Abstract:Objective To study the analgesic efficacy and side-effects of lornoxicam combined with fentanyl used for upper-abdominal surgery. Methods Sixty patients underwent selective upper-abdominal surgery were divided randomly into patient-controlled intravenous analgesia (PCIA) with lornoxicam and fentanyl (group LF) or fentanyl alone (group F). Visual analogue score (VAS) was selected as the index of pain-intensity. The 24-hour analgesic efficacy after the beginning of analgesia, the adverse effects during analgesia-period were observed. Results Fifty-nine patients (29 in group LF, 30 in group F) completed trial. VAS at 0, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 24 h during analgesia, the number of patients who needed rescue drug and the overall satisfaction on analgesia therapy were not different between two groups. The fentanyl consumption during 24-hour period was significantly lower in group LF than that in group F. The percentage of nausea and mild respiration depression (SpO_2<95%) was lower significantly in group LF than that in group F . Conclusion Combined with fentanyl, lornoxicam could reduce fentanyl consumption significantly with reliable analgesic efficacy and lower side-effects for postoperative analgosia.
