiving increasing attention, and the enhancement of its international status requires an international discourse that is compatible with it. This research focuses on the analysis of the translation of Chinese political discourse represented by Report on the Work of the Government (RWG), and selected corpus is the Chinese and English versions of 2011&2022 Report on the Work of the Government. The translation of RWG not only contains a large amount of ideological content, but also requires the realization of the communication effect in the context of the target language. At the same time, the RWG requires a high degree of loyalty to the original text, but also pays attention to the acceptance and reaction of readers. Traditional domestication strategies cannot adapt to the dialectical and dynamic relationship between discourse and social practice, so this study adopts the interdisciplinary perspective of Critical Discourse Analysis to analyze the corpus.
