Effects of nurse-patient communication skills training for junior nurses

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effects of the nurse-patient communication skills training based on Calgary-Cambridge Guide for junior nurses.Methods Seventy junior nurses were randomly divided into experimental group and control group.The nurses in the experimental group attended nurse-patient communication skills training,while those in the control group only received the learning materials.The Ability of Nurse-patient Communication Inventory,Adapted version of Calgary-Cambridge Observation Guides Questionnaire were administered before and after the training.Results After the training,the nurses' communication ability,interviewing skills in the experimental group were all significantly higher than those of control group(P<0.01).Conclusion The nurse-patient communication skills training based on Calgary-Cambridge Guide can improve nurses' communication ability and interviewing skills.
