The Role of Livelihood Capital in Migrant Returnees' Self- Employment

Abstract:Based on a sustainable livelihood framework,data from a 2009 survey of the impact of financial crisis on rural migrants households′ livelihood is used to reveal the effects of livelihood capital on migrant returnees′ self-employment.Results show that,in human capital,those with education of junior high school and those who have received job training during their work in cites are more likely to be self-employed;in social capital,those whose family members are leaders in their villages or towns are more likely to be self-employed;in physical capital,those whose families have more productive equipment are more likely to be self-employed;in financial capital,those who have borrowed money from their relatives or friends are more likely to be self-employed.In addition,some policy implications for the above conclusions are also discussed.
