Abstract:180 Hi-Line Brown hens were exposed to red (660 nm, R), green (560 nm, G) and blue (480 nm, B) light from light emitting diode (LED) lamps and incandescent light (400~700 nm, W) for19 to 52 weeks and to study the monochromatic light effect on the egg size, eggshell index, long and short length of egg and eggshell quality in this experiment. All light sources were equalized under 15 lx light intensity for 16 h daily. The result showed: ①The egg weight in W light was the heaviest (61.1 g) and those in R light was the lightest (59.2 g) and there have significantly different(P < 0.05) with each other from 19 to 52 weeks. ②The long length of egg in B light was significantly shorter(P < 0.05) than those in other lights and its short length was significantly shorter(P < 0.05) than those in W light, the short length of egg in R light was highly significantly shorter(P < 0.01) than those in other lights from 38 to 52 weeks. ③The eggshell index in G light (1.303) was significantly larger(P < 0.05) than those in other lights from 19 to 37 weeks, and the eggshell index in R light (1.343) was highly significantly larger (P < 0.01) than those in other lights from 38 to 52 weeks. ④The eggshell strength in G light was highly significantly better (P < 0.01) than those in W and B lights and the eggshell thickness in G light was significantly better(P < 0.05) than those in other lights; the eggshell color in B light was the significantly lower(P < 0.05) than those in W light from 21 to 45 weeks respectively. Our results indicated that B light has the long and short length of egg became shorter and R light has the short length of egg became shorter with age, which result in the increasing tendency of the egg weight with age in B and R lights became slower than those in W and G lights. The monochromatic light can influence the eggshell quality and the eggshell quality was best in G light.
