Association of interferon-γ and interleukin-10, 5, 4, 2 with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship of serum interferon-g and interleukin-10,5,4,2 with the development and progression of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods COPD patients and healthy controls were divided into smoking COPD group(n=66),non-smoking COPD group(n= 42),and healthy control group(n=43).Smoking COPD group was further divided into severe COPD group (n=23)and slight-to-moderate COPD group(n=43).The concentrations of cytokines were analyzed by human T helper cell (Th)1/Th2 cytokine kit.Results The serum concentrations of interferon-γand interleukin-10,5, 4,2 in the COPD group were significantly higher than those of smokers and healthy controls(all P<0.01),and those of the severe COPD group were significantly higher than those of the slight-to moderate COPD group(all P<0.05).Conclusion The elevation of interferon-γand interleukin-10,5,4,2 is associated with the development and severity of COPD.
