Abstract:A highly efficient and environmentally friendly method for catalytic benzylation/allylation of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds with alcohols has been developed by using Yb(OTf)3 as a catalyst. The reactions proceed smoothly to give the desired products in moderate to excellent yields, mostly at room temperature. The catalyst can be recovered and reused at least six times without visible loss of catalytic activity for such reactions.

Abstract:An efficient and highly selective Yb(OTf3)-catalyzed direct substitution of the hydroxy group at the allylic and propargylic positions with a variety of heteroatom- and carbon-centered nucleophiles, such as alcohols, thiols, amines, amides and active methylene compounds has been developed. The advantages of the present catalytic system are wide availability of the starting materials, especially for tolerance to thiols, no need for dried solvents and additives, mild conditions, short time of reaction, simple manipulation and environmentally friendly catalyst that can be recovered and reused at least ten times without significant reduction of activity.

Abstract:O,O'-Diethyl acetals were prepared in high yields under mild conditions via the reaction of triethyl orthoformate with aldehydes and ketones in absolute ethanol in the presence of as low as 0.1 mol% of Yb(OTf)(3). Using the same catalyst in THF-H2O, these O,O'-diethyl acetals could be converted to the corresponding carbonyl compounds efficiently. This new protection-deprotection protocol presents the advantages of ease of execution, high efficiency and good chemoselectivity.

Abstract:A three‐component allylic alkylation reaction of α‐diazo ketones, water and allyl carbonate under the cooperative catalysis of Rh2(OAc)4, Pd2(dba)3 and Brønster acid was disclosed. This method provids an expeditious access to α‐keto homoallylic alcohols in good to high yields. Controlled experiments support that the transformations proceed through cross‐interception of two active intermediates Pd‐allyl species and enol intermediates derived from oxonium ylides. Moreover, synthetic transformations of the generated products enable the creation of motifs enriched with dense functional groups, underscoring their potential as valuable building blocks.

Abstract:A metal-free 1,4-allylation of azadienes with allyltrimethylsilanes catalyzed by B(C6F5)(3) has been developed. The high Lewis acidity, good thermal stability, and good hydrolytic stability of the catalyst make this reaction efficient and operationally simple. In contrast to the previously reported 1,2-allylation of alpha,beta-unsaturated imines, the 1,4-allylation of azadienes is described here for the first time. Benzofuran-, indene-, dihydronaphthalene-, chromene-, and benzothiophene-based allyl arylmethanes have been obtained in up to 95 % yield.

Abstract:A range of ketone-stabilized phosphonium ylides were allylated with high regioselectivity by primary allylic amines in the presence of 5 mol % Pd(PPh3)4 and 10 mol % B(OH)3, and subsequent one-pot Wittig olefination gave structurally diverse α,β-unsaturated ketones in good to excellent overall yields with excellent E selectivity. The one-pot allylation/olefination reaction was extended to ester- and nitrile-stabilized phosphonium ylides by replacing B(OH)3 with TsOH, and the corresponding α,β-unsaturated esters and nitriles were obtained in moderate overall yields.

Abstract:A novel efficient HFIP-catalyzed synthesis of structurally diverse 2,2-difluoro-3-hydroxy-1,4-diketone derivatives from readily available glyoxal monohydrates and difluoroenoxysilanes is described. This convenient protocol is induced by the distinctive fluorine effect of the reactants and the fluoroalcohol catalyst, which represents the first application of fluoroalcohol catalysis in a Mukaiyama aldol reaction.

Abstract:The novel efficient procedure has been developed for the oxathioacetalization of carbonyl compounds and 2-mercaptoethanol at room temperature under solvent-free condition. The results showed that the novel multi-SO 3 H functionalized ionic liquid was very efficient for the reactions with the good to excellent yields in short time. Operational simplicity, without need of any solvent, room temperature, low cost of the catalyst used, high yields, applicability to large-scale reactions, reusability and chemoselectivity are the key features of this methodology.

Abstract:An exclusive anti‐Markovnikov hydroamination as well as hydroalkoxylation of allylic alcohols catalyzed by a simple catalyst Y(CH2SiMe3)3(THF)2 has been developed, providing a variety of γ‐amino and γ‐alkoxy alcohols in good yields under mild conditions. Moreover, this protocol is applied to the synthesis of drug molecules Propipocaine and Proroxan. The rare‐earth catalyst features readily available, wide substrate compatability, exclusive anti‐Markovnikov selectivity, and performs in the absence of a base or an additive.

Abstract:A simple and direct α-allylic alkylation of unmodified aldehydes with allylic alcohols catalyzed by primary amine/Br⊘nsted acid has been developed. The N,N-dimethylethylenediamine/TfOH was identified as the optimal catalyst to promote this transformation via an enamine process in high yields (up to 88%) and with good diastereoselectivities (up to 9:1).

Abstract:Hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP)-catalyzed direct dehydroxydifluoro-alkylation of benzylic and allylic alcohols with difluoroenoxysilanes is developed. This procedure enables the synthesis of a broad range of alpha,alpha-difluoroketones, a class of highly valuable intermediates and building blocks in medicinal and organic chemistry. Here, we have demonstrated for the first time that HFIP could act as a powerful catalyst for fluorinated carbon-carbon bond formation. The application of this protocol in late-stage dehydroxydifluoroalkylation of potentially bioactive drugs and natural products has also been carried out.

Abstract:Radical-initiated allylation reactions represent a powerful tool for installation on a synthetically useful allyl group for further transformations. In this field, direct allylation of C-H bonds has received considerable attentions due to its more atom-efficient and environmental benign potential. Despite these advances, these strategies still have some limitations, such as utilization of stoichiometric HAT reagents and excessive amount of C-H substrates, incompatibility with aldehydic C(sp2)-H bonds, relaying on the dual catalysis or multiple steps. Herein, a one-step protocol for desulfonylative allylation of C-H bonds of aldehydes and alkanes with allyl sulfones using TBADT as photo-hydrogen atom transfer catalyst is reported. This methodology requires only a single equivalent of C-H substrates and has been applied for the allylation of aldehydic C(sp2)-H, activated or unactivated aliphatic C(sp3)-H with good functional group tolerance. Moreover, this methodology exhibites further potential application for diacrylation of allylic sulfones by slightly adjusting the ratio of reactants, presenting a direct and facile access to the highly substituted 1,5-diketones in good to high yields.

Abstract:The McMurry-type olefinations have become a powerful tool in organic synthesis. However, the use of stoichiometric amounts of unmanageable Ti species and the generation of a large amount of salts limit their applications on the industrial scale. This paper outlines a simple and practical catalytic electron transfer (ET) system composed of TiCl4 and Yb, which turned out to be effective for homo-and cross-deoxygenative coupling of aldehydes and ketones. Specifically, the method is based upon the strategy that the low valent Ti species abstracts oxygen from carbonyl and delivers them to highly oxophilic Yb in an unprecedented manner. Remarkably, the present process is operationally simple, minimizes the generation of chemical waste, and makes the only by-product Yb2O3 as a solid easily removed and utilized; furthermore, the yield improved significantly of that obtained in the stoichiometric version in our system. Our mechanistic data not only provide the direct evidence that Ti(IV) can facilitate the part deoxygenation of pinacol at room temperature, but also demonstrate, for the first time, that for bulky ketones the turnover- limiting step is the Ti-mediated carbonyl coupling rather than the subsequent deoxygenation of the resulting pinacolate intermediates, which are different from the previous observations.

Abstract:A three‐component strategy for the synthesis of β‐perfluoroalkyl allyl alcohols from 1,3‐dienes is developed. A diverse range of synthetically valuable β‐perfluoroalkyl allyl alcohols are obtained in moderate to high yields. Broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance are observed. This method is also applicable to mono‐olefins and 1,3‐enynes. The control experiment results demonstrate that the hydroxyl group OH in the product comes from TBHP. In addition, the practicality and mild reaction conditions make these synthetic transformations attractive and valuable for organic synthesis.

Abstract:A novel FeCl3·6H2O-catalyzed tandem Friedel–Crafts alkylation–hydrolysis reaction between chain α-oxo ketene dithioacetals and alcohols to afford α-alkylated β-oxo thioesters has been successfully developed. The reaction is efficient in the presence of catalyst loading as low as 30 mol% in MeCN at room temperature, and a wide variety of α-alkylated β-oxo thioesters are efficiently synthesized in good yields.
