Abstract:Fiber optic communication is the primary communication method in large backbone power communication networks. The fiber optic network is carried on power communication optical cables, making the reliability of power communication optical cables greatly influence the communication service quality of the fiber optic network. When a fiber optic cable fault occurs, it is essential to detect and rectify it promptly. OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) is a commonly used tool for fiber optic cable fault detection. It is based on the backscattering fiber sensing technology and can measure the optical power curve that reflects the status of the fiber optic link. To determine whether a fiber optic cable has a fault and identify its location from the OTDR curve, analysis of the OTDR curve is necessary.This study focuses on event detection algorithms based on OTDR analysis and analyzes and verifies the two-point method and wavelet analysis method using Matlab. The two-point method locates events based on the slope changes in the curve, but it is susceptible to noise interference. On the other hand, the wavelet analysis method locates events based on the amplitude of the signal's high-frequency coefficients, offering higher positioning accuracy. The selection of wavelet basis and scale is crucial in signal wavelet analysis. This study combines the characteristics of OTDR curves and selects appropriate wavelet bases and scales. The experimental results show that this analysis method can accurately locate fault points and has practical application value.
