Abstract:In this paper, we consider global adaptive output-feedback control of nonlinear systems in output-feedback form, without a priori knowledge of system nonlinearities. Our proposed adaptive controller is a high-gain linear controller (since we have no knowledge on system nonlinearities), with the high-gain parameter tuned online via a switching logic. Global stability results of the closed-loop system have been proved.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose for the first time a decentralized adaptive control scheme without requiring a priori information on subsystem high-frequency-gain signs. This is achieved by introducing Nussbaum-type functions in local adaptive controllers, and developing a neu analysis approach which is quite different from the conventional one used in centralized adaptive control involving a Nussbaum-type function. With the help of integrator backstepping, the decentralized control scheme can also be applied to high-relative-degree systems. The results of this paper enlarge the class of uncertain large-scale systems for which decentralized adaptive control can be designed.

Abstract:The decentralized output feedback control problem for a class of large-scale interconnected nonlinear systems is considered. The nonlinear interconnection Junction of each subsystem is assumed to satisfy a quadratic constraint on the entire state of the large-scale system. A decentralized estimated state feedback controller and a decentralized observer are designed for each subsystem. Sufficient conditions, for each subsystem, under which the proposed controller and observer can achieve exponential stabilization of the overall large-scale system are developed. Simulation results on a numerical example are given to verify the proposed design.

Abstract:This paper studies robust output regulation problem for a class of nonlinear systems with uncertain nonlinearities. The nonlinear system is driven by a linear, neutrally stable exosystem containing unknown parameters. Firstly, solutions to regulator equation and a canonical internal model are proposed to convert the output regulation problem to stabilization problem. Then, a robust control algorithm is designed to stabilize the close-loop system and the adaptive internal model part is presented with stabilization input items and exosystem information. The control scheme regulates the error signal to arbitrarily prescribed small neighborhood of the origin while maintaining overall signals uniform ultimate boundedness. A simulation example demonstrates the effectiveness of the designed method.

Abstract:This paper considers the robust output regulation problem for a class of nonlinear systems, not detectable by the regulated output. Differently from the previous results on the subject, it is supposed that the considered class of systems is in the normal form not defined on the conventional regulated output. We propose a novel internal model structure that, joined to a high-gain stabilizing action, solves the output regulation problem robustly with respect to possible uncertainties affecting the systems.

Abstract:This paper focuses on the large-scale stochastic nonlinear systems with bounded uncertainties in the strict-feedback form. The interconnections are bounded by strong nonlinear functions. The problem we address is to design a decentralized adaptive controller such that the closed-loop, large-scale, interconnected stochastic nonlinear system with bounded uncertainties is globally stable in probability. It is shown that the decentralized global stabilization via output feedback can be solved by a Lyapunov-based recursive design method.

Abstract:Recently, the global robust output regulation problem for nonlinear time-varying systems is considered under the assumption that the exosystem is exactly known. This paper further considers the the case where the time-varying exosystem is unknown. Conditions are given under which the problem can be converted into an adaptive stabilization problem of an augmented time-varying nonlinear system. The problem is solved for a class of time-varying output feedback systems with a time-varying uncertain exosystem.

Abstract:In this paper we deal with the problem of adaptive output regulation for a class of uncertain hybrid linear systems whose state jumps periodically according to a known clock. The goal is to present a design methodology for internal model-based hybrid regulators in presence of hybrid exosystems that are unknown both in the flow dynamics and jump map, which are assumed to range in a finite set. The arguments used in this paper strongly rely on the ones recently presented in Cox et al. [2016] and, in particular, on the notion of visibility of the “hybrid steady-state generator”. The design methodology is then applied to the practical case of torque control of a DC-motor in presence of an uncontrolled rectifier.

Abstract:This paper presents the solvability conditions for the global robust output regulation problem for a class of output feedback systems with an uncertain exosystem by using output feedback control. An adaptive control technique is used to handle the unknown parameter vector in the exosystem. It is shown that this unknown parameter vector can be exactly estimated asymptotically if a controller containing a minimal internal model is employed. The effectiveness of our approach has been illustrated by an asymptotic tracking problem of a generalized fourth‐order Lorenz system. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Abstract:A dynamic error-feedback controller is presented for the synchronized output regulation of heterogenous linear networked systems, where only the leader node has the information of the regulated errors while the remaining follower nodes have the information of the relative output errors with respect to their in-neighboring nodes. By using the small-gain theorem, the sufficient criterion is developed for more general networks to judge whether the synchronized output regulation can be achieved under the designed controller. This criterion can be regarded as to impose an additional H∞ constraint on the classic output regulation problem. The synthesis problem is then addressed in terms of linear matrix inequality. The efficacy of the analytic results is illustrated by simulation examples.

Abstract:Based on adaptive nonlinear damping, a novel decentralized robust adaptive output feedback stabilization comprising a decentralized robust adaptive output feedback controller and a decentralized robust adaptive observer is proposed for a large-scale interconnected nonlinear system with general uncertainties, such as unknown nonlinear parameters, bounded disturbances, unknown nonlinearities, unmodeled dynamics, and unknown interconnections, which are nonlinear function of not only states and outputs but also unmodeled dynamics coming from other subsystems. In each subsystem, the proposed stabilization only has two adaptive parameters, and it is not needed to generate an additional dynamic signal or estimate the unknown parameters. Under certain assumptions, the proposed scheme guarantees that all the dynamic signals in the interconnected nonlinear system are bounded. Furthermore, the system states and estimate errors can approach arbitrarily small values by choosing the design parameters appropriately large. Finally, simulation results illustrated the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Abstract:This article concentrates on the global regulation problem for a class of large-scale nonlinear systems with unknown growth rate and unknown external disturbances. In contrast to closely related works, the highlight of this article is that a novel decentralized output-feedback switching control method is proposed for the first time to offset the serious uncertainties. By integrating logic-based switching technique and gain scaling technique, this method can instantly adjust the controller parameters (that is, the scaling gain can be tuned online in a piecewise constant manner), and thus has strong adaptive capability as well as disturbance tolerance. Moreover, the decentralized output-feedback switching controller designed by such the method has a concise linear-like form and low complexity. It is shown that the objective of global regulation is finally achieved after a finite number of switching moments. Finally, two examples, including an engineering feedback control system design example, are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control method.

Abstract:This paper discusses the optimal output regulation problem for nonlinear systems with a nonlinear exosystem. Adaptive dynamic programming and internal model principle are integrated to deal with this problem. The control scheme process is designed in the following two steps. In the first step, a nonlinear internal model is constructed to obtain the feedforward controller, which allows for the conversion of the output regulation problem into a stabilization problem. Compared with feedforward design approach, the common assumption that the exosystem is linear and neutral stable has been eliminated successfully. In the second step, the control cost is taken into account and the optimal feedback controller is learned through adaptive dynamic programming. After that, we demonstrate that the closed-loop system is uniformly ultimately bounded by the Lyapunov stability theory. As a distinctive feature, the proposed control framework can tolerate the nonlinear exosystem. Finally, the effectiveness of the control scheme is shown by a simulation example.

Abstract:In this paper, the problem of global state regulation by output feedback is investigated for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems satisfying some relaxed upper-triangular-type condition. Using a linear dynamic gain observer with two dynamic gains and introducing two appropriate change of coordinates, we give a constructive design procedure for the linear-like output feedback stabilizing controller. It is proved that the proposed controller globally regulates all the states of the uncertain system and maintains global boundedness of the closed-loop system. Abstract:This paper addresses the problem of decentralized global stabilization by output feedback for a class of uncertain large-scale nonlinear systems. A new design method based on the homogeneous domination approach and finite-time stabilization technique is developed, which leads to global output feedback stabilization for large-scale uncertain nonlinear systems under a homogeneous growth condition. Firstly, a homogeneous observer and controller is constructed for the nominal system without the perturbing nonlinearities for each subsystem. Then, a scaling gain is introduced into the homogeneous observers and controllers to globally stabilize the uncertain nonlinear systems.

Abstract:In this note, the problem of decentralized output feedback robust stabilization is studied for time-varying nonlinear large-scale systems, in which general interconnection and fully nonlinear nominal subsystems are both considered. The uncertainties dealt with in this note may be not only matched but also unmatched, and they may appear not only in interconnection but also in isolated subsystem. Then, a kind of continuous decentralized output feedback control to stabilize the system is proposed. Finally, simulation shows the effectiveness of our result.

Abstract:This paper revisits the global robust output regulation (GROR) problem of nonlinear output feedback systems with uncertain exosystems by error output feedback control. The problem was conventionally tackled by employing a linear canonical internal model and as a result, suitable adaptive stabilization has to be done for the augmented system to achieve output regulation. Distinguished from that, a novel nonlinear internal model approach is developed in the present study that successfully converts the GROR problem into a robust non-adaptive stabilization problem for the augmented system. The feature of the new approach is two-fold. On one hand, stabilization of augmented system is disentangled from any extra adaptive control law and thus the procedure is simplified. On the other hand, it leads to explicit strict Lyapunov characterization for the closed-loop system and consequently assures exponential parameter convergence.
