Abstract:With the acceleration of urbanization construction, numerous construction solid waste (CSW) landfills have been built in recent decades, posing safety hazards to the surroundings and revealing the significance of quantitative risk assessment for CSW landfills. The various diversity of the stockpiled waste soil in CSW landfills make spatial variability of soil properties, which causes uncertainty in risk assessments. However, there are few quantitative risk assessments for the artificial landfill in spatially variable soils. This paper aims to propose a quantitative assessment method of human risk for the CSW landfill. Based on a CSW landfill in Hangzhou, China, this paper employs the random finite difference method to analyze the hazard of large-scale engineering slopes in the framework of Monte Carlo Simulation, including the calculation of failure probability, and the estimation of potential landslide volume and runout distance. Then, a quantitative risk assessment model of human in vehicles considering the Poisson distribution of vehicles is established for the downstream road of the landfill. Eventually, an assessment criteria curve between the frequency and number of fatalities (F-N curve) is developed to visualize societal risk in diverse vehicles. This result reveals the potential landslide failure modes, post-failure travel distance, and risk index of human in different vehicles with considering the spatial variability of the CSW landfill, providing further guidance for rational operation management to landfill stakeholders. In addition, the risk assessment method can be used to quantitatively assess human risk in similar artificial landfills.
