Association of P213S polymorphism of L-selectin gene with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Dongxiang nationality of Gansu Province

Abstract:Objective To investigate the L-selectin gene polymorphism in Dongxiang nationality of Gansu Province and its association with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods Genotype of L-selectin was determined in 116 patients with T2DM and 126 healthy controls by polymerase chain reaction-ligase dection reaction(PCR-LDR) technique.Plasma glucose,insulin,lipid,creatinine and urea nitrogen levels were measured by biochemical technique.Results L-selectin genotype frequencies of PP,PS,SS were 44.8%,48.3%,6.9% in T2DM group and 38.1%,44.4%,17.5% in control group respectively,and allele frequencies of P,S were 69.0%,31.0% in T2DM group and 60.3%,39.7% in control group respectively.There were significant differences in frequencies of allele and genotype in L-selectin P213S polymorphism between T2DM and control group(both P<0.05).The relative risk of P allele suffered from T2DM was 1.462 times of the S allele(OR=1.462,95% CI=1.005-2.127).Conclusion L-selectin P213S polymorphism is associated with T2DM in Gansu Dongxiang nationality,and P allele appears to be a risk factor for T2DM.
