Abstract:Purpose The purpose of this research is to explain the financing dilemma of China's strategic emerging industries and improve their financing efficiency, seize the commanding heights of economic science and technology to provide theoretical support. Design/methodology/approach This paper selects the companies listed under strategic emerging industry during the period of 2010–2017 as the research object and used the data envelopment analysis method (DEA) to evaluate the financing efficiency of China's strategic emerging industries and selects the tobit analysis method to find out the factors affecting its financing efficiency. Findings The results show that the average financing efficiency of listed companies in strategic emerging industries between 2010 and 2017 is 0.7792, and the level of financing efficiency of strategic emerging industries is still at a low level. Among them, the bio-pharmaceutical industry and the energy-saving and environmental protection industry have the highest comprehensive level, and the high-end equipment manufacturing industry and the new energy industry have the lowest level of financing efficiency. Among the factors affecting the financing efficiency of strategic emerging industries, the asset-liability ratio, financial expenses and cash ratio and financing efficiency are negatively correlated, and the net asset income is positively correlated with the growth rate of the main business income. Originality/value This paper measures the financing efficiency of China's strategic emerging industries, then explores the influencing factors of the financing efficiency of strategic emerging industries and tries to provide important reference values for the improvement of the financing efficiency of China's strategic emerging industries at a practical level.

Abstract:Data envelopment analysis (DEA) has recently become a popular method in measuring energy efficiency at the macro-economy level. However, previous studies are limited in that they failed to consider the issues of undesirable outputs and minimisation of energy consumption. Thus, this study considers both factors in measuring Chinese industrial energy efficiency and investigates the maximum energy-saving potential in 28 administrative regions in China. The results show that industries in the east area have the best average energy efficiency for the period 2000–2006, followed by the central area. Further, after comparing the industrial energy overall efficiency, pure technical efficiency (IEPTE), and scale efficiency of the 28 administrative regions examined, the study finds that in most regions of this study, the two main reasons causing the wastage of a large amount of energy during the industrial production process are that the industrial structure of most regions still relies on the massive use of energy in order to support the industrial-based economy and the IEPTE is too low. Based on these findings, this paper correspondingly proposes some policies to improve regional industrial energy efficiency.

Abstract:In order to accurately analyze the safety management efficiency of China's coal enterprises, based on the panel data of 14 coal listed enterprises in 2012–2018, this paper analyzes the overall technical efficiency (TE), pure technical efficiency (PTE) and scale efficiency (SE) of safety management of sample enterprises by the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model, and builds Tobit model of random panel effect to evaluate the impact of business management and safety investment on safety management efficiency. The results show that: in 2012–2018, the average values of TE, PTE and SE of sample enterprises are respectively 0.674, 0.777 and 0.864; all have great room for improvement. The development of PTE and SE in most sample enterprises is unbalanced; TE of sample enterprises does not significantly improve, and shows a trend of rising-decreasing-rising; safety investment, enterprise scale and labor productivity are significantly positively related to safety management technical efficiency, while safety training person time and employees quality are negatively correlated. This paper identified the positive and negative effects of various influencing factors on the safety management efficiency of coal enterprises, and analyzed the main reasons that hinder the improvement of safety efficiency, and puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions, which are helpful for coal enterprises to effectively improve their safety management efficiency and economic efficiency.

Abstract:To analyze the effectiveness of safety training and internal management of coal enterprises affecting their safety input, this paper constructs the panel data of 13 listed companies of coal enterprises from 2012 to 2017, and makes an empirically study on the dynamic change of safety efficiency of coal enterprises in China under the influence of safety training and internal management, and analyzes the factors affecting safety efficiency of coal enterprises. The results show that safety efficiency index of sample enterprises shows the rising-decreasing-increasing trend. The average value of safety efficiency is 0.973, which indicates that most coalmine enterprises have lower safety efficiency, and there is a large room for improvement. The main factor to promote the safety efficiency progress of China’s coal enterprises is technical efficiency, and technological progress has not played its due role; the contribution rate of pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency needs to be improved. According to the research results, the corresponding countermeasures and suggestions are proposed.

Abstract:This paper aims to evaluate the technological innovation efficiency of traditional mineral resources industry. In order to get this aim, this paper builds a brief technological innovation efficiency evaluation index system of coal mining industry. Then it constructs an evaluation model of technological innovation efficiency based on data envelopment analysis method. Lastly the paper takes 23 listed companies of coal mining industry as an example to conduct an empirical research through the DEA model and indicator system of evaluation. The result shows that the coal mining industry's scale efficiency is good, but technological innovation efficiency is low. And the conclusion: continue to invest in traditional mineral resources industry is worthy.
Operating Efficiency Analysis of 24 Coal-Firms in China: An Application Based on Context-Dependent DEA

Abstract:When economy of China step into the period of new normal, problems such as scant demand and excess supply in the development emerge, which bring a serial of development difficulty for many industries. Especially, coal industry is the key industry which has excess supply. It is necessary to analyze efficiency performance of coal firms in China. DEA, as an efficiency evaluation tool, is often used. In this paper, we introduce the context-dependent DEA approach and apply this method into evaluating the efficiency performance of 24 coal firms in China. One input index and three output indexes are adopted. Through our analysis and discuss, meaningful and useful findings are summarized including that which strategy is fit to adopt for a specific coal firm. Compared with previous related researches, our data is newer and traditional DEA models are abandoned. We believe that our work is important and valuable for coal companies, managers and policy makers.

Abstract:By using the method of data envelopment analysis(DEA), this paper evaluates the efficiency of equity finance of 47 listed companies which are initially public offered in 1998 in Shanghai stock exchange market. And the result is that efficiency of equity finance about 68.09% listed companies can't reach both technique and scale efficiency, that about 59.57% can't do either technique and scale efficiency, so efficiency of equity finance of listed companies in China is low in all. In 47 companies, efficiency of information industry companies is fairly high and that of public utility and health care industry is relative low. Furthermore, ways to increase efficiency of equity finance are put forward.

Abstract:Faced with environmental pollution and energy depletion, improving nuclear energy efficiency is essential. This article studies nuclear energy technology efficiency from listed companies. Use SE-DEA model to measure and analyze energy listed compa-nies’ technical efficiency from 2009 to 2014. On this basis, use Tobit model to study factors of nuclear energy listed companies’ tech-nical efficiency from financial and non-financial aspects. At last, give some suggestions. Studies show that:short-term solvency, profit-ability, company size have a significant positive impact on technical efficiency of energy listed companies, while long-term solvency has a significant negative impact. Operating capacity, education level, technical constitution, research and development capabilities have no significant impact. Therefore, nuclear energy listed companies should reduce the company’s long-term liabilities appropriately, im-prove the company’s current liabilities appropriately, improve the company’s profitability and expand the size of the company.

Abstract:After inputs/outputs index system for coal enterprise is established,some super-efficiency data envelopment analysis(SE-DEA) models are applied to evaluate the performance of nineteen listed coal enterprises,then efficiency scores of all enterprises including inputs redundancy and outputs shortage are attained.Later some portfolio evaluation methods are used to integrate all scores of each enterprise.In order to obtain the most fair and square portfolio method,pre-test and post-test processes are adopted.Results show that the productivity of most enterprises is acceptable.However,there are still many individual differences and lots of enterprises' productivity could be improved.Furthermore,efficient enterprises should improve and enhance their technology and management,and even explore better technical and management patterns so as to maintain their advantages and leading position.Administration should establish appropriate economic policies after the simulation,maybe use different rules for different enterprises,which finally achieve green development model of China's coal industry.

Abstract:As a special method to evaluate relative efficiency,DEA has many advantages in evaluating efficiency of steel industry of China.But there are the disadvantages in traditional DEA method.That is the input and output indexes are all decided by the evaluators,which makes the persuasion of the evaluation results become decrease at the beginning.In order to solve such disadvantages and make the evaluation of steel industry more precise and impersonality,this paper combines traditional DEA with AHP,taking the 21 list companies of steel industry in China as evaluation targets.Firstly,AHP is used to set up evaluation indexes system.Then DEA is used to compute the general efficiency,technological efficiency and scale efficiency.At the end,the paper puts forward some suggestions to improve the efficiency of the companies that are not DEA effective.

Abstract:This paper introduces a minimum input and largest output ideal decision-making unit on the basis of using the traditional method of data envelopment analysis from the point of efficiency view. The DEA evaluation model is modified, and the decision-making units are full evaluation and ranking. The modified DEA model analyses the Competitiveness evaluation of representative listed companies in China new energy industry representative. Through the analysis and solution for the data on 11 new energy listed company, the results indicate the effectiveness of this method, reflect the competitiveness of new energy listed companies, and provide relevant decision-making information for new energy industry operation.

Abstract:In this article, the non-parametric data envelopment analysis method (DEA) is employed to evaluate energy efficiency (EE) of 34 coal-fired power units in China. Input-oriented CCR (Charnes, Cooper and Rhodes) model is used for EE analysis. Two efficiency indices, generalized EE and special EE are defined and analyzed. The generalized EE is calculated based on four input parameters: coal consumption, oil consumption, water consumption and auxiliary power consumption by power units. The special EE is only based on two input parameters: coal consumption and auxiliary power consumption. Relations between these two EE indices and non-comparable factors including quality of coal, load factor, capacity factor, parameters of main steam and cooling method are studied. Comparison between EE evaluation results of the two indices is conducted. Results show that these two kinds of EE are more sensitive to the load factor than the capacity factor. The influence of the cooling method on EE is larger than that of main steam parameter. The influence of non-comparable factors on the special EE is stronger than that on the generalized EE. Abstract:On the sample of dozens of listed companies in highly competitive Chinese and Japanese textile,garment and fibre product industry from 2000 to 2006,the target of this paper is to make an exploratory study on the nexus between technical efficiency and profitability.Basing on SFA and DEA approaches,the authors begin with measuring technical efficiency and make a comparison between China and Japan.Furthermore,with controlling firm size,financial leverage,ownership structure and others,the authors make an examination on the linkage between firm efficiency and profitability by panel data random-effect model,and our estimations show that a positive,significant and stable linkage exists between them.

Abstract:The principle of green mining is conservation resources, protection environment, people oriented and safety production. According own characteristics of coal industry, this paper built the input and output indicators of green mining, chose eight different coal enterprises in China as decision making units. The date envelopment analysis (DEA) was applied to evaluate and optimize the operating efficiency of coal enterprises from technical efficiency, pure technology efficiency and scale efficiency. At the same time, with an inefficiency enterprise as example, projection analysis was used to give some suggestions to optimization.

Abstract:The paper uses data envelopment analysis(DEA) of the 2007~2009 China′s gold industry,the efficiency of listed companies.The paper draws the following conclusion.China′s gold industry companies in the efficiency of the significant differences,scale efficiency and production efficiency has a significant positive correlation,pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency of a slight degree of negative correlation;most of the listed companies in the scale efficiency increase stage,only number of listed companies in or close to the scale of the effective size of an effective;scale efficiency is the impact of China′s gold industry;the main factors of production efficiency,pure technical efficiency is not the main reason for this phenomenon.

Abstract:In order to evaluate the relative efficiency of the listed companies in port industry,a new method combining factor analysis and DEA is put forward in this paper.Firstly,capital fund and business devotion are distilled as common factors from many preparing factors and set up as input indexes.At the same time,profit and portfolio are distilled as output indexes.Then,the data of 11 listed companies of port industry in 2006 is put into DEA model as the value of indexes.Therefore,the general efficiency,pure technology efficiency and scale efficiency are educed as the evaluation results.This paper provides a new way and valuable reference for evaluating and reforming the efficiency of port industry in China.
Efficiency and its influencing factors in port enterprises: empirical evidence from Chinese port-listed companies

Abstract:This study investigates the efficiency and the factors that influence the efficiency of Chinese port-listed companies. We employ a two-stage procedure to analyse the efficiency of port enterprises and their influencing factors. First, we use Data Envelopment Analysis to calculate the efficiency scores of listed companies. The major findings are as follows: (1) overall, the means of scores were relatively high and exceeded by 0.8 in our research period; (2) the efficiency scores were different among individual firms; (3) a strong regularity of returns to scale was present. Second, we discuss the influencing factors of efficiency and established a regression model. We then employ a panel data approach to investigate how these factors influence the efficiency of the aforementioned companies. Results showed that long term or short term, the ratio of state-owned shares, debt asset ratio and operating costs ratio are negatively related to efficiency. Conversely, firm size, ratio of outside directors and human capital are positively related to efficiency. Results of the panel error correction model indicate that a long-term equilibrium relationship exists between efficiency and its influencing factors. Finally, we analyse the reasons behind the findings and proposed some policy implications.

Abstract:This study examines the evolution of technical efficiency (TE) and its determinants in China's high-pollution coal mining industry. The effects of market competition, technology, and pollution abatement expenditure (PAE) on inefficiency are investigated. Using a firm-level panel dataset for the 2001–2013 period, estimation using a panel stochastic frontier model shows that the average TE was stable with a small fluctuation in the 2000s and then deteriorated in the 2010s. The majority of private entrants have lower TE than the main group of incumbents, state-owned enterprises, whereas foreign firms exhibit the highest TE among firms. We find that capital imports, research and development, and government subsidies are important factors in reducing technical inefficiency, highlighting the importance of technological activity on production efficiency. Further analysis of the relationship between PAE and TE reveals that PAE positively contributes to the efficiency of coal mining firms. Robustness checks ensure the aforementioned findings.
