Perioperative Anesthesia Management of the Wounded Transferred from the Quake-Hit Area

Abstract:Objective After the Wenchuan earthquake,a great number of patients were transferred from the quake-afflicted area to the hospitals in other areas.This study summarizes our experience in perioperative anesthesia management of the wounded treated in our hospital.Methods We retrospectively analyzed the clinical anesthesia data of the wounded from the Wenchuan earthquake treated in Nanjing General Hospital,and summed up the experience in perioperative anesthesia management.Results Twenty patients received general anesthesia,16 combined spinal and epidural anesthesia,4 brachial plexus block,and 9 local anesthesia.All remained stable during the perioperative period,without anesthesia-induced death or complications.Conclusion Patients transferred from the quake-hit area should be subjected to timely and adequate medical and instrumental examinations and preparation before surgery.The principles of anesthesia management include individualized anesthesia,reducing psychological stress,and avoiding anesthesia complications.
