Abstract:Significances of development woody oil production were discussed.Current situation,advantages and prospect of woody oil production in China were analyzed.A series of countermeasures were put forward based on existing problems,including that choosing oil trees according to local conditions,scientific designing layout with regional characteristics and large-scale production,enhancing research innovation and technology extension,strengthening existing forest trees management for sustainable utilization of resources,implementing brand strategy,establishing and perfecting standardization production system and guarantee systems of policy,fund and service.

Abstract:Biomass energy is abundant on earth, inexhaustible renewable energy only. Development and utilization of biomass energy is one important way to solve the world's energy and environmental issues. Development of biomass energy application technology has become a world focus. In this paper, we summarized the development and utilization technologies of biomass energy, reviewed the status of biomass energy utilization at home and abroad, analyzed the situation facing and problems existing in utilization of biomass energy development at home and proposed development strategies of biomass energy. In order to ensure China's energy "independence" and "security", we must develop practical biomass energy development strategies consistent with China's national conditions; promote vigorously the development and utilization of biomass energy technology industrialized and effort to improve our level.

Abstract:With the increasingly serious problems of energy shortage and environmental degradation, countries around the world are actively developing safe, environmentally friendly, and renewable energy. Biomass energy has become an ideal substitute for fossil fuels due to its abundant reserves, good renewable performance, and zero carbon emissions. This paper discusses the importance and potential of biomass energy as a renewable energy source for China's energy development, mainly including the three biomass conversion methods of physics, chemistry, and biology, seven utilization technologies, such as direct combustion, gasification, and pyrolysis, and five application approaches, such as biomass power generation, biomass gas fuel, biomass liquid fuel, and bio-based materials. This review systematically analyzes the challenges faced by China's development of biomass energy and discusses the future development direction of biomass. The utilization of biomass resources should take a comprehensive and high-value path. China is actively looking for new energy utilization paths, and biomass energy has become a key measure to cope with carbon emission reduction, climate change, and ecological environment protection.

Analysis on Status, Potential and Barrier of the Biodiesel Development in China

Abstract:This paper offers an analysis on the biodiesel development in China. Based on the overview of the cur-rent situation, this paper discusses the development potential from the aspect of wild energy plant species, oil crops and waste edible oils, and then analyzes barriers to biodiesel development in terms of resources, funds, technologies and criteria. Finally, several related policy proposals are presented. The research indicates that China has a huge development potential in biodiesel due to various fine energy tree species and a large quantity of marginal land. More important is its competitive price. However,conditions are still not prepared for large-scale development of biodiesel now. Government forces must be involved in the future to support and cultivate the biodiesel industry.

Abstract:Forest-based bioenergy is gaining global popularity due to its multiple benefits and increased global energy needs. In this study, the current status of forest-based bioenergy in China was reviewed and the opportunities and challenges were analyzed. The latest national development plan for forest-based bioenergy was also discussed. It can be concluded from the study that forest-based bioenergy is still in the beginning stage in China but will grow rapidly in the next decade due to abundant resources and strong government support. However, there are major constraints that need to be addressed including unstable feedstock supply, low market interest and investments, inadequate R&D, and competition from other forest products. The national development plan sets up a mid-term goal for developing forest-based bioenergy but more supporting policies are required to guarantee its successful implementation.

Abstract:A review was conducted on models of production, strengths, existing problems and development trend in using wetland plants for energy production. The plants grown in constructed wetland are advantageous due to no need for extra fertilization, high biomass production, and high species diversity, they can be used as one of the suitable raw material resources for biomass briquette fuel, biogas and bioethanol production. Models of using plant biomass for bioenergy production will be developed to achieve the harmonization among energy need, wastewater treatment and environmental protection.

Abstract:Woody grain and oil industry is an industry category of cultivation and utilization of woody starch and woody oil plants.Development of woody grain and oil in China is the inevitable choice to alleviate the contradiction between supply and demand of grain and oil and protect the safety of cereal,oil and foodstuffs,it is an important way of developing green economy and increasing farmers' income,it is the actual need of optimizing food structure and improving people's living standards,and it is the effective way of speeding up greening and improving ecological environment.There are abundant resources of woody grain and oil tree species,innumerable mountain areas which is suitable for developing woody grain and oil,broad consumer market both at home and abroad.Development of woody grain and oil industry should be included in the new development track of the national food security,cooking oil and energy security.Some suggestions and strategies were put forward,including strengthening the government support,increasing science and technology support,making scientific planning for woody grain and oil industry,implementing intensive cultivation of woody grain and oil industry,extending industry chain,improving comprehensive benefit,promoting industrialization technical level of woody grain and oil,strengthening personnel training,and ensuring technical force of industry development.

Abstract:Energy crop cultivation plays a crucial role in bioenergy development in the world.Our aim in this paper is to review the researches of energy crops and represent their perspectives.The concept and classification of energy crops are analysed based on the specific condition of China and three groups of starch and sugar crops,oil crops and lignocellulosic crops are discussed.Traditional crops such as cereals and sugarcane(Saccharum officinarum) are the main feedstock to produce fuel ethanol up to date.It has been recognized that cassava(Manihot esculenta),sweet sorghum(Sorghum bicolor) and sugar beet(Beta vulgaris var.altissima) are more potential starch and sugar crops for fuel ethanol production.Annual oil crops such as rapeseed(B.rapa ssp.oleifera),soy bean(Glycine max),Castor bean(Ricinus communis) are the most important ones to produce biodiesel.Woody oil plants,e.g.Chinese pistache(Pistacia chinensis),physic nut(Jatropha curcas),and shiny-leaved yellowhorn(Xanthoceras sorbifolia),will play an important role in biodiesel production in future due to their adaptability to hilly lands.However,compared to traditional row crops,perennial fastgrowing woody plants and rhizomatous grasses,i.e.liginocellulosic crops,have the most characteristics favorable to biomass energy production.General information on sweet sorghum,cassava,switchgrass(Panicum virgatum),miscanthus(Miscanthus spp.),willow(Salix spp.) is represented which have been paid great attention on and well documented as energy crops in the past decades.Energy crop plantation gives rise to environmental concerns and will impose more pressure on arable land producing food for the human.In China,arable land availability is limited due to the huge and increasing population.It is essential to screen plant species and improve crop varieties with high resistance and productivity to grow in marginal lands,which exhibit a great potential for energy crop production.Attention is suggested to be paid to potential species which have high photosynthesis efficiency and cause less soil erosion,and/or those from which vegetable organs are harvested due to a higher harvest index.Perennial woody and herbaceous lingnocellulosic crops which are native in China are expected to play an important role in biomass energy development in the country.Diverse crop species and varieties with harvest seasons in a specific region are as well required to meet the continuous industrial processes of energy conversion.

Abstract:Eucalyptus is not only one of the most important high-yield commercial forest species,but also an excellent species of energy resources. Eucalyptus plantation is the fastest growing with the largest biomass among man-made forests of the world because of its highly effective photosynthesis mechanism. Thanks to the good mechanism of water-adaptability, eucalyptus is strongly drought-resistant. Eucalyptus can also reduce nutrient distribution of per specific leaf area to adapt to adverse environment. Eucalyptus is widely adaptable to the poor and lean lands because it is a typical mycorrhizal tree. In Australia, it is easy to find many special varieties including those possessing the characteritics of good salinity-tolerance, waterlogging-tolerance, cold-tolerance or wind-resistance because eucalyptus trees are widely distributed in various types of climatical and geological environments in Australia. The advantages of eucalyptus as bioenergy resource are; easy management and low maintaining costs; easy propagation; the large amount of buds under the bark lead to strong germinating ability; resistance to disease and pest because of its abundant essential oils. The ways for utilizing eucalyptus as bioenergy resource are: transfer of essential oils to diesel oil; The whole tree is a good fuel material because of the high caloric value; Carbonization as charcoal and activated carbon; Liquefied fuels. It is estimated that currently there are 1. 8 millions hm2 eucalypt plantation in China, which continue to increase at the rate up to 10 % per year. Thanks to the quick development of the plantation, the techniques for production and utilization of eucalyptus have been well developed. This paper introduced also the present status of eucalyptus bioenergy production in Australia. Similarly, the time is ripe to produce bioenergy through eucalyptus in China.
