Abstract:The synthesis of a novel aluminophosphate microporous compound AIPO(4)-JDF (where J means Jilin University and DF is Davy Faraday Laboratory) containing organic amine in the presence of the template HOCH2CH2NH2 from predominantly non-aqueous media is described. Chemical and elemental analyses disclosed its idealized formula as 2AlPO(4) . HOCH2CH2NH2. Abstract:The full crystallization of the aluminophosphate form of the AFO (AlPO4-41) structure was realized, for the first time, from non-aqueous systems involving an alcohol as the solvent. Several secondary amines including diethylamine, dipropylamine, diisopropylamine, dibutylamine and dipentylamine were used as the templates to direct the formation of this molecular sieve. The products were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, differential thermal analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis.

Abstract:We present a strategy toward the rational synthesis of microporous materials by combination of computational and combinatorial approach. In terms of nonbonding interaction energies of host–guest calculated by the molecular dynamics simulations using Cerius 2 package, the templating abilities of various organic amines in the formation of microporous aluminophosphate AlPO 4 -21 have been evaluated. Through rational selection of the predicted suitable templates, such as ethanolamine, trimethylamine and N , N , N′ , N′ -tetramethylenediamine, AlPO 4 -21 has been successfully synthesized by hydrothermal combinatorial approaches in the reaction system 1.0Al( i OPr) 3 - x H 3 PO 4 - y R-255.0H 2 O (R amines). The as-synthesized products are characterized by automated X-ray powder diffraction, ICP, TG, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. Their framework structures belong to zeotype AWO, which possesses eight-membered ring channels along [001] direction.

Abstract:This paper deals with the investigation of the crystallization mechanism of a microporous aluminophosphate AlPO4-21, with dimethyl amine as a template agent in organic solvents. The dependence of the crystallization rate of AlPO4-21 on water/organic solvents ratio is examined by calculating crystallization rates (referred to as k*) in different organic solvents involving ethylene glycol, ethylene glycol monoether, diethylene glycol and 1,4-butanediol. The solvation effect as a quantitative indication of the relation between k* and the polarities of the organic solvents under Koppel's solvation effect model shows that the templating effect in the crystallization of AlPO4-21 may be considered as a bimolecular process in which the formation of the crystallization transition state is related to the initial aluminophosphate gel and the steric–electronic effect of the amine. The templating effect appears to be similar to an organic reaction following nucleophilic mechanism, and is confirmed by linear free energy relationship analysis for both substituent constants of amines and crystallization rate. In order to design the electronic transfer model in the crystallization transition state of AlPO4-21, various coordination states for Al and P atoms are characterized by 27Al and 31P MAS NMR spectra. A steric–electronic model is proposed for the templating effect on the crystallization process of AlPO4-21.

Abstract:Using the method of molecular dynamics, the templating effect between several organic amines and the 3D framework of the microporous aluminophosphate Al4P5O20H .C6N2H18(AlPO - HDA) was studied. In terms of the host - guest non - bonding interaction, several kinds of organic molecules were predicted potential in the formation of the 3D inorganic framework of AlPO - HDA. Using the theoretical predicted diethylenetriamine as template, Al4P5O20 . C4N3H15 (AlPO - DET) was prepared successfully under solvothermal condition. Powder XRD patterns, ICP and elementary analysis, FT - IR, Al-27 and P-31 MAS MMR and TG analysis all suggest that AlPO - DET have the 3D opening framework analogous to that of AlPO - HDA. This work has demonstrated that the suitable template molecules can be successfully predicted for a given host opening framework in terms of energy calculation.
Multinuclear solid-state NMR studies on the formation mechanism of aluminophosphate molecular sieves in ionic liquids

Abstract:In the present work, multinuclear solid-state NMR techniques together with power X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were employed to monitor the crystallization process of aluminophosphate AlPO4-11 molecular sieves in 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([emim]Br) ionic liquids (LLs). The local environments of the selected solid samples were probed by one-dimensional Al-27, P-31, and F-19 MAS NMR experiments, and more information was obtained from two-dimensional Al-27 -> P-31 heteronuclear correlation (HETCOR) and Al-27 triple-quantum MAS (3QMAS) experiments. It is found that a large amount of amorphous aluminophosphates was formed with the F-Al-oct-O-P-par and Al-tet-O-P-par structures in the initial stage of aging. With increasing crystallization time, the partially condensed framework phosphorus species disappeared gradually and became fully condensed. Meanwhile, the octahedral Al was transformed into the pentahedra] and tetrahedral Al species with the structures of F-Al-penta-O-P-ful and Al-tet-O-P-ful in the AlPO4-11 frameworks. During the crystallization process, [emim] cations acting as the structure-directing agents were occluded into the channels, and F- anions were connected with pentahedral Al in the final AlPO4-11 phase. All of these findings can allow proposing a possible formation mechanism for the synthesis of AlPO4-11 in ionic liquids.

Abstract:A family of lamellar aluminophosphates designated APO-Ln (L stands for lamellar and n = 6, 8, 10, 12, the number of carbon atoms for the occluded template molecules) was synthesized from a mixture of phosphoric acid, aluminum triisopropoxide, ethylene glycol and an unbranched primary alcohol in the presence of an amine as the structure-directing template. The compounds were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, MAS NMR spectroscopy, differential thermal, and thermogravimetric analyses. The inorganic layers of APO-Ln are composed of PO4, AlO4, and AlO6 structural units, and the ratio of the octahedral Al to the tetrahedral Al in the as-synthesized compounds is about 1:1. APO-Ln exhibit a distinct weight loss when treated at elevated temperatures, and upon dehydration they adsorb a considerable amount of water. Dehydration-rehydration for APO-Ln materials is reversible with the dehydrated samples containing almost only tetrahedrally coordinated aluminum.

Abstract:A new microporous aluminophosphate [Al2P2O8][OCH2CH2NH3], denoted APO-CJ3 (CJ3: China, Jilin University, number 3), has been prepared from aqueous as well as non-aqueous systems. The as-synthesized product is characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, 27Al and 31P magic-angle-spinning NMR, thermogravimetric and differential thermal analyses. The structure has been solved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. APO-CJ3 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pbca, with a=9.993(2) Å, b=8.583(3) Å, c=19.705(4) Å and Z=8. The structure resembles microporous aluminophosphate AlPO4-D, and is featured by chains of four-membered rings that are connected by UDUD linkages. The compound contains two kinds of Al atoms, one is four-coordinated and the other is six-coordinated linking another six-coordinated Al atom by the linkages of bridging O atom of ethanolamine template. Upon removal of the template above 450°C, the structure of APO-CJ3 transforms to AlPO4-D.

Abstract:Highly crystalline aluminophosphate molecular sieve AlPO4-11 was synthesized using both water and triethylene glycol (TEG) as solvent. The products were thoroughly characterized by powder X-ray diffraction analyses, thermogravimetric analyses (TGA), scanning electron microscope (SEM) analyses, and solid-state CP/MAS NMR analyses. The results showed that both AlPO4-11s had high degree of crystallinity and good thermal stability. The AlPO4-11 synthesized with triethylene glycol had a different morphology from that synthesized with water. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and 13C CP/MAS NMR analyses showed that the bulky organic solvent molecules were encapsulated in the organic-amine-occupied channels of AlPO4-11. This is the first observation that the bulky organic solvent molecules are included in the organic structure-directing agents occupied microporous aluminophosphate molecular sieves. The solvent molecules may act as a co-structure-directing agent in the formation of AlPO4-11 under solvothermal conditions.
Molecular dynamic study of the templating abilities of organic amines in 2D layered aluminophosphates with Al3P4O163- stoichiometry

Abstract:The templating abilities of various organic amines in the formation of 2D layered aluminophosphates with Al3P4O163- stoichiometry were investigated by the combination of molecular dynamics simulation and the rapid Monte Carlo approaches. In terms of the host-guest non-bonding interaction energies (including VDW energy, H-bond energy and Coulomb energy), some experimental phenomena can be well,explained, and some suitable templates for a given inorganic layers can also be predicted. By choosing the theoretically predicted organic amine as template, a new 2D layered aluminophosphate, Al(3)P4O(16) . 1. 5H(3)NC(6)H(10)NH(3), was synthesized successfully under solvothermal conditions. This work will further assist the rational synthesis of layered and microporous materials.
Studies on preparing molecular sieves AIPO4-5 and AIPO4-11 by the vapour phase method

Abstract:It was reported that gel HF Al2O3 P2O-H2O transformed into molecular sieves AlPO4-5 and AlPO4-11 in vapour phase of amines-H2O mixtures. In this paper, the influences of different types of acids and amines, the F-/Al2O3 ratios and the H2O/amine ratios for preparing pure phase molecular sieves AlPO4-5 and AlPO4-11 have been studied. The experiments have demonstrated that coordination of F anion to Al is one of the key factors for preparing molecular sieves AlPO4-5 and AIPO4-11 By means of the vapour phase method, molecular sieves AlPO4-5 and AlPO4-11 can be prepared either in the vapour system of Et3N-H2O or in the vapour system of n-Pr2NH-H2O, only if the HF in the system is in a suitable amount. Synthesized samples were characterized by XRD, SEM and FT-IR. The data show that the synthesized samples have typical physical chemical properties of molecular sieve AlPO4-n.
Synthesis and Characterization of an Unusual Lamellar Aluminophosphate Synthesized from an Alcohol System

Abstract:An unusual lamellar aluminophosphate [Al4P2O11. 2C(6)H(13)NH(2) . 4H(2)O]. 3H(2)O was synthesized from a mixture of H3PO4, Al(OPri)(3), ethylene glycol and an unbranched primary alcohol. It was characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, infrared, magic angle spinning NMR spectroscopy, differential thermal and thermogravimetric analysis. It is composed of PO4, AlO4 and AlO6 structural units, and the ratio of octahedral to tetrahedral Al in the as-synthesized compound is about 1:1. This material exhibits a very large weight loss at elevated temperatures. Upon dehydration it possesses a considerable water adsorption capacity. The water adsorption isotherm is linear. Of the seven water molecules in the empirical formula, four are co-ordinated to the Al atoms and the other three are located between adjacent layers.

Abstract:Ordered large-pore (up to 12 nm) and stable mesoporous aluminophosphates (AlPO) have been synthesized by using block copolymer (EO106PO70EO106, Pluronic F127) as a structure-directing agent. The selection of inorganic precursors is based on an “acid–base pair” route. Three acid–base pair, including AlCl3/H3PO4, AlCl3/OP(OCH3)3 and Al(OC4H9)3/PCl3 are confirmed to be efficient for the assembly of periodic mesoporous frameworks. Ordered 2-D hexagonal mesoporous aluminophosphates can be obtained by using AlCl3/H3PO4 as precursors, while disordered mesoporous aluminophosphates are produced by using AlCl3/OP(OCH3)3 or Al(OC4H9)3/PCl3 as precursors. BET surface areas and pore sizes of the products vary from 261 to 115 m2/g and from 9.4 to 12 nm, respectively. The solution and solid state 27Al and 31P MAS NMR were used to characterize the chemical environment of aluminium and phosphorus before and after the formation of mesostructured AlPO products, which simultaneously allows us to evaluate the efficiency of inorganic–inorganic (I–I) interactions (Al–O–P) of different acid–base pair. Both 27Al and 31P MAS NMR results show that among the three acid–base pair, AlCl3/H3PO4 pair interacts more readily with each other than the other two pairs [AlCl3/OP(OCH3)3, Al(OC4H9)3/PCl3], and tends to form rigid framework before calcination. The detailed structural characterizations reveal that strong I–I interactions (Al–O–P) between inorganic precursors will lead to a final mesoporous material with high structure regularity. This method can also be applied to synthesize iron-incorporated aluminophosphate (FeAlPO) with highly ordered 2-D hexagonal structure. BET surface area and pore size of FeAlPO prepared with Fe/Al=0.1 (molar ratio) are 181 m2/g and 8.9 nm, respectively. Electron spin resonance (ESR) and UV–vis spectra were employed to characterize the chemical state of Fe3+ ion.
Tetramethylguanidine-templated Synthesis of Aluminophosphate-Based Microporous Crystals with AFI-type Structure

Abstract:Crystalline microporous aluminophosphates with AFI-type structure have been hydrothermally synthesized by the use of low-cost and biological template of tetramethylguanidine (TMG), which were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron micrograph (SEM), nitrogen isotherms, infrared, elemental analysis, thermogravimetry (TG), temperature-programmed desorption of NH3 (TPD-NH3), and photoluminescent (PL) techniques. XRD experiments show that TMG-templated synthesis has high crystallization rate, compared with conventional organic template of triethylamine. Observation of SEM images indicates that the crystalline aluminophosphate products are spheres ranged in 5–30μm. The results obtained from nitrogen isotherms show that these spherical particles of AlPO-5 crystals have mesoporosity, which are due to the presence of intercrystalline voids. The formation of hierarchical mesoporous and microporous crystalline spheres would be favorable for mass transport in catalysis and adsorption, compared with the small and sole microporous crystals. The combination of infrared, TG, and elemental analysis indicates that there are about 1.4 TMG molecules per unit cell of AlPO-5. Furthermore, TMG-templated synthesis are extended to prepare heteroatom-substituted AlPO-5 crystals such as SAPO-5, MnAPO-5, and CoAPO-5, and acidic measurements of TPD-NH3 show the order of sample acidity is as follows: CoAPO-5>MnAPO-5>SAPO-5≫AlPO-5. The determination of PL shows that as-synthesized AlPO-5 templated by TMG has 38 nm red-shift for emission peak, compared with TMG liquid. Importantly, in this work, the use of TMG might open a door to use the guanidine-type compounds as templates for “green” preparation of aluminophosphate-based microporous crystals in the future.

Abstract:The suitable organic templates for the formation of 3-D interrupted open-framework aluminophosphate can be predicted in terms of nonbonding interaction energies of host-guest through molecular dynamics simulations by Cerius(2). The prediction is well proven by the successful syntheses of Al14P5O19(OH).C5N2H16 (1) and Al4P5O19(OH).C4N3H15 (2) through rational selection of 1,5-pentanediamine and diethylenetriamine template molecules based on energy calculations. The structures of 1 and 2 are anionic A(14)P(5)O(19)(OH)(2-) open-frameworks, which are analogous to Al4P5O20H .C6H18N2 (AlPO-HDA) with 12- and 8-membered ring intersecting channels. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis shows that 1 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 with lattice parameters a = 9.450(9) Angstrom, b = 12.688(2) Angstrom, c = 5.0657(5) Angstrom, a = 96.02(1)degrees, beta = 105.89(1)degrees, and gamma = 102.88(1)degrees. The assynthesized compound 2 is characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, ICP, MAS NMR, and TG analyses. It has an empirical formula of Al4P5O19(OH).C4N3H15 and possesses the same open-framework structure as AlPO-HDA.

Abstract:A better understanding of the relationship between the synthetic factors and the resulting structures is of great importance to rationalizing the synthesis of the target zeolitic materials. We present a computational study for predicting the formation of (6,12)-ring-containing microporous aluminophosphates (AlPOs), using a data classification approach. Through analyses of a database of AlPO synthesis with ca. 1600 reaction data, we identified a number of synthetic parameters such as three gel molar ratios of Al2O3, P2O5 and the organic amine template, as well as eleven parameters associated with the geometric and electronic characteristics of the templates deemed to be useful in distinguishing (6,12)-ring-containing AlPOs from the other AlPOs. Using these parameters, we have trained a support vector machine (SVM)-based classifier on a training dataset containing 360 (6,12)-ring-containing AlPOs and 1069 AlPOs without such rings. Analysis results revealed that the geometric size of the organic template, particularly the second longest distance of the template along with the gel molar ratios, has good predictive power for microporous aluminophosphates containing (6,12)-rings. This work demonstrates the general feasibility in establishing a relationship between the synthetic parameters and the structural features of the synthesized microporous materials, providing a useful guidance to the rational design and synthesis of such materials as well as other inorganic crystalline materials.

Abstract:AlPO4-11 nanocrystals, 0.05×0.08μm in size, were synthesized by optimizing the following chemical parameters: the crystallization temperature and time, the H2O content, the molar ratio of phosphorus to organic template (P2O5/R), and the HF content. The products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope. AlPO4-11 nanocrystals could not be obtained by optimizing only the crystallization temperature, time and the water content, but obtained by optimizing the molar ratio of P2O5/R, the organic template, and the HF content.
