Abstract:The reaction of AgNO3 with bulky anthracene-9-carboxylic acid (HL1) in the presence of 2,6-dimethylpyridine (dmp) afforded a photoluminescent hexanuclear discrete AgI complex [Ag6(L1)6(dmp)2] exhibiting C–H⋯Ag interactions whose total interaction energy were further estimated by DFT calculations. The relevant results reveal that the steric bulk of the anthracene ring skeleton of L1 may play important roles in the formation of the final structure.

Abstract:Six new silver(I) complexes with diphosphine ligands and 1,10-phenanthroline derivatives are named by [Ag-2(dppe)(dicnq)(2)](CF3SO3)(2) (1), Ag-2(dppp)(2)(dicnq)(2)](CF3SO3)(2) (2), Ag-2(dppp)(2)(dicnq)(2)](CF3SO3)(2) (3), [Ag(DPEphos)(dicnq)]CF3SO3 (4), {[Ag(dppe)(dmp)](CF3SO3)center dot(CH3OH)center dot(H2O)(n)) (5), [Ag-2(dppp)(2)(dmp)(2)] (CF3SO3)(2)center dot(H2O) (6), (dppe = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane, dppp = 1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)propane, dppb = 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)butane, DPEphos = bis[2-(diphenylphosphanyl)phenyllether, dmp = 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline, dicnq = 6,7-dicyanodipyridoquinoxaline) were characterized by IR and X-ray diffraction. Further fluorescence spectroscopy, photocatalytic properties and terahertz time-domain spectra (THz-TDS) were performed on 2-6. Complexes 1-3 and 6 were binuclear, while 4 was mononuclear. Complex 5 was a coordination polymer, displaying a one-dimensional infinite chain. Moreover, complexes 1, 2 and 4 were assembled via several pairs of C-H...pi It interactions to 1D-3D supramolecular architectures. The emission peaks of the complexes 2-4 all exhibit a large degree of red shift, which may be tentatively attributed to the intraligand transition. Compounds 2-6 represented the first examples of Ag(I) complexes bearing both diphosphine and diimine ligands that exhibit high, efficient photocatalytic abilities for dye degradation under UV light and show good stability toward photocatalysis. [Ag(IPr)(bpy)][PF6]: Brightness and Darkness Playing with Aggregation Induced Phosphorescence for Light-emitting Electrochemical Cells

Abstract:Heteroleptic silver(I) complexes have recently started to attract the attention in thin-film lighting technologies as an alternative to copper(I) analogous due to lack of flattening distortion upon excitation. However, the interpretation of their photophyiscal behavior is challenging going from traditional fluorescence/phosphorescence to a temperature-dependent dual emission mechanism and to a ligand-lock assisted thermally activated delay fluorescence. Herein, we unveil the photoluminescence behavior of a three-coordinated Ag(I) complex with N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand and 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) as N^N ligand. In contrast to its low-emissive Cu(I) complex structural analogous, a strong greenish emission was attributed to the presence of aggregates formed by - intermolecular interactions as revealed by the X-ray structure and aggregation induced emission (AIE) studies in solution. In addition, the temperature-dependent time-resolved spectroscopic and computational studies demonstrated that the emission mechanism is related to a dual phosphorescence emission mechanism of two very close lying (ΔE = 0.08 eV) excited triplet states, exhibiting a similar delocalized nature over the bipyridine ligands. Unfortunately, this favourable AIE is lost upon forming homogenous thin-films suitable for lighting devices. Though the films showed a very poor emission, the electrochemical stability under device operation conditions is remarkable compared to the prior-art, highlighting the interest of [Ag(NHC)(N^N)][X] complexes for thin-film lighting.

Abstract:Five mono‐nuclear silver (I) complexes with 6,7‐dicyanodipyridoquinoxaline ligand, namely {[Ag(DPEphos)(dicnq)]NO3}2·CH3OH (1), [Ag(DPEphos)(dicnq)]BF4·CH3OH (2), [Ag(XANTphos)(dicnq)]CF3SO3 (3), {[Ag(XANTphos)(dicnq)]NO3}2 (4), and [Ag(XANTphos)(dicnq)]ClO4·CH2Cl2 (5) {DPEphos = bis[2‐(diphenylphosphanyl)phenyl]ether, dicnq = 6,7‐dicyanodipyridoquinoxaline, XANTphos = 9,9‐dimethyl‐4,5‐bis(diphenylphosphanyl)xanthene} were characterized by X‐ray diffraction, IR, 1H NMR, 31P NMR, fluorescence spectra, and terahertz time‐domain spectra (THz‐TDS). In the five complexes the AgI, which is coordinated by two kinds of chelating ligands, adopts four‐coordinate modes to generate mono‐nuclear structures. The C–H···π interactions lead to formation of a 1D infinite chain for complexes 2 and 3. The crystal packing of complexes 1 and 5 reveal that they form 3D supermolecular network by several pairs of C–H···π interactions. The emissions of these complexes are attributed to ligands‐centered [π–π*] transition based on both of the P‐donor and N‐donor ligands.

Abstract:To explore the influence of anthracene skeleton with a larger conjugated pi-system oil the structures and properties of its complexes, two Ag-I-carboxylate complexes based on anthracene-9,10-dicarboxylate (L) were synthesized and characterized: [{[Ag(L)][Ag(dmpy)(2)]}(infinity)] (1) and [{[Ag-2(L)(dmpy)(2)]}(infinity)] (2) (dmpy = 2,6-dimethylpyridine and bipy = 4,4'-bipyridine). Complex 1 has an interesting framework consisting of anionic chains {[Ag(L)](-)}(infinity) and the mononuclear cationic units [Ag(dmpy(2))(+)], which is further assembled to form networks along the different crystallographic directions by the intermolecular C-H center dot center dot center dot Ag hydrogen-bonding interactions. Complex 2 takes a ladder-like chain Structure by incorporating 4.4'-bipyridine (bipy) as a bridging co-ligand, which is further interlinked to generate a planar network through interchain Ag-Ag bonding contacts. The steric bulk of anthracene ring in L may play an important role in the formation of 1 and 2. Moreover, the luminescent properties of the 1 and 2 were investigated in detail.

Abstract:A new ligand containing tetraphenylethylene and terpyridine moieties, and its zinc ion complex were synthesized. Both of them exhibit an aggregation-induced emission effect. Their colors and emissions can be smartly switched by various external stimuli including grinding, heating and solvent-fuming, as well as exposure to acid and base vapors.

Their terahertz (THz) time-domain spectra were also studied. In these complexes the silver(I), which is coordinated by two kinds of chelating ligands, adopts four-coordinate modes to generate mono-nuclear structures. In complexes 1, 3-5, offset pi center dot center dot center dot pi weak interactions exist between the neighboring benzene rings. In the P-31 NMR spectra, there exist splitting signals (dd), which can be attributed to the coupling of the Ag-107,Ag-109-P-31. All the emission peaks of these complexes are attributed to ligand-centered excited states.

Abstract:Luminescent coinage metal complexes have shown promising applications as electroluminescent emitters, photocatalysts/photosensitizers, and bioimaging/theranostic agents, rendering them attractive alternatives to transition metal complexes based on iridium, ruthenium, and platinum that have extremely low earth abundance. In comparison to the widely studied Au(I) and Cu(I) complexes, Ag(I) complexes have seldom been explored in this field because of their inferior emission properties. Herein, we report a novel series of [Ag(N^N)(P^P)]PF<sub>6</sub> complexes exhibiting highly efficient thermally activated delayed fluorescence by using easily accessible neutral diamine ligands and commercially available ancillary diphosphine chelates. The photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) of the Ag(I) emitters are ≤0.62 in doped films. The high PLQY with a large delayed fluorescence ratio enabled the fabrication of solution-processed organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with a high maximum external quantum efficiency of 8.76%, among the highest values for Ag(I) emitter-based OLEDs. Abstract:Two novel silver (I) complexes, [Ag-2(dppp)(2)(phen)(2)] (CF3SO3)(2) (1) and [Ag-2(dppm)(2)(dpq)(2)] (CF3SO3)(2)center dot 3CH(3)OH (2) (dppp =bis (diphenylphosphino)propane, dppm = bis (diphenylphosphino)methane, phen =1,10-phenanthroline, dpq=pyrazino [2,3-f ][1,10]phenanthroline), have been synthesized in mixed solvent CH3OH and CH2C12 and characterized by IR, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, H-1 NMR spectroscopy, fluorescence spectra and THz time domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). Complex 1 is of a binuclear complex,which was generated by the reaction of AgCF3SO3 and dppp with phen in 1:1:1 molar ratio. In complex 1, the central Ag(I) ion forms a ring by the bridging bisphosphine ligand (dppp) and chelating N-donor ligand (phen). Like 1, 2 is of a binuclear complex, which was obtained by the reaction of AgCF3SO3 and dppm with dpq in 1:1:1 molar ratio. The luminescent spectra show that all these emissions are assigned to ligand centered pi-pi* transition. CCDC: 890658, 1; 1571774, 2.

Abstract:Two silver(Ⅰ) complexes [Ag2(L)2](CF3COO)2(1) and [Ag2(L)2](CF3SO3)2(2) [L=2-methyl-4,6-di(pyridin-3-yl)pyrimidine] were synthesized and characterized by elemental,IR and single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses.The binuclear complexes 1 and 2 form infinite 1D chains through argentophilic interactions,and further extend into 2D supramolecular networks by π-π interactions.The photoluminescent measurements reveal that complex 2 exhibits fluorescent emission in the solid state at room temperature and the luminescent decay time was determined.

Abstract:A series of Ag(i) and Cu(i) complexes [Ag-3(L-1)(2)][PF6](3) (8), [Ag-3(L-2)(2)][PF6](3) (9), [Cu(L-1)][PF6] (10) and [Cu(L-2)][PF6] (11) have been synthesized by reactions of the tridentate amine-bis(N-heterocyclic carbene) ligand precursors [H2L1][PF6](2) (6) and [H2L2][PF6](2) (7) with Ag2O and Cu2O, respectively. Complexes 10 and 11 can also be obtained by transmetalation of 8 and 9, respectively, with 3.0 equiv. of CuCl. A heterometallic Cu/Ag-NHC complex [Cu2Ag(L-1)(2)(CH3CN)(2)][PF6](3) (12) is formed by the reaction of 8 with 2.0 equiv. of CuCl. All complexes have been characterized by NMR, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The luminescence properties of 10-12 in solution and the solid state have been studied. At room temperature, 10-12 exhibit evident luminescence in solution and the solid state. The emission wavelengths are found to be identical at 483 nm in CH3CN, but they are 484, 480 and 592 nm in the solid state for 10-12, respectively. These results suggest that 12 dissociates into two molecules of 10 and Ag(i) ions in solution. Complex 12 is the first luminescent heterometallic Cu/Ag-NHC complex.

Abstract:A new silver(I) compound 6 ([Ag6L66]center dot 4DMF) containing thiosemicarbazone with the group of 2-chloro-1-benzene was synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis and fluorescence spectrum. The title compound 6 crystallizes in monoclinic, space group C2/c with a = 26.9236(18), b = 15.2553(8), c = 24.6237(13) angstrom, beta = 103.0680(10)degrees, V = 9851.7(10) angstrom(3), C58H66Ag6Cl6N20O3S6, M-r = 2143.59, D-c = 1.445 g/cm(3), mu(MoK alpha) = 1.503 mm(-1), F(000) = 4232, Z = 4, the fmal R = 0.0565 and wR = 0.1654 for 5831 observed reflections (I > 2 sigma(I)). Similar to the structure of the compounds we have reported, compound 6 also exhibits a hexanuclear silver(I) cluster. In the cluster, the S atom of ligand L-6 (L-6 = 2-chloro-1-benzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone) served as a triply bridged chelator to connect the six silver atoms into a Ag6L66 cluster. The luminescence property of compound 6 was investigated at room temperature and compared with other similar compounds in order to find the factors influencing their luminescent property.

Abstract:Two Ag(I) complexes, namely [Ag2(L1)2(HMIP)2·H2O]n (1) and [Ag2(L2)2(HPA)2]n (2) (L1 = 1,6-bis(2-methylbenzimidazol-1-yl)hexane, L2 = 1,6-bis(benzimidazol-1-yl)hexane, H2MIP = 5-methylisophthalic acid, H2PA = phthalic acid), were hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by physicochemical and spectroscopic methods. 1 Processes a binuclear Ag(I) structure which is further extended into a 2D supramolecular network by hydrogen bonds and π–π stacking interactions. 2 Features a 1D meandering chain which is linked into a 3D supramolecular network by Ag···O and π–π stacking interactions. Complex 1 is shown to be a highly sensitive material for luminescence detecting Fe3+ in aqueous solution. These complexes display high photocatalytic activities for degradation of methylene blue under UV irradiation.

The title compound 6 crystallizes in monoclinic, space group C2/c with a = 26.9236(18), b = 15.2553(8), c = 24.6237(13) , β = 103.0680(10)°, V = 9851.7(10)3, C58H66Ag6Cl6N20O3S6, Mr = 2143.59, Dc = 1.445 g/cm3, μ(MoKα) = 1.503 mm-1, F(000) = 4232, Z = 4, the final R = 0.0565 and wR = 0.1654 for 5831 observed reflections (Ⅰ > 2σ(Ⅰ)). Similar to the structure of the compounds we have reported, compound 6 also exhibits a hexanuclear silver(Ⅰ) cluster. In the cluster, the S atom of ligand L6 (L6 = 2-chloro-1-benzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone) served as a triply bridged chelator to connect the six silver atoms into a Ag6L66 cluster. The luminescence property of compound 6 was investigated at room temperature and compared with other similar compounds in order to find the factors influencing their luminescent property.

Abstract:A novel binuclear Ag(I) complex [Ag-2(C6H6N3O)(2)(C6H7N3O)(2)]center dot 2CH(3)CN (1) was synthesized by the evaporation reaction of silver nitrate and (E)-1-(pyrazin-2-yl)ethanone oxime (HL). The complex was characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectrum and X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c with a = 22.7089(3), b = 11.5443(7), c = 16.1468(4) angstrom, beta = 127.7150(10)degrees, V = 3348.6(2) angstrom(3), D-c = 1.675 g/cm(3), M-r = 844.42, Z = 4, F(000) = 1696.0, mu = 1.226 mm(-1), the final R = 0.0250 and wR = 0.070. The coordination around the silver(I) atom is a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry involving one protonated pyrazinyl oxime ligand (HL), one deprotonated oxime ligand (E) and one CH3CN solvate molecule in the asymmetric unit of complex 1.

Abstract:Complex [Ag(IPr)(3-Medpa)][PF6] (1) possessing the same combination of ligands than a previously reported [Cu(IPr)(3-Medpa)][PF6] (2) applied in blue-emitting Light-emitting Electrochemical Cells (LEC) has been synthesized and fully structurally and photophysically characterized both, in powder and thin-film. In detail, temperature-dependent steady-state, time-resolved emission experiments, and computational calculations have been performed to understand the impact of nature of the ion metal center on the photophysical and electroluminescent properties. Here, a direct comparison between complexes reveals i) a distinct emission behavior such as fluorescence (1) vs. thermally activated delay fluorescence (2) caused by a dramatic change of the nature of the emitting excited states from ligand centered (1) to metal-to-ligand charge transfer (2), ii) an unforeseen crystallinity-dependent emission in 1 that leads to either smooth and non-emissive thin-films or phase aggregated and emissive thin-films, and iii) 1-based LECs with an stable electrical behavior over 100 h that contrasts over the prior-art of a few minutes (2).
