Abstract:This article contains a digest of the theory of electromagnetism and a review of the transformation between inertial frames, especially under low speed limits. The covariant nature of the Maxwell's equations is explained using the conventional language. We show that even under low speed limits, the relativistic effects should not be neglected to get a self-consistent theory of the electromagnetic fields, unless the intrinsic dynamics of these fields has been omitted completely. The quasi-static limits, where the relativistic effects can be partly neglected are also reviewed, to clarify some common misunderstandings and imprecise use of the theory in presence of moving media and other related situations. The discussions presented in this paper provide a clear view of why classical electromagnetic theory is relativistic in its essence.

Abstract:Various paradoxes about the relativity theory have been developed since the birth of this theory. Each paradox somewhat shows people's query about the relativity theory, and solving of each paradox demonstrates the correctness of relativity theory once again. In this paper, four paradoxes about the special theory of relativity are brought forward: displacement paradox, electromagnetic transformation paradox, Doppler paradox and magnetic force paradox. We hope some researchers can reasonably explain these paradoxes, and then knowledge of the relativity theory will become more abundant.

Abstract:This work analyzes the difficulties in learning and teaching Einstein's theory of special relativity. An extensive bibliographic review has been performed, considering articles published in the most relevant journals on science education, which were selected taking into account the following impact factors: JCR, SJR, IN-RECS and ICDS. The typical thinking of students and teachers is discussed pointing out that, occasionally, it does not befit the proper scientific perspective. Different educational proposals are examined and particular didactic implications are inferred. The conclusions of this inquiry constitute the basis of a proposal that relies on a Minkowskian geometrical formulation for teaching special relativity in upper secondary education.

Abstract:The Einstein-First project aims to change the paradigm of school science teaching through the introduction of modern Einsteinian concepts of space and time, gravity and quanta at an early age. These concepts are rarely taught to school students despite their central importance to modern science and technology. The key to implementing the Einstein-First curriculum is the development of appropriate models and analogies. This paper is the first part of a three-paper series. It presents the conceptual foundation of our approach, based on simple physical models and analogies, followed by a detailed description of the models and analogies used to teach concepts of general and special relativity. Two accompanying papers address the teaching of quantum physics (Part 2) and research outcomes (Part 3).

Abstract:We discuss pedagogical problems associated with the conventional approach in teaching relativity and the potential value of "Lorentzian route to relativity" for addressing these pedagogical problems. We think that Lorentzian approach may be valuable part of an introduction to relativity but the historical route should be followed up to its end. It must namely include Einstein's application of Occam's razor in reinterpreting Lorentz transformations kinematically and the discussion of the central role of the evolution from Lorentz's "local time" to relativity of simultaneity. We discuss also what Occam's razor is not and why it should not cut "too deeply or too permanently". Some misleading remarks in relativity text books concerning for example Kennedy Thorndike experiment and Trouton-Noble experiment indicate the not uncommon lack of awareness about the degree observational equivalence between prerelativistic (Lorentzian) and relativistic viewpoints as far as special relativistic experiments are considered. Abstract:There are many books on the classical subject of special relativity. However, after having spent a number of years, both in relativistic engineering and research with relativity, I have come to the conclusion that there exist a place for a new book. I do believe that the present book is not quite the same as the others, mainly due to attempt to cast light on dark corners. I should make it clear what this little book is not. It is not a textbook on relativity theory. What the book is about is the nature of special relativistic kinematics, its relation to space and time, and the operational interpretation of coordinate transformations. Every theory contains a number of quantities that can be measured by experiment and an expressions that cannot possibly be observed. Whenever we have a theory containing an arbitrary convention, we should examine what parts of the theory depend on the choice of that convention and what parts do not. The distinction is not always made and many authors claim some data to be observable, according to arbitrary conventions, which do not correspond to any physical experiment. This leads to inconsistencies and paradoxes that should be avoided at all cost.

Abstract:This review presents an overview and analysis of the body of research on special relativity theory (SRT) education at the secondary and lower undergraduate level. There is currently a growing international interest in implementing SRT in pre-university education as an introduction to modern physics. For this reason, insights into learning opportunities and challenges in SRT education are needed. The field of research in SRT education is still at an early stage, especially at the level of secondary education, and there is a shortage of empirical evaluation of learning outcomes. In order to guide future research directions, there is a need for an overview and synthesis of the results reported so far. We have selected 40 articles and categorized them according to reported learning difficulties, teaching approaches, and research tools. Analysis shows that students at all educational levels experience learning difficulties with the use of frames of reference, the postulates of SRT, and relativistic effects. In the reported teaching sequences, instructional materials, and learning activities, these difficulties are approached from different angles. Some teaching approaches focus on thought experiments to express conceptual features of SRT, while others use virtual environments to provide realistic visualization of relativistic effects. From the reported teaching approaches, three learning objectives can be identified: to foster conceptual understanding, to foster understanding of the history and philosophy of science, and to gain motivation and confidence toward SRT and physics in general. Resolution of two fundamental issues in the dynamics of relativity and exposure of a real version of the emperor's new clothes

Abstract:In this paper, we aim to resolve two fundamental issues in the dynamics of relativity: (i) Under what condition, the time-column space integrals of a Lorentz four-tensor constitute a Lorentz four-vector, and (ii) under what condition, the time-element space integral of a Lorentz four-vector is a Lorentz scalar; namely two "conservation laws", which are mispresented in traditional textbooks, and widely used in fundamental research, such as relativistic analysis of the momentum of light in a medium, and the proofs of the positive mass theorem in general relativity. To resolve issue (i), we have developed a generalized Lorentz \emph{four-vector} theorem based on the principles of classical mathematical analysis, with a simplified analytic example given to illustrate how to transform a space integral from one inertial frame to another, and a strict mathematical derivation provided to confirm the effect of Lorentz contraction. We use this four-vector theorem to verify M{\o}ller's theorem, and surprisingly find that M{\o}ller's theorem is fundamentally wrong. We provide a corrected version of M{\o}ller's theorem. We also use this four-vector theorem to analyze a plane light wave in a moving uniform medium, and find that the momentum and energy of Minkowski quasi-photon constitute a Lorentz four-vector and Planck constant is a Lorentz invariant. To resolve issue (ii), we have developed a generalized Lorentz \emph{scalar} theorem. We use this theorem to verify the "invariant conservation law" in relativistic electrodynamics, and unexpectedly find that it is also fundamentally wrong. Thus the two "conservation laws" in traditional textbooks, which have magically attracted several generations of most outstanding scientists, turned out to be imaginary, just like the emperor's new clothes; creating a scientific myth in the modern theoretical and mathematical physics: Believing is seeing.
Students' difficulties in understanding the basic principles of relativity after standard instruction

Abstract:Theory of Relativity (Special and General) is one of the most influential theories of the 20th century and has changed the way we view the world. It is part of many undergraduate curriculums and it is often suggested that it should be integrated into an upper secondary curriculum. Special Theory of Relativity combines time and space whereas General Theory of Relativity describes gravity as a geometric property of spacetime. As it describes abstract phenomena, students encounter several difficulties understanding its basic principles and consequences. In this paper, we present the research that we conducted in order to detect the aforementioned difficulties. This research constitutes a part of a more general study concerning the integration of Special and General Relativity into an upper secondary and undergraduate curriculum. The sample consisted of 45 non-major physics undergraduate students. The purpose of our study was to determine and categorize the difficulties students face when they study the principles of the Theory of Relativity and its consequences. The results of our research indicate that student face many obstacles when trying to interpret phenomena described by the Relativity and confuse Special and General Relativity principles. These results dictate us to create an educational approach that tackle the difficulties found.

I try to demonstrate that relativity does not contradict common sense; on the contrary, it follows from common sense logically. I discuss Minkowski space-time geometry in some detail. Geometrical approach, with few simple formulas but many pictures, makes results of the theory intuitively obvious.

A one-map two-clock approach to teaching relativity in introductory physics

Abstract:This paper presents some ideas which might assist teachers incorporating special relativity into an introductory physics curriculum. One can define the proper-time/velocity pair, as well as the coordinate-time/velocity pair, of a traveler using only distances measured with respect to a single ``map'' frame. When this is done, the relativistic equations for momentum, energy, constant acceleration, and force take on forms strikingly similar to their Newtonian counterparts. Thus high-school and college students not ready for Lorentz transforms may solve relativistic versions of any single-frame Newtonian problems they have mastered. We further show that multi-frame calculations (like the velocity-addition rule) acquire simplicity and/or utility not found using coordinate-velocity alone.

Abstract:The essence of special relativity is hiding in the equal existence of particle and antiparticle, which can be expressed by two discrete symmetries within one inertial frame --- the invariance under the (newly defined) space-time inversion (${\bf x}\to -{\bf x},t\to -t$), or equivalently, the invariance under a mass inversion ($m\to -m$). Counterintuitive properties of relativistic relative motion for accelerated observers

Abstract:A challenge in teaching about special relativity is that a number of the theory's effects are at odds with the intuition of classical physics, as well as student's everyday experience. The relativity of simultaneity, time dilation and length contraction are prominent examples. This article describes two additional, less well-known counter-intuitive properties, both of which follow from the relativistic definition of relative motion, in situations with accelerated observers: (a) when two objects have a constant radar distance and are by that standard ``at relative rest,'' their relative speed is not necessarily zero, and (b) for two observers A and B, a situation is possible where A considers the two to be approaching each other, while B considers them to be moving away from each other. In general relativity, the generalisations of these two properties prove helpful for understanding static gravitational fields, and they also provide some insight into the nature of horizons.

Abstract:There occurred in the early years of this century three conceptual revolutions that profoundly changed Man's understanding of the physical universe: the special theory of relativity (in 1905), the general theory of relativity (1915) and quantum mechanics (1925). Einstein personally was responsible for the first two of these revolutions, and influenced and helped to shape the third. But it is not about his work in these conceptual revolutions that I shall write here. Much has been written about that work already. Instead, I shall discuss, in general terms, Einstein's insights on the structure of theoretical physics and their relevance to the development of physics in the second half of this century. I shall divide the discussion into four sections which are, of course, very much related.

Abstract:How to ensure the coexistence of relativism and validity of science is what puzzles all relativists.Epistemological relativism's ( such as Social Constructivism) standpoint that science is socially constructed inevitably leads to a contradiction between relativism and validity of science which has far from been resolved in a debate between Richard Dawkins as scientist and David Bloor as sociologist.What is necessary for solving this problem is: to substitute(1) social constructivism with practical constructivism; ( 2) epistemological relativism with ontological relativism; and(3) ontologized science with the science as an epistemological concept.
On The Errors of Relativity and Quantum Mechanics

Abstract:Physics is also known as a science of observation and experiment. In this paper, the most representative experimental verification of general relativity, "Mercury perihelion precession", is used for mathematical derivation and analysis, and the serious errors in the experimental verification are expounded deeply. Furthermo2re, the Lorentz transformation, the core formula of special relativity, is mathematically deduced and analyzed, and the contradictions and errors existing in the Lorentz transformation are profoundly revealed. These contradictions and errors involve the deep relationship between physics and mathematics, and are also the core problems faced by theoretical physics. Minkowski's four-dimensional spacetime contradicts the "principle of constant speed of light", and there are serious errors in the "relativity of simultaneity". The so-called experimental verification of the theory of relativity is false, and there is a fundamental error in the theory of relativity, which will lead to the collapse of the whole theoretical building, including general relativity. The basic formula of quantum mechanics, "matter wave" wavelength λ=h/p , is also based on the wrong Einstein "massenergy equation". Therefore, the wave function of "matter wave" established on the wavelength λ=h/p of "de Broglie wave" and the Schrodinger equation are all pseudo-formulas without any physical significance. Schrodinger equation is the core formula of quantum mechanics. This is enough to cause the collapse of quantum mechanics.The mathematical derivation of the Compton effect was completely based on the pseudo-concepts of special relativity such as "mass-energy equation" and "moving mass", while Einstein's explanation of the photoelectric effect was limited by the scientific and technological level at that time. The Compton effect and the photoelectric effect, as the two most important experimental verification of the "waver-particle duality" of light, were not valid. "Wade-particle duality" is another misdirection of Einstein to human beings, which "inspired" de Broglie to put forward the famous "matter wave" hypothesis, and the "matter wave" concept is the root that led theoretical physics to fall into the abyss of quantum mechanics. In addition, there are serious errors in the basic concept of quantum mechanics. "Monochromatic radiant outdegree" is an incomplete definition of physics, which is also the root cause of the "ultraviolet disaster" problem. The defective physics concept of "monochromatic radiant outdegree" is also an important reason for theoretical physics to fall into the "quantization" quake-pit. The "ultraviolet catastrophe" problem of blackbody radiation is a physical accident caused by the artificially defined defect concept of "monochromatic radiance outdegree". Boer's hydrogen atom theory is the foundation theory of quantum mechanics. Like relativity theory, this theory also has the problem that the same mathematical symbol expresses two contradictory physical meanings at the same time. Quantum tunneling has the problem of different physical interpretation of mathematical formulas. No matter the premise or the core formula, there are serious contradictions and errors in quantum mechanics, and quantum mechanics is also a wrong theory. The theory of relativity and quantum mechanics is a lost on the journey of human truth exploration. The fundamental errors of relativity and quantum mechanics will lead to the comprehensive collapse of theoretical physics system including relativistic quantum mechanics, quantum field theory (quantum electrodynamics, quantum chromodynamics, unified theory of weak electricity, standard model of elementary particle physics), Yang Mills theory and so on. Fortunately, in the course of nearly a century of exploration, human beings have accumulated a large number of empirical results.
