The resulting lattice matrix elements are nonperturbatively renormalized in a recently proposed hybrid scheme. An extrapolation to the continuum and infinite momentum limit is carried out. We find that, while the longitudinal distribution amplitudes tend to be close to the asymptotic form, the transverse ones deviate rather significantly from the asymptotic form. Our final results provide crucial ab initio theory inputs for analyzing pertinent exclusive processes.

Abstract:We use the method of QCD sum rules in the presence of an external point field to investigate isospin symmetry breakings in pion-nucleon couplings. Possible manifestations of such isospin symmetry breakings are examined in the context of low-energy nucleon-nucleon scattering. We discuss numerical results in relation to both the existing data and other theoretical predictions.

Abstract:We calculate the valence quark distribution functions of the π meson using the non-relativistic chiral constituent quark model. The π wave function is obtained by solving the two-body Schrödinger equation within the framework of constituent quark model. We transform the π wave function from the rest frame to the light cone or infinite momentum frame based on the Lorentz boost. The valence quark distributions at the initial evolution scale are obtained. The QCD evolution are given with the DGLAP equations with parton-parton recombination corrections. With tuning the valence up (down) quark mass to 70 MeV, the calculated valence up quark distributions at Q2=20 GeV 2 are in good agreement with the E615 experimental data. The structure functions F2π(x,Q2) of pion are also calculated which consist with the H1 experimental data. The proposed mechanisms here could be also used to study other hadrons.

Abstract:The leading-twist distribution amplitude for the longitudinal rho-meson was studied using QCD Sum Rules with nonlocal condensates and a spectral density which includes next-to-leading order radiative corrections. The obtained profile is compared with results from standard QCD sum rules, lattice QCD, holographic QCD, a light-front quark model, and the instanton liquid model. Preliminary estimates for the first two moments of the transverse ρ-meson distribution amplitude are also given.

Abstract:Analyses of the pion valence-quark distribution function (DF), , which explicitly incorporate the behaviour of the pion wave function prescribed by quantum chromodynamics (QCD), predict , $$\beta (\zeta \gtrsim m_p)>2$$ , where $$m_p$$ is the proton mass. Nevertheless, more than forty years after the first experiment to collect data suitable for extracting the $$x\simeq 1$$ behaviour of , the empirical status remains uncertain because some methods used to fit existing data return a result for that violates this constraint. Such disagreement entails one of the following conclusions: the analysis concerned is incomplete; not all data being considered are a true expression of qualities intrinsic to the pion; or QCD, as it is currently understood, is not the theory of strong interactions. New, precise data are necessary before a final conclusion is possible. In developing these positions, we exploit a single proposition, viz. there is an effective charge which defines an evolution scheme for parton DFs that is all-orders exact. This proposition has numerous corollaries, which can be used to test the character of any DF, whether fitted or calculated.

Abstract:We present a state-of-the-art lattice QCD calculation of the pion and kaon light-cone distribution amplitudes (DAs) using large-momentum effective theory. The calculation is done at three lattice spacings a≈{0.06,0.09,0.12} fm and physical pion and kaon masses, with the meson momenta Pz={1.29,1.72,2.15} GeV . The result is nonperturbatively renormalized in a recently proposed hybrid scheme with self-renormalization, and extrapolated reliably to the continuum as well as the infinite momentum limit. Abstract:Algebraic Ansatze for the Poincare-covariant Bethe-Salpeter wave functions of the pion and kaon arc used to calculate their light-front wave functions, parton distribution amplitudes, parton quasidistribution amplitudes, valence parton distribution functions, and parton quasidistribution functions (PqDFs). The light-front wave functions arc broad, concave functions, and the scale of flavor-symmetry violation in the kaon is roughly 15%, being set by the ratio of emergent masses in the s- and u-quark sectors. Parton quasidistribution amplitudes computed with longitudinal momentum P-z = 1.75 GeV provide a semiquantitatively accurate representation of the objective parton distribution amplitude, but even with P-z = 3 GeV, they cannot provide information about this amplitude's end point behavior. On the valence-quark domain, similar outcomes characterize PqDFs. In this connection, however, the ratio of kaon-to-pion u-quark PqDFs is found to provide a good approximation to the true parton distribution function ratio on 0.4 less than or similar to x less than or similar to 0.8, suggesting that with existing resources computations of ratios of parton quasidistributions can yield results that support empirical comparison.

Abstract:The behavior of the meson distribution amplitude is discussed through a phenomenological analysis of some exclusive processes in QCD. It is found that the pionic distribution amplitude at moderate energies is much broader than its asymptotic form and the broad distribution amplitude has to suppress the endpoint contribution to the process in order that the perturbative QCD contribution is dominant. In addition, a possible meson distribution amplitude, which is a generalization of the harmonic oscillator model, is proposed. The results are compatible with experimental data.

Abstract:The impulse-approximation expression used hitherto to define the pion's valence-quark distribution function is flawed because it omits contributions from the gluons which bind quarks into the pion. A corrected leading-order expression produces the model-independent result that quarks dressed via the rainbow–ladder truncation, or any practical analogue, carry all the pion's light-front momentum at a characteristic hadronic scale. Corrections to the leading contribution may be divided into two classes, responsible for shifting dressed-quark momentum into glue and sea-quarks. Working with available empirical information, we use an algebraic model to express the principal impact of both classes of corrections. This enables a realistic comparison with experiment that allows us to highlight the basic features of the pion's measurable valence-quark distribution, qπ(x); namely, at a characteristic hadronic scale, qπ(x)∼(1−x)2 for x≳0.85; and the valence-quarks carry approximately two-thirds of the pion's light-front momentum.

Abstract:Pion valence, glue, and sea distributions are calculated using a continuum approach to the two valence-body bound-state problem. Since the framework is symmetry preserving, physical features of the distributions are properly expressed. The analysis reveals that the emergent phenomenon of dynamical chiral symmetry breaking causes a hardening of the valence-quark distribution function, q(pi)(x). Nevertheless, this distribution exhibits the x similar or equal to 1 behavior predicted by quantum chromodynamics (QCD). At the scale zeta(2) := 2 GeV, the following momentum fractions are predicted: < x(valence)> = 0.48(3), < x(glue)> = 0.41(2), < x(sca)> = 0.11(2). Evolving to zeta = 5.2 GeV, the result for q(pi)(x) agrees with that computed using lattice QCD. These outcomes should both spur improved analyses of existing experiments and stimulate efforts to obtain new data on the pion distribution functions using available and envisioned facilities.

Abstract:We improve the Monte-Carlo based QCD sum rules by introducing the rigorous Hölder-inequality-determined sum rule window and a Breit-Wigner type parametrization for the phenomenological spectral function. In this improved sum rule analysis methodology, the sum rule analysis window can be determined without any assumptions on OPE convergence or the QCD continuum. Therefore, an unbiased prediction can be obtained for the phenomenological parameters (the hadronic mass and width etc.). We test the new approach in the ρ meson channel with re-examination and inclusion of αs corrections to dimension-4 condensates in the OPE. We obtain results highly consistent with experimental values. We also discuss the possible extension of this method to some other channels.

Abstract:We present the gluon distribution functions of pion and kaon in small-$x$ and large-$x$ regions, and compare them with the results obtained from lattice QCD and continuum Schwinger function methods. Whether in the small-$x$ region or the large-$x$ region, our gluon distribution of pion is consistent with the results of lattice QCD and continuum Schwinger function method. In addition, the first four moments of gluon distributions of pion and kaon at different $Q^{2}$ scales are calculated. Furthermore, we present the mass decompositions of pion and kaon with the dynamical parton distribution functions calculated by the DGLAP equation with parton-parton recombination corrections. The mass structures of pion and kaon are totally different from that of the proton.

Non-zero Transversity Distribution of the Pion in a Quark-Spectator-antiquark Model

Abstract:We calculate the nonzero (naive) T-odd transverse momentum dependent transversity distribution h(1)(perpendicular to)(x,k(perpendicular to)(2)) of the pion in a quark-spectator-antiquark model. The final-state interaction is modeled by the approximation of one gluon exchange between the quark and the antiquark spectator. Using our model result we estimate the unsuppressed cos2phi azimuthal asymmetry in unpolarized pi(-)p Drell-Yan process. We find that the transverse momentum dependence of h(1)(perpendicular to)(x,k(perpendicular to)(2)) of the pion is the same as that of h(1)(perpendicular to)(x,k(perpendicular to)(2)) of the proton calculated from the quark-scalar-diquark model, although the x dependencies of them are different from each other. This suggests a connection between cos2phi asymmetries in Drell-Yan processes with different initial hadrons.

Abstract:We describe expressions for pion and kaon dressed-quark distribution functions that incorporate contributions from gluons which bind quarks into these mesons and hence overcome a flaw of the commonly used handbag approximation. The distributions therewith obtained are purely valence in character, ensuring that dressed quarks carry all the meson's momentum at a characteristic hadronic scale and vanish as (1 - x)(2) when Bjorken-x -> 1. Comparing such distributions within the pion and kaon, it is apparent that the size of SU(3)-flavor symmetry breaking in meson parton distribution functions is modulated by the flavor dependence of dynamical chiral symmetry breaking. Corrections to these leading-order formulas may be divided into two classes, responsible for shifting dressed-quark momentum into glue and sea quarks. Working with available empirical information, we build an algebraic framework that is capable of expressing the principal impact of both classes of corrections. This enables a realistic comparison with experiment which allows us to identify and highlight basic features of measurable pion and kaon valence-quark distributions. We find that whereas roughly two thirds of the pion's light-front momentum is carried by valence dressed quarks at a characteristic hadronic scale; this fraction rises to 95% in the kaon; evolving distributions with these features to a scale typical of available Drell-Yan data produces a kaon-to-pion ratio of u-quark distributions that is in agreement with the single existing data set, and predicts a u-quark distribution within the pion that agrees with a modern reappraisal of pi N Drell-Yan data. Precise new data are essential in order to validate this reappraisal and because a single modest-quality measurement of the kaon-to-pion ratio cannot be considered definitive.

Abstract:The pion light-cone distribution amplitude (LCDA) is a central nonperturbative object of interest for high-energy exclusive processes in quantum chromodynamics. In this article, the second Mellin moment of the pion LCDA is determined as a proof-of-concept calculation for the first numerical implementation of the heavy-quark operator product expansion method. The resulting value for the second Mellin moment, determined in quenched QCD at a pion mass of mπ=550 MeV at a factorization scale of 2 GeV is ⟨ξ2⟩=0.210±0.013(stat)±0.034(sys). This result is compatible with those from previous determinations of this quantity.

Abstract:Using realistic quark propagators and meson Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes based on the Dyson-Schwinger equations, we calculate the pion and kaon's valence parton distribution functions (PDF) through the modified impulse approximation. The PDFs we obtained at hadronic scale have the purely valence characteristic and exhibit both dynamical chiral symmetry breaking and SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking effects. A new calculation technique is introduced to determine the valence PDFs with precision. Through next-to-leading order (NLO) evolution, our result is compared with pion and kaon valence PDF data at experimental scale. Good agreement is found in the case of pion, while deviation emerges for kaon. We point out this situation can potentially be resolved by incorporating gluon contributions into the mesons if the pion hosts more gluons than kaon nonperturbatively.
Pion-photon and kaon-photon transition distribution amplitudes in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model

Abstract:The Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model is utilized to investigate the pion and kaon photon leading-twist transition distribution amplitudes using proper time regularization. Separately, the properties of the vector and axial vector pion photon transition distribution amplitudes are examined, and the results meet the desired properties. Our study involves sum rule and polynomiality condition. The vector and axial vector pion photon transition form factors that are present in the $\pi^+\rightarrow \gamma e^+ \nu$ process are the first Mellin moments of the pion photon transition distribution amplitudes. The vector transition form factor originates from the internal structure of hadrons, the axial current can be coupled to a pion, this pion is virtual, and its contribution will be present independently of the external hadrons. The kaon transition form factors are similar. The vector form factor's value at zero momentum transfer is determined by the axial anomaly, while this is not the case for the axial one. The vector and axial form factors, as well as the neutral pion vector form factor $F_{\pi \gamma \gamma}(t)$, are depicted. According to our findings, the pion axial transition form factor is harder than the vector transition form factor and harder than the electromagnetic form factor. We also discuss the link between $\pi - \gamma $ and $\gamma - \pi$ transitions distribution amplitudes.
