Abstract:In constructed wetlands, organic compounds, nitrogen, phosphorus and other contaminants are removed through concurrent actions among plants, microorganisms and substratum.Organic pollutants are mostly removed by aerobic and anaerobic degradation.Nitrogen is mainly remoredby plants uptake, substratum adsorption, nitrification and denitrification. And phosphorus removal was achieved through substratum adsorption, plants uptake and microbial assimilation.Different pollutants have different removal mechanisms,as well as different factors that affect the removal processes.Dissolved oxygen affects organic compounds removal rate.Nitrogen removal is strongly related to plants, dissolved oxygen level, hydraulic retention time and pollutants loading et al.Phosphorus removal mostly depended on physical and chemical properties of substratum and plants. At present, constructed wetlands are mostly used for treatment of industrial wastewater, sewage and agricultural non-point pollution etc.,but it is more prone to be applied in treatment of eutrophic water and water resource protection both at home and abroad.
