Abstract:This paper elaborates the development of spatial structure in our country.Because the forms and types are colorful and incessantly innovating,it is necessary to divide spatial structure by component elements.After the 21th century,the development of our nation’s spatial structure comes into a new period that the application range and fields for spatial structure extend continuously.Besides the large-span public buildings such as gymnasiums and airports,there are extensive and innovative applications including large-scale railway stations,stations awning without column,bridges and high-rise buildings for spatial structure.About the international cooperation,it is suggested to have an open mind and optimistic view towards the fact that that architecture scheme for our nation’s spatial structures are frequently led by foreign companies.China is already a country with a great deal of the top of the world spatial structures,thus it is our responsibility to strive to create even better and advanced spatial structures.Some issues which we should pay more attention are pointed out.

Abstract:As the perfection of high speed railway network, the functional value of city of high speed rail station has become the hot spot of domestic urban construction. However, there is lack of a clear and rational planning of the high speed railway district that is critical for the future endeavor. Based on the theoretical and practical analysis of development of Hong Kong MTR, this paper summarizes some experience and puts forward an idea of constructing convention and exhibition center integrated into high speed rail station which will reduce the time cost and relieve traffic pressure in the city, to provide references for the future development of the high speed rail station in the direction of comprehensive and multifunctional.

Tunnelling and Underground Space Technology

Abstract:Currently, urban underground space in most mountainous cities in Southwest China has developed slowly. Underground space planning in mountainous cities is often influenced by many factors, such as complex topography, geological conditions and the surrounding environment, so this has severely restricted the expansion of above-ground and underground space. The underground space available is quite compact in mountainous cities and it is common to cross with the foundations of the ground buildings. Therefore, two crucial facts need to be considered when the planning of the center areas in a mountainous city is prepared, including 1) increasing potential demand for underground space and 2) reducing the requisition and demolition of ground buildings. This paper presents an innovative solution for layout planning and implementation of Baoshan South Road Metro Station on Guiyang Rail Transit Line 2 in Southwest China. A new type of “End-mounted & intensive” subway station is designed, which effectively achieves the advantages such as a compact and safe structure, high space utilisation, less expropriation and demolition, and low cost. This innovative scenario improves the carrying capacity of surface environment and it also increases the comprehensive utilisation of underground space in mountainous urban areas. Besides, it has important environmental demonstration significance and economic benefits, promoting the rapid development of rail transit construction in mountainous urban areas.

Abstract:This paper provides a brief introduction to the development trend of high-speed railway in the world.In China,an age of high-speed railway is coming and Zhengzhou is faced with new opportunities and new challenges.According to the course of development in Zhengzhou,this essay summarizes the relationship between the evolution of the space layout and the railway.Then it analyses the influences of the high-speed railway on Zhengzhou and the surrounding areas.Finally,it gives some advices on the construction and development strategy of new Zhengzhou station that should pay attention to the construction of transfer systems,the exploitation of mixed function and the image of city to enhance the city's attraction.

Abstract:China has become the country with the most highspeed railway facilities, and Chinese residents are enjoying the convenience brought by high-speed railway. Nevertheless, the distribution of passenger flow has become a bottleneck to improve the service level of high-speed railway stations. Most of the existing hub connection schemes rely on the experience of designers, and a large number of evaluation methods focus on the connection capacity, service level and other aspects. So, the passenger transfer efficiency cannot be guaranteed. Based on this, the paper analyzes the connection facilities, passenger transfer mode and passenger walking characteristics in highspeed railway passenger transport hub. By using VISSIM and SketchUp, this paper establishes the connection analysis model of high-speed railway passenger transport hub, and the passenger transfer efficiency is evaluated from the internal and external connection. Then, taking Ningbo Station as an example, the feasibility, accuracy and reliability of connecting simulation technology of high-speed railway passenger hub based on VISSIM is verified. The research results can provide technical support for the layout design and optimization of high-speed railway passenger transport hub, and also provide an idea for BIM Technology in the analysis of transport hub connection process.

Abstract:The rapid growth of high-speed railways has led to the development of underground spaces surrounding high-speed railway stations (USSHRSs). The evolution of USSHRS has enhanced the space utilization efficiency. As USSHRSs expand, the layout of the underground connectivity network becomes increasingly intricate. Additionally, pedestrian behavior in USSHRSs transitions from mere passing to longer stays, and its spatial configuration becomes more difficult to evaluate. To date, studies have mostly focused on the structural analysis or inner underground space relationship of USSHRSs. A research gap exists in the field of USSHRS spatial configuration from the perspective of urban development. To fill this research gap, this study focused on the spatial configuration of the USSHRS from the perspective of urban morphology and established a quantitative analysis method for USSHRSs at both global and local levels. At the global level, we devised a method for measuring the USSHRS spatial configuration using pedestrian composite accessibility based on a complex network. At the local level, we used space syntax to study the inner spatial configuration problems of USSHRSs. Finally, we used the Shanghai Hongqiao Station (Shanghai, China) as a case study. The results revealed that the spatial configuration optimization of the USSHRS must improve the connectivity efficiency of the USSHRS, and the corresponding functional layout should also be optimized towards a centralized layout. This study aims to provide decision-making support for the planning and layout of complicated USSHRS and to highlight the role of USSHRS in urban sustainable development.

Abstract:As the social economy and urbanization develop rapidly, a new high-speed railway city construction is undergoing. Urban designing theories that lack of research and practice leads to immature designs of high-speed railway stations. Based on urban design cases currently undertaken and theories and practices from home and abroad, this thesis analyzes the specialty of urban design of the high-speed railway stations. This thesis points out the significance to propose a scientific and reasonable strategy of developing areas and producing energy, and points out the significance of pattern of land-using on this sort of design. In terms of the specialty of the development and design of high-speed railway stations, this thesis offers some valuable insights into future research and practice.

Research on spatial planning evaluation of Beijing Shanghai high speed railway station based on node-place model

Abstract:The construction of high-speed rails is regarded as a major opportunity for urban development by local governments in China, so various grand development plans are actively formulated to promote urban economic development. In this paper, the development of station space is evaluated empirically based on the calculated node and place values of 24 high-speed rail stations along the Beijing-Shanghai line and Bertolini’s “node-place” model. The results show that: (1) The 24 stations along the Beijing-Shanghai line have different development scale, which mostly act as sub-centers of the city, where the real estate industry, modern service industry and cultural industry are dominated in station space planning. Moreover, local governments are optimistic about the accelerant effect of high-speed rail stations whose functional configuration along the line is relatively repeated, because all 24 stations are basically set with business centers. (2) The size of cities along the Beijing-Shanghai line is related to the node value, the higher the urban function level, the greater the node value, with great differences among cities. The node value of big cities is far higher than that of small and medium-sized cities, hence there are node-oriented station areas in big cities and place-oriented ones in middle-sized and small cities. However, there is no direct relationship between the urban function level of stations along the line and the value of urban places. In some small and medium-sized cities, the planning and development intensity and scale of station areas even exceed that of big cities. (3) Only Wuxi station and Nanjing station are in a balanced development state in the space planning of railway stations along the Beijing-Shanghai line. Therefore, the risk of long-term development of station area should be considered in the planning, and reasonable measures should be formulated to promote the sustainable development of station area, so as to form the overall development of Station City.

Abstract:With the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) model developing in urban construction in China, the contradiction between limited space resources outside subway stations and the enormous demands of stakeholders has become more prominent. The present research on urban furniture mainly focused on the underground space system and the development of surrounding industries. Still, there was a lack of in-depth discussion on the external space of subway stations. This research aims to explore the spatio-temporal differences of activities in the external space of the subway station and put forward the corresponding optimising strategies of urban furniture. The external space of Wushan station in Metro Line 3 in Guangzhou was selected as the research area to investigate and analyse human activities and their demands through the PSPL Survey. It was found that there were significant peaks of human flow on weekdays and weekends separately. On weekdays, the peak was mainly concentrated in the morning and evening. At the same time, that was slightly behind, concentrated primarily on the weekend meal times and apparent differences in the routes of human flow, resulting in different stakeholders having demanded seats. Therefore, this paper proposed foldable and modular design strategies. It could provide a reference for optimising public facilities in the same type of space and a research basis for urban space renewal and rail traffic optimisation.

Abstract:Abstract Physical space of large high-speed rail (HSR) hub is the foundation of passenger aggregation, distribution and transfer. The spatial layout method of its function areas is the research hotspot in the field of transportation hub design. Aiming at the goal of minimizing the pedestrian walking distance, a spatial layout method for function area based on pedestrian flow of high-speed rail hub has come up. According to the characteristics of passenger activity and movement, the hub space is divided into different function areas macroscopically. Combined with case analysis, the general steps of the spatial layout method of high-speed rail hub and effectiveness of this method are illustrated.

Abstract:As a new type of large-scale public building, high-speed railway stations are developing fast throughout China. In general, most of the newly built stations have large, tall and open space like waiting hall and ticketing lobby, with large area of glass curtain wall or skylight. Such features may contribute to higher energy demand of the stations, especially for HVAC system. In this paper, a medium-size high speed railway station in South China is taken as an example to study the HVAC load characteristics for such buildings. Based on measured data and relevant information, and with the help of simulation tool DeST, cooling and heating load of the station are calculated and broken down into several major parts, including fresh air load, solar radiation, internal heat and building envelop. Main features are identified for the whole station and its major spaces, and then corresponding energy saving approaches are proposed.

Abstract:In this paper, we classify the passenger station, and then analyze the influence factors of scale parameter, summarize the relationship between the scale parameter and station building area through a great amount of stations. We put forward the application method of scale parameter in the prediction of station scale, finally propose the prediction method for different types of stations. We hope it will play a guiding role in the construction of the station.

Abstract:The design of railway stations impacts transportation efficiency and production. Therefore, meeting the needs of the new era for station design is a concern for the railway industry. This paper proposes a new design method for intercity/urban railway stations to address the requirements of the CTCS2+ATO (China Train Control System Level 2 + Automatic Train Operation) train control system for public transportation operations, aiming to shorten yard length and improve transportation efficiency. First, we compare design principles of arrival/departure lines at home and abroad. Second, we analyze factors affecting the effective length of passenger dedicated line stations. Third, we analyze the technical conditions for the implementation of the CTCS2+ATO system, optimize various influencing parameters according to the design specifications while ensuring the safe operation of trains. Fourth, we establish a CTCS2+ATO system arrival and departure line effective length model under selected vehicle parameters and line parameters conditions, and provide examples, illustrations and explanations of the effective length. Finally, we verify the proposed station design scheme through the intercity/urban railway CTCS2+ATO system laboratory test platform. The experimental results show that under the selected parameters, the train is controlled by ATO, and after entering the station, it stops steadily and accurately without passing the outbound signal. This is consistent with the theory and can improve the transportation efficiency of railway passenger dedicated lines while shortening the platform distances. The research results can be used to guide the design of intercity/urban railway stations.

Abstract:High-speed railway (HSR) station areas are expected to benefit urban environments, not simply as transportation or economic hubs but also as urban places contributing to living quality. However, the relationship between HSR and place quality has not received systematic attention, despite the evolution of urban planning paradigms toward a clearer focus on quality of life. We have reviewed 44 academic articles written between 1996 and 2019 and analyzed concepts of place quality spanning the disciplines of urban design, urban planning, and urban economics. We identified three dimensions commonly associated with quality of place: a spatial dimension associated with aesthetic qualities of urban spaces; a socio-cultural dimension associated with experienced “sense of place”; and an economic dimension associated with the agglomeration of economic activities. Then we worked out these three dimensions in the context of HSR station areas and attributed features accordingly. We concluded that the economic dimension far outweighs the others in academic debates, with dominant theories being primarily concerned with land use, accessibility, and economic performance. Studies from the urban design field have tackled the spatial elements of place quality and showed a strong correlation with economic dimension. However, the literature remains insufficiently developed when it comes to addressing user experience and “sense of place.”
