Study on Female Suicide Mortality in China

Abstract:Objective To understand the trend of female suicide mortality from 1990 to 2001 in China and analyse age-groups female suicide mortality in different districts,and provide information for the intervention of suicide behavior.Methods Analyse the data of female suicide mortality from China and other forty-two countries with descriptive statistic method.Results Female suicide mortality increase by age growing and two peaks of suicide mortality have been showed in 25～34 age group and above 65 year old in middle or small city and developed,moderate developed and undeveloped rural areas.In female age 25～34,suicide mortality of undeveloped rural areas was highest among all districts in 2001 that was 85.36/100000.Suicide mortality of female age over 75 is highest among all age groups that were 69.15～477.95/100000.Suicide mortality of rural areas of China was rank 1 in comparison with forty-two nation's.From 1990 to 2001 general mortality of female suicide descended in urban areas and developed,moderate develop rural areas,but increased in undeveloped rural areas.Conclusion Female suicide mortality was higher in rural areas.Female persons age 25～34 and over 65 should be the focus of suicide prevention in China.
