From European Model to American Model: the Trends of Doctoral Training Model Reform in European Countries

Abstract:Under the various driving forces since the 1990s,European countries and Australia have begun to initiate reform in doctoral training mode,which can be seen as the following trends:the institutional diffusion of graduate school;the rising of new doctoral programs and quality criteria;the emergence of trans-disciplinary and trans-institution in doctoral training;the transformation of supervision mode from single mentor to cooperation;putting more emphasize on training process;incorporate generic elements in doctoral education. The overall transformation trend is from'European model'to'American model'.Although the reform of Chinese doctoral education is conform to western countries in many aspects,we need to make further reform in academic training,trans-disciplinary training and internationalization in doctoral education,which have already lag behind the Europe and America.
