US’operation mode and managerial experience of shale gas exploitation

Abstract:The exploration and exploitation of shale gas differs greatly from conventional gas in terms of its characteristics and modes.Wells are to be steadily drilled for continuous production to bring about scale effect before stable investment returns can be achieved. The development of shale gas in the US has unique characteristics: at the early stage, it is promoted by independent oil & gas producers, then large oil & gas companies actively participate to facilitate the development of the shale gas industry towards a larger scale; many active enterprises conducting merger and acquisition in every shale gas block; the specialization and collaboration of technical service companies, and the participation by many sides jointly enhances the exploitation of shale gas. But the soft and hard environment for shale gas exploitation in the US is hardly reproducible in China; core technology is definitely not available by investing in the US or establishing joint ventures.With the advantage in shale gas exploitation, China should first learn the advanced operational experience and management modes of the US, and then apply them, and make innovations to speed up the exploitation and utilization of shale gas in China.
