Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the application of multiple scan modes in 128-slice dual-source CT coronary angiography.Methods: 603 patients of chest pain and chest tightness with heart rate ≤65bpm were examined by CT coronary angiography.186 patients were examined using the prospective ECG-gated flash spiral(FS) mode;102 patients were examined using the prospectively ECG-gated sequence(S) mode;315 patients were examined using the retrospective ECG-gated low-pith spiral(LS) mode,in which 45 cases had arrhythmia.The radiation dose of three modes was used for analysis of variance.The radiation dose was compared between the group of normal cardiac rhythm and the group of arrhythmia.Results: The percentage of diagnosable segments was similar with 99.4% for FS mode,99.5% for S mode and 99.2% for LS mode,but there was significant difference among three modes in radiation dose with(0.91±0.05) mSv for FS mode and(5.48±0.95) mSv for S mode and(9.19±3.00) mSv for LS mode(P0.01).There were 270 patients of normal cardiac rhythm and 45 patients of arrhythmia in LS mode scanning,and there was significant difference in radiation dose with(8.45±2.44) mSv for the group of normal cardiac rhythm and(13.62±2.09) mSv for the group of arrhythmia(t=-13.428,P0.01).Conclusion: The three modes(FS,S and LS) of 128-slice dual-source CT coronary angiography can obtain good image quality,but the radiation dose of FS mode were further significantly lower compared with S mode and LS mode.FS mode is an effective means to achieve low radiation dose for CT coronary angiography.Different scanning modes should be used according to the heart rate and rhythm of the patients to enable scan optimization.

Abstract:Objective To discuss the construction and principal of dual-source CT,as well as its superiorities in imaging of heart coronary artery and the clinical application of dual energy technique.Methods The structure of Siemens 64-slice CT was analyzed.The superiorities of dual-source CT in imaging of heart coronary artery were compared with conventional multi-slice CT,and the clinical value of dual energy technique was discussed.Results The dual-source computed tomography had high temporal resolution superiority,and high quality coronary artery CT angiography could be acquired without heart rate control.Dual energy technique could be applied to differentiate tissue component,display given tissue,evaluate the content of iodine in tissue.Conclusion Dual-source CT can not only enhance the diagnosis veracity of pathological changes of heart coronary artery but improve the ability of CT in tissue differentiation.

Abstract:Dual-source CT is a revolution in medical imaging that marks a new epoch of the development of computer tomography.The key technology of Dual-source CT includes Straton metal X-ray tube with zero-million Hu,electromagnetic direct drive techniques,mute scanning techniques,correction technique of special scattered X-ray,reconstruction techniques and special X-ray dose control techniques,especially for X-ray dose control techniques by ECG-gated.Dual-source CT is composed of two data acquisition systems mounted onto the roaring gantry with an angular offset of 90°,which has to rotate only 90° to accomplish data gathering,with temporal resolution of 83 ms.It yields high-quality images of the coronary artery however the heart rate may be.Besides,the special dual energy technique could do so many things,such as removing bones and calcification,evaluating blood perfusion of tissues,identifying composition of tissues,and displaying ligaments and cartilage.
Clinical eraluation of dual-source CT enterography using dual-energy rirtual non-enhanced technique

Abstract:Objectire:To investigate the clinical feasibility of dual-source CT enterography using dual-energy virtual non-enhanced CT (VNCT)technique.Methods:CT enterography were performed in 39 patients with dual source CT scan-ner,including conventional non-enhanced CT scan (CNCT),arterial and venous phase contrast-enhanced CT scan (CECT) with dual energy mode (100kVp/230mAs and 140kVp/178mAs).VNCT images of arterial and venous phase were obtained after being post-processed with Liver-VNC software.Using CNCT as a standard,the image quality of VNCT images were evaluated and scored with 1~4 grade scoring system (the higher score indicated better image quality:4 scores means per-fect,1 score means unsatisfactory for diagnosis).The radiation dose of CNCT,arterial and venous phase CECT was com-pared.Results:Of 39 patients,there were 25 cases with lesions and 14 cases of normal.Compared with CNCT images,all the lesions were also detected accurately by VNCT images,and there was no significant difference of size and extent of lesions between CNCT and VNCT.The scores of VNCT images were all higher than 2,there was no significant statistic difference between the score of two doctors,and the image quality of VNCT images met the requirement of diagnosis.The average dose length product (DLP)of conventional non-enhanced CT,arterial and venous phase CECT were (283.8750±57.1195), (289.3750±53.1543 )and (301.2917 ± 55.3346 )mGy · cm respectively,with no statistic difference (F = 0.615,P =0.544).Conclusion:Dual energy CT virtual non-enhanced images may replace true non-enhanced images in CT enterography and then can reduce radiation dose of examination.

Abstract:In recent years,the incidence of coronary artery disease in China has tended to increase.Early screening of patients with coronary artery disease may lead to the appropriate therapeutic intervention and reduce the incidence of serious adverse cardiac events.Nowadays,the common diagnostic imaging methods include invasive coronary angiography,echocardiography,multi-slice spiral CT,radionuclide imaging and magnetic resonance imaging.With the rapid development of CT imaging technology,in addition to coronary angiography,dual-source CT can conduct stress myocardial perfusion imaging.This "one-stop" examination can obtain coronary anatomical features and myocardial hemodynamic change at the same time,which provides the basis for proper clinical intervention.The research progress of clinical application of dual-source CT myocardial perfusion imaging is reviewed in this paper.

Abstract:Objective CT quality control method is mainly to monophyletic CT at present.The aim of this study was to investigate the quality control methods for 64-slice CT through analyzing the quality control protocol in Siemens dual-source 64-slice CT scanner in routine work.Methods Slice thickness,spatial resolution,density resolution,CT value linearity,field uniformity,noise and CT dose index of dual-source 64-slice CT scanner were measured with a Catphan500 CT phantom(made by American phantom laboratory) and a Barracuda multi-functional X-ray detector(made in Switzerland).All statistical analysis was performed with SPSS 21.0 software.Results The radiation dose was in the normal range(F=34.362,P<0.05),the conventional algorithm under spatial resolution was 8-9 LP/cm,and the density resolution was 3@0.5%-3@0.3%.CT liner was 1.56E-0.4 to 1.68E-0.4,homogenity was 2.0 Hu,and noise was 0.19-0.39.The results measured in the research were in the normal range.All the indicators of the dual-source CT were qualified.Conclusion The detection parameters of CT images,such as the noise,linear,contrast resolution,can effectively guarantee the optimal system performance and maintain the good image quality.The detection of CT dose can help to timely understand the dangerous levels of radiation,optimize the scanning and scheme,and reduce the dose on the premise of guarantee the diagnosis.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the principle and its clinical initial application of the dual-energy imaging with the dual-source CT and increase the realization of it. Methods According to the research results of the dual-energy imaging with the dual-source CT and the course of development of the dual-energy imaging to analyze and summarize the basis radiological physics, the principles, the correlation parameters and the clinical initial application of the dual -energy imaging with the dual -source CT. Results The dual -energy imaging with the dual -source CT is different from other common dual-energy imaging, it has its own special feature. Conclusion According to the analysis of the dual-energy imaging with the dual-source CT, greatly increase the realization of the dual-energy imaging with the dual-source CT.

Abstract:Objective In coronary angiography by Dual-source Computer Tomography(DSCT), the principle, steps and notice are investigated and the technical characteristics and the general process are summarized. Methods The technical characteristics and the general process of DSCT coronary angiography are summarized by reviewing the course of patients who do DSCT coronary angiography in the year 2007 in our department. Results The whole workflow of DSCT coronary angiography contains the preparation before the scan, the scan, the patients' care after the scan and the images reconstruction. There also be other things shoulder be paid attention to. Conclusion DSCT coronary angiography must only follow certain principles can maximize the inspection of its greatest advantages.

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinical values of the Dual-source computed tomography for diagnosis and treatment in maxillofacial fractures.Methods 51 cases of maxillofacial fractures were examined with Dual-source computed tomography and then the images were taken with multi-planar reformats and volume rendering technique on work-station.Results 2 cases of the 51 patients were eliminated maxillofacial fractures by DSCT examine,and the images of the 49 patients are consistent with the expressions which in the operations.Conclusion Dual-source CT can be provided with characteristic of ultrafast speed scan and clear images.Three-dimensional CT images were obtained from circumgyration and incision at will on work-station.Pathological changes could be observed from many projection in 3D images.Dual-source CT can offer a lot of information for constitution plan of treatment.Dual-source CT is a valuable method in diagnosis and treatment of facial fractures,and the combination of 2D-CT and 3D-CT would be the best demonstration.

Abstract:双源CT(dual-source CT,DSCT)于2005年在北美放射学年会(RsNA)上推出,它使用2套X线管和2套探测器,2套采集系统呈90°安装,机架旋转90°即可获得180°数据,时间分辨率比单源CT快1倍,心脏扫描时单扇区时间分辨率达83 ms,而且空间分辨率为亚毫米、扫描时间短于10s,满足了需要高质量冠状动脉CT成像的要求,开辟了冠状动脉无创性成像的新纪元,已进入常的临床应用中,在有选择性的者中可代替有创性的冠状动脉造影检查,拓宽了CT在心脏和血管疾病方面的临床应用范围。

Abstract:Tomography with coincidence is composed of variable-angle dual and /or triple-head SPECT system, coincidence detection circuit and attenuation correction (AC). The imaging principles of coincidence detection (CD) without bulky and cumbersome lead-collimator detected two 511keV gamma photons (180 o direction) in annihilation by use of coincidence detection techniques, and acquired various parameters and section imaging to diagnose in the small lesion qualitatively and quantitatively through computer processing and reconstruction. The clinical application value and the imaging quality obtained from CD have been already confirmed. It is no doubt for propelling the development of our national positron imaging working to possess very important significance. In this paper, we describe the principle, properties and clinical application of dual and/or triple-head tomography with coincidence, one of the nuclear medicine imaging instruments, which has been recently widely used in our country.

Abstract:Dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) simultaneously acquires images at two X-ray energy levels, at both high- and low-peak voltages (kVp). The material attenuation difference obtained from the two X-ray energies can be processed by software to analyze material decomposition and to create additional image datasets, namely, virtual noncontrast, virtual contrast also known as iodine overlay, and bone/calcium subtraction images. DECT has a vast array of clinical applications in imaging cerebrovascular diseases, which includes: (1) Identification of active extravasation of iodinated contrast in various types of intracranial hemorrhage; (2) differentiation between hemorrhagic transformation and iodine staining in acute ischemic stroke following diagnostic and/or therapeutic catheter angiography; (3) identification of culprit lesions in intra-axial hemorrhage; (4) calcium subtraction from atheromatous plaque for the assessment of plaque morphology and improved quantification of luminal stenosis; (5) bone subtraction to improve the depiction of vascular anatomy with more clarity, especially at the skull base; (6) metal artifact reduction utilizing virtual monoenergetic reconstructions for improved luminal assessment postaneurysm coiling or clipping. We discuss the physical principles of DECT and review the clinical applications of DECT for the evaluation of cerebrovascular diseases.

Abstract:Current medical CTs obtain projection data at different angles by rotating the gantry. However, the gantry rotation introduces vibrations, which cause the blurring of the reconstruction images. Moreover, the limited speed of the gantry rotation limits the possibility of shorter scan time, which makes the clear cardiac imaging difficult. In order to solve the above problems, the multi-sources static CT system is proposed. Instead of rotating the gantry that mounted with the source and detectors, the static CT system uses three line-array sources to avoid any movement during the scan. A Monte Carlo dual-energy thorax CT simulation based on this static CT system is performed. The dual-energy reconstruction and material decomposition results are represented. The good imaging results verify the feasibility of the proposed static CT system. The potential problems and limits of the static CT as well as the further researches are discussed.

Abstract:Dual-energy CT has remained underutilized over the past decade probably due to a cumbersome workflow issue and current technical limitations. Clinical radiologists should be made aware of the potential clinical benefits of dual-energy CT over single-energy CT. To accomplish this aim, the basic principle, current acquisition methods with advantages and disadvantages, and various material-specific imaging methods as clinical applications of dual-energy CT should be addressed in detail. Current dual-energy CT acquisition methods include dual tubes with or without beam filtration, rapid voltage switching, dual-layer detector, split filter technique, and sequential scanning. Dual-energy material-specific imaging methods include virtual monoenergetic or monochromatic imaging, effective atomic number map, virtual non-contrast or unenhanced imaging, virtual non-calcium imaging, iodine map, inhaled xenon map, uric acid imaging, automatic bone removal, and lung vessels analysis. In this review, we focus on dual-energy CT imaging including related issues of radiation exposure to patients, scanning and post-processing options, and potential clinical benefits mainly to improve the understanding of clinical radiologists and thus, expand the clinical use of dual-energy CT; in addition, we briefly describe the current technical limitations of dual-energy CT and the current developments of photon-counting detector.

Abstract:Objective To analyze and discuss how the scanning parameters influence the quality of dual source CT(DSCT) images by the various settings and the corresponding scans.Methods Testees were scanned with corresponding settings of scanning parameters in SOMATOM Definition DSCT produced by SIEMENS and then the results were analyzed and discussed.Results Parameters in relation with the quality of DSCT images could be influenced by the settings of corresponding scanning parameters.Conclusion The settings of scanning parameters have close relationship with the quality of DSCT images,and sometimes one kind of setting can improve image quality in one field but depress image quality in another field,so all factors should be considered synthetically.[Chinese Medical Equipment Journal,2008,29(2):102-104]

Abstract:双能量CT(dual energy CT,DECT)是利用具有2种能谱的CT数据以显示解剖和病变,鉴别组织成分的技术.不同的硬件设备可以进行DECT成像,如双源CT、单源CT快速千伏切换技术及\"三明治\"式探测器技术[1-2].双源CT机架内安装了2套X线管和探测器系统,2个X线管同时以相同管电压条件运行时即为双源CT,主要用于高时间分辨率的心脏成像;若以不同管电压运行则可进行DECT成像.近年来利用双源CT进行的胸部DECT研究取得了较多的临床经验[3].尽管目前对其应用前景还难做定论,但已体现出重要的临床价值.笔者主要根据第1代双源CT发表的DECT的文献,综述其基本原理及在胸部的应用。

Abstract:Objective To investigate the principle for selection of 64-slice spiral DSCT neck CTA program.Methods Eighty patients undergoing neck CTA were divided into two groups of A and B equally,of which,group A went through DS-CTA and group B through DE-CTA.Then the scanning data were transmitted to the workstation for post operation and evaluation.Results Averagely,the scanning period of group B was 67% shorter than that of group A,and the radiation dose of the former 21% less than that of the latter,while there was significant difference between the two groups in the aspects of post-operation period and image quality with P more than 0.05.Conclusion Selection of 64-slice spiral DSCT scanning program has to be based on the condition of the patient.

Abstract:Unlike large-scale and expensive synchrotron radiation facilities, the Thomson scattering X-ray source can provide quasi-monochromatic, energy-tunable and high-brightness X-ray pulses with a small footprint and moderate cost, making it an excellent candidate for dual-energy and multi-energy imaging at laboratories and hospitals. Here, the first feasibility study on dual-energy computed tomography (CT) based on this type of light source is reported, and the effective atomic number and electron-density distribution of a standard phantom consisting of polytetrafluoroethylene, water and aluminium is derived. The experiment was carried out at the Tsinghua Thomson scattering X-ray source with peak energies of 29keV and 68keV. Both the reconstructed effective atomic numbers and the retrieved electron densities of the three materials were compared with their theoretical values. It was found that these values were in agreement by 0.68% and 2.60% on average for effective atomic number and electron density, respectively. These results have verified the feasibility of dual-energy CT based on the Thomson scattering X-ray source and will further expand the scope of X-ray imaging using this type of light source.
