Abstract:Cyberspace has become the most popular carrier of information exchange in every corner of our life, which is beneficial for our life in almost all aspects. With the continuous development of science and technology, especially the quantum computer, cyberspace security has become the most critical problem for the Internet in near future. In this paper, we focus on analyzing characteristics of the quantum cryptography and exploring of the advantages of it in the future Internet. It is worth noting that we analyze the quantum key distribution (QKD) protocol in the noise-free channel. Moreover, in order to simulate real situations in the future Internet, we also search the QKD protocol in the noisy channel. The results reflect the unconditional security of quantum cryptography theoretically, which is suitable for the Internet as ever-increasing challenges are inevitable in the future.

Abstract:Cryptography is very essential in our daily life, not only for confidentiality of information, but also for information integrity verification, non-repudiation, authentication, and other aspects. In modern society, cryptography is widely used; everything from personal life to national security is inseparable from it. With the emergence of quantum computing, traditional encryption methods are at risk of being cracked. People are beginning to explore methods for defending against quantum computer attacks. Among the methods currently developed, quantum key distribution is a technology that uses the principles of quantum mechanics to distribute keys. Post-quantum encryption algorithms are encryption methods that rely on mathematical challenges that quantum computers cannot solve quickly to ensure security. In this study, an integrated review of post-quantum encryption algorithms is conducted from the perspective of traditional cryptography. First, the concept and development background of post-quantum encryption are introduced. Then, the post-quantum encryption algorithm Kyber is studied. Finally, the achievements, difficulties and outstanding problems in this emerging field are summarized, and some predictions for the future are made.

Abstract:Ever since its inception, cryptography has been caught in a vicious circle: Cryptographers keep inventing methods to hide information, and cryptanalysts break them, prompting cryptographers to invent even more sophisticated encryption schemes, and so on. But could it be that quantum information technology breaks this circle? At first sight, it looks as if it just lifts the competition between cryptographers and cryptanalysts to the next level. Indeed, quantum computers will render most of today’s public key cryptosystems insecure. Nonetheless, there are good reasons to believe that cryptographers will ultimately prevail over cryptanalysts. Quantum cryptography allows us to build communication schemes whose secrecy relies only on the laws of physics and some minimum assumptions about the cryptographic hardware—leaving basically no room for an attack. While we are not yet there, this paper provides an overview of the principles and state-of-the-art of quantum cryptography, as well as an assessment of current challenges and prospects for overcoming them.

Abstract:Due to its fundamental principles, quantum theory holds the promise to enhance the security of modern cryptography, from message encryption to anonymous communication, digital signatures, online banking, leader election, one-time passwords and delegated computation. While quantum key distribution (QKD) has already enabled secure key exchange over hundreds of kilometers, a myriad of other quantum-cryptographic primitives are being developed to secure future applications against quantum adversaries. This article surveys the theoretical and experimental developments in quantum cryptography beyond QKD over the past decades, along with advances in secure quantum computation. It provides an intuitive classification of the main quantum primitives and their security levels, summarizes their possibilities and limits, and discusses their implementation with current photonic technology.

Abstract:Quantum cryptography is arguably the fastest growing area in quantum information science. Novel theoretical protocols are designed on a regular basis, security proofs are constantly improving, and experiments are gradually moving from proof-of-principle lab demonstrations to in-field implementations and technological prototypes. In this paper, we provide both a general introduction and a state-of-the-art description of the recent advances in the field, both theoretical and experimental. We start by reviewing protocols of quantum key distribution based on discrete variable systems. Next we consider aspects of device independence, satellite challenges, and protocols based on continuous-variable systems. We will then discuss the ultimate limits of point-to-point private communications and how quantum repeaters and networks may overcome these restrictions. Finally, we will discuss some aspects of quantum cryptography beyond standard quantum key distribution, including quantum random number generators and quantum digital signatures. © 2020 Optical Society of America

Abstract:So far, quantum key distribution (QKD) has been the main subject in the field of quantum cryptography, but that is not quantum cryptographic communication, it is only the ability to send keys for cryptographic purposes. To complete cryptographic communication, a technique for encrypting data is necessary, and the conventional cryptographic technique of mathematical symmetric key cipher or One Time Pad (OTP) is adopted in the discussion so far. However, OTP is not the ultimate cipher for data encryption, because it does not satisfy security conditions in the modern cryptology. Around 2000, a new quantum stream cipher was proposed as a technique to challenge the possibility of overcoming drawbacks of OTP in practical use. Recently, we have published some review papers on it in Entropy (Open access journal), and others. This paper introduces an overview and a back ground of our paper that is entitled Quantum stream cipher based on Holevo-Yuen theory.

Abstract:Quantum technologies should have a profound impact on cryptography and information security industry in the coming age.The general quantum computers,which can run quantum algorithms by thousands of qubits,posing a serious threat to the fundamental algorithms of information security.The famous RSA algorithm and other public key ciphers will be broken and the cryptographic strength of block ciphers will be halved.The implementation of the quantum key distribution in quantum communication must alter the physical construction of traditional secure communication.These important application values are also the driving factors for developing quantum technologies.Combining with the current hot news of quantum technologies,the effects to information security technology were reviewed from two perspectives,quantum computation and quantum communication,respectively.Meanwhile,the status of the new developments in these technologies was briefly introduced,including the advances of general and specific quantum compu-ters,the progress of quantum key distribution made in laboratory conditions and the state of development of the space-ground quantum communication network.In the end,the future form of information security technology was given with a summary.In future,the quantum technologies will deeply integrate and co-exist with various existing technologies.

Abstract:Abstract We present an overview of quantum-safe cryptography (QSC) with a focus on post-quantum cryptography (PQC) and information-theoretic security. From a cryptographic point of view, lattice and code-based schemes are among the most promising PQC solutions. Both approaches are based on the hardness of decoding problems of linear codes with different metrics. From an information-theoretic point of view, lattices and linear codes can be constructed to achieve certain secrecy quantities for wiretap channels as is intrinsically classical- and quantum-safe. Historically, coding theory and cryptography are intimately connected since Shannon’s pioneering studies but have somehow diverged later. QSC offers an opportunity to rebuild the synergy of the two areas, hopefully leading to further development beyond the NIST PQC standardization process. In this paper, we provide a survey of lattice and code designs that are believed to be quantum-safe in the area of cryptography or coding theory. The interplay and similarities between the two areas are discussed. We also conclude our understandings and prospects of future research after NIST PQC standardisation.

Abstract:Abstract Quantum cryptography—the application of quantum information processing and quantum computing techniques to cryptography has been extensively investigated. Two major directions of quantum cryptography are quantum key distribution (QKD) and quantum encryption, with the former focusing on secure key distribution and the latter focusing on encryption using quantum algorithms. In contrast to the success of the QKD, the development of quantum encryption algorithms is limited to designs of mostly one-time pads (OTP) that are unsuitable for most communication needs. In this work we propose a non-OTP quantum encryption design utilizing a quantum state creation process to encrypt messages. As essentially a non-OTP quantum block cipher the method stands out against existing methods with the following features: 1. complex key-ciphertext relation (i.e. confusion) and complex plaintext-ciphertext relation (i.e. diffusion); 2. mode of operation design for practical encryption on multiple blocks. These features provide key reusability and protection against eavesdropping and standard cryptanalytic attacks.

Abstract:We review the current status of efforts to develop and deploy post-quantum cryptography on the Internet. Then we suggest specific ways in which quantum technologies might be used to enhance cybersecurity in the near future and beyond. We focus on two goals: protecting the secret keys that are used in classical cryptography, and ensuring the trustworthiness of quantum computations. These goals may soon be within reach, thanks to recent progress in both theory and experiment. This progress includes interactive protocols for testing quantumness as well as for performing uncloneable cryptographic computations; and experimental demonstrations of device-independent random number generators, device-independent quantum key distribution, quantum memories, and analog quantum simulators.

Abstract:With the continuous advancement of quantum communication technology, the public's interest in quantum mechanics and quantum communication has been steadily increasing. However, due to the general level of knowledge and misleading popular science videos on the internet, there are significant misconceptions regarding the understanding of quantum mechanics and quantum communication technology. This study aims to enhance readers' understanding of this field by providing an accessible introduction to the fundamentals of quantum mechanics and quantum communication. This paper starts by elaborating on the basic concepts of quantum mechanics, such as wave function, eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of observables, and the superposition of eigenstates. Then, taking polarization of light as an example, the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics are explained. Subsequently, through the examples of the BB84 and B92 protocols, the working principles of quantum communication and its advantage of being secure against eavesdropping are explained. Finally, an overview of the current status and technological challenges faced by quantum communication technology is provided. It is our expectation that readers, after reading this paper, will enhance their understanding of the theoretical foundations of quantum mechanics and quantum communication, thereby avoiding being misled by erroneous information from the internet and real-life sources.

As an important branch of quantum cryptography, quantum secure direct communication (QSDC) transmits secret information directly through a quantum channel. QSDC has no key, no ciphertext, and eliminates the known security loopholes in traditional secure communication. QSDC has changed the structure of secure communication fundamentally. Here we give a survey of QSDC in terms of principle and recent developments.

Abstract:Over the past three decades, the family of public-key cryptosystems, a fundamental breakthrough in modern cryptography in the late 1970s, has become an increasingly integral part of our communication networks. The Internet, as well as other communication systems, relies principally on the Diffie-Hellman key exchange, RSA encryption, and digital signatures using DSA, ECDSA, or related algorithms. The security of these cryptosystems depends on the difficulty of certain number-theoretic problems, such as integer factorization or the discrete log problem. In 1994 Peter Shor showed that quantum computers can solve each of these problems in polynomial time, thus rendering the security of all cryptosystems based on such assumptions impotent. A large international community has emerged to address this issue in the hope that our public-key infrastructure may remain intact by utilizing new quantum-resistant primitives. In the academic world, this new science bears the moniker Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC).

Abstract:Quantum communication is built on a set of disruptive concepts and technologies. It is driven by fascinating physics and by promising applications. It requires a new mix of competencies, from telecom engineering to theoretical physics, from theoretical computer science to mechanical and electronic engineering. First applications have already found their way to niche markets and university labs are working on futuristic quantum networks, but most of the surprises are still ahead of us. Quantum communication, and more generally quantum information science and technologies, are here to stay and will have a profound impact on the XXI century.

Abstract:Quantum cryptography is the art and science of exploiting quantum mechanical effects in order to perform cryptographic tasks. While the most well-known example of this discipline is quantum key distribution (QKD), there exist many other applications such as quantum money, randomness generation, secure two- and multi-party computation and delegated quantum computation. Quantum cryptography also studies the limitations and challenges resulting from quantum adversaries---including the impossibility of quantum bit commitment, the difficulty of quantum rewinding and the definition of quantum security models for classical primitives. In this review article, aimed primarily at cryptographers unfamiliar with the quantum world, we survey the area of theoretical quantum cryptography, with an emphasis on the constructions and limitations beyond the realm of QKD.

Abstract:Abstract Quantum communication has made great breakthroughs in recent years. Because of its characteristics for strict information security transmission and high speed, it has received attention from related research fields around the world. This paper briefly reviews the progress in the field of quantum computing and communication. The basic functions of quantum mechanics related to the quantum communication are first introduced, including qubit, logic gates, postulates, polarization and quantum entanglement. Then the applications of quantum communication are discussed including teleportation, cryptography and quantum networks. Finally, advantages and disadvantages for the current applications are analyzed and the challenges remained in the current research are demonstrated.
