Perioperative fluid therapy in colorectal fast-track surgery

Abstract:The perioperative fluid therapy is receiving more and more attention as a prognostic factor of the outcome.With deeper insights into the risks of fluid overload,the conventional standard fluid therapy is being challenged,while the restricted fluid therapy and goal-directed fluid therapy are gaining wider acceptance for their reduction of postoperative complications,shortening of postoperative hospital stay and improvement of prognosis.However,this conclusion has yet to be supported by larger-sample multicentered studies.The liquid types also play an important role,and the debate is still going on as to whether crystalloid or colloid is to be chosen.At present,the fluid therapy strategies of fast-track surgery are more inclined to the combination of crystalloids and colloids,clarified responsibilities,appropriate speed,and individualized treatment.
