Abstract:Benzo[a]pyrene[B[a]P] is one kind of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons [PAHs] that can cause cancer, and listed in the superior pollutant by EPA USA. B[a]P, as a persistence organic pollutant in environment, the main focus has been on its degradation by microorganisms. This paper studied the remediation of B[a]P contaminated soil by ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum L.). The results showed that the extractable concentration of B[a]P in soil was reduced with time extending, ryegrass enhanced the reduce of extractable B[a]P and increased the degradation rate of B[a]P in soil. Under treatments of 1, 10 and 50 mg·kg-1 B[a]P, the degradation rates of B[a]P with ryegrass were 90.3%, 87.5% and 78.6% , while, which were 79.3%, 66.4% and 55.6%, without ryegrass, respectively. Ryegrass enhanced the polyphenol oxidase and dehydrogenase activities, and increased the microbiological biomass C, so improved the degradation rate of B[a]P. The shoot of ryegrass could accumulate trace of B[a]P, but extracting B[a]P by plant was not main mechanism for remediation of B[a]P contaminated soil. Soil itself possessed the potential to remediate B[a]P contaminated soil, and ryegrass planting could strengthen the remediation potential for B[a]P contaminated soil.
