Abstract:Four complexes of Mn(Ⅲ)with dianion of bis(benzoylacetone)diimine(abbrev.bzacen2-)and organic bases:Mn(bzacen)LClO4,where L is pyrazine,pyridine,γ-methylpyridIne and acetonitrile, have been synthesized.The crystal structure of [Mn(bzacen)(CH3CN)ClO4]has been determined by X-ray diffraction method. The crystal is orthohom-bic with a=0.9077(1)nm,b=1.5563(1)nm,c=1.7205(2)nm,V=2.4305nm3,Z=4,Dc=1.48g/cm3,Dm=1.49g/cm3;space group Pnma. The compound has an elongated octahedralstructure. The electronic spectra and infrared spectra of the compounds have been assigned.

Abstract:The title complex, [Mn3O(C6H5COO)(6)(py)(3)]. 2CH(3)CN (py = pyridine), has been prepared. Single-crystal X-ray analysis revealed a mu(3)-oxo-bridged (Mn2MnII)-Mn-III structure, in which each manganese atom has a distorted octahedral environment. The Mn(1) atom is readily assigned as a Mn-III centre from the Mn-(mu(3)-O) distance [1.819(5) Angstrom]. Abstract:The reaction of N-n-Bu4MnO4 with Mn(OAc)2•4H2O and 2-chioropropane acid in nonaqueous solvents leads to the formation of the complex [Mn3O(O2CCHCICH3)6(py)2(H2O)]•2/3H2•(1•2/3H2O). The crystal structure was determined. The complex crystallizes in monoclinic, space group C2/c, unit cell parameters, a=3.5935(2) nm, b=1.75340(10) nm, c=2.4809(2) nm, β=124.78(10)°. An isoceles triangle structure of the complex 1 has an antiferro-magnetic interaction between the three Mn ions. CCDC:723814.

Abstract:A new mixed-valence heterotrinuclear complex, Mn(III)Ni(III)Mn(II)O(PhCOO)(6)Py-3, was synthesized using NBu4MnO4 as an oxididant. In the reaction, Ni(II) was oxidized to Ni(II) while Mn(VII) was reduced to Mn(II) and Mn(III). Crystals are monoclinic, space group C2/C, with a=58.93(4), b = 11.784(3), c = 24.883(9) Angstrom, beta = 100.64(4)degrees, V= 16983(13) Angstrom(3), and Dc = 1.35 gcm(-3) for Z = 12. The crystal structure was solved by direct methods to final R = 0.083, R omega = 0.095. There are two kinds of trinuclear species in the unit cell. One is valence delocalized with Ni(2)-O(2) 1.86(2) Angstrom and Mn-O(2) 1.92(1) Angstrom (average value of Mn(II)-O and Mn(III)-O). The other is valence localized with Ni(III)-O(1) 1.84(1) Angstrom, Mn(III)-O(1) 1.88(1) Angstrom and Mn(II)-O(1) 1.97(1)Angstrom. Variable temperature (1.5-300K) magnetic susceptibilities indicated an antiferromagnetic exchange interaction among the three metal ions.

Abstract:Two acetylenedicarboxylate complexes, [Mn2(C4O4)(phen)4(H2O)2](ClO4)2·H2O (1) and [Cu(C4O4)(2,2′-bpy)]n (2), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses and IR spectra. MnII ions have distorted octahedral coordination geometry and bridged by C4O42− to form a binuclear structure. Thermal analysis shows C4O42− released in the range of 180–280°C. CuII is five-coordinated by 2,2′-bipyridine and three oxygen atoms from three different C4O42− ligands, leading to a square-pyramidal coordination geometry. Each C4O42− links three CuII centers through bifunctional carboxylate to form a polymeric structure of (4,4) layers with nodes being dimer of Cu2O2 and bridges of C4O42−. Its variable-temperature magnetism was also investigated.

Abstract:A new complex [Mn(CuL)(3)] [Mn(H2O)(6)][N(CN)(2)](2)(ClO4)(2) 4H(2)O (L = 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane-2, 3-dione) has been synthesized and structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction. The complex crystallizes in monoclinic, space group C2/c with a = 22.295(5), b = 12.852(3), c = 20.109(4) Angstrom, beta = 90.47(3)degrees and Z = 4. Three neutral copper(II) complexes of tetraazamacrocyclic oxamide coordinate to the manganese(II) ion with six carbonyl oxygen atoms with the Mn-O bond distances ranging from 2.190(6) to 2.208(5) Angstrom. Perchlorate anions are posited within the layers formed by the regular arrangement of [Mn(CuL)(3)](2+) moieties. The oxygen atoms of perchlorate ions semi-coordinate to copper(II) (Cu-O: 2.902 to 2.996 Angstrom) and link the [Mn(CuL)(3)](2+) units, generating a two-dimensional structure. [Mn(H2O)(6)](2+), dca(-) (dicyanamide anion) and water are distributed between the layers to form many H-bonds which connect the layers into a three-dimensional network. Magnetic studies show the presence of antiferromagnetic interaction between the Cu(II) and Mn(II) ions. Best fit to the experimental data by using the Hamiltonian (H) over cap = -2J(MnCu)(S) over cap (Mn)((S) over cap (Cu1) + (S) over cap (Cu2) + (S) over cap (Cu3)) gives the coupling constant J(MnCu) of -17 cm(-1).

Abstract:The complex [Mn 3 (CH 3 CO 2 ) 2 (bpc) 2 (py) 4 (H 2 O) 2 ]·0.5H 2 O (bpc 2− = 2,2′-bipyridyl-3,3′-dicarboxylate, py = pyridine) has been prepared. Single crystal X-ray analysis revealed a novel linear trinuclear manganese(II) structure, in which each pair of manganese atoms is bridged by an acetate group in the familiar bidentate fashion and by two carboxylate groups of two different bpc ions in the less common unidentate fashion. Each manganese atom has an octahedral environment. The magnetic susceptibility data (4.2–300 K) have been fitted with J = −1.43 cm −1 and g = 1.95, based on the spin Hamiltonian H = −2 J S 1 (S 2 + S 2a ).

Abstract:A new mixed-valence [Mn9] cluster of formulae [Mn9O(OH)3Cl4(N3)3(hmp)6(dpkd)3]·1.5CH3CN·3H2O (1·1.5CH3CN·3H2O, where hmp− and dpkd2− are the anion of 2-hydroxymethylpyridine and the dianion of the gem-diol form of the dpk, respectively) has been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectra, elemental analysis and magnetic measurements. Single-crystal structural analysis shows that complex 1 contains a [Mn9] core with a new structural topology in the Mn clusters, in which the centered six MnIII atoms compose a trigonal antiprism and the peripheral residual three MnII atoms can be seen as the skirt hem of this antiprism. DC magnetic susceptibility studies indicate that the overall antiferromagnetic interactions between Mn ions are present in the cluster. Fitting the data of magnetization and extrapolation of the χM′T suggest the spin ground states of S=3.5, and no out-of-phase (χM″) signals are present in the alternating current (AC) susceptibility.

Abstract:A new mixed-valence heterotrinuclear complex [Mn III Co III Mn II O(PhCOO) 6 Py 3 ] was first synthesized by using NBu 4 MnO 4 as the oxidizer. In the reaction, Co II ions were oxidized to Co III , while Mn VII were reduced to Mn II and Mn III . The oxidation number of three metal ions were +3, +3 and +2, which was proved by the electrical conductivity. There are two types of trinuclear species in the single cell. One is valence delocalized in which the bond distance Co(2)O(2) is 1.85(2) Å and the distance MO is 1.933(9) Å, which is an average value of Mn II O and Mn III O; another is valence-localized in which the bond distance of Co III O is 1.84(1), Mn III O, 1.86(1), Mn II O, 1.99(1) Å. Variable temperature (1.5–300 K) magnetic susceptibility indicated that there is antiferromagnetic exchange interaction among the three metal ions.

Through the alternate oxalate bridges, the Mn(II) ions form a zig-zag one-dimensional chain, while the other two coordination sites of the Mn(II) ion are occupied by two oxygen atoms from L2- of [CuL(H2O)], giving rise to a mixed oxalate- and oxamido-bridged one-dimensional bimetallic complex. Magnetic studies show the presence of anti-ferromagnetic interaction between the Cu (II) and Mn (II) ions and between the adjacent Mn (II) ions. Best fit to the experimental data by means of MAGPACK software gives the magnetic coupling constant of J(Cu-Mn) = -13. 1 cm(-1) and J(Mn-Mn)= -0. 87 cm(-1).

Abstract:The title complex Mn2(mu-OCH3)2(MP-MP)2(DMSO)2, 1, (MP-MP2- = bis(2-oxyphenvl)disulfide) was obtained by the reaction of Mn(CH3CO2)24H2O, H2MP (o-mercaptophenol) and NaOMe in the mixed solvent DMSO/CH3OH. The structure of 1 was determined by X-rav diffraction methods. Crystal data: C30H34Mn2O8S6, triclinic, P1BAR, a = 8.410(1), b = 8.738(1), c = 12.588 (2)angstrom, a = 82.85(1), beta = 85.78(1), y = 72.38 (1)-degrees, V = 874.1 angstrom3, Z = 1, M(r) = 824.86, d(x) = 1.57 g/cm3, F(000) = 424, mu (Mo Kalpha) = 10.8 cm-1, R(R(w)) = 0.057(0.061). The molecule consists of two monomers, Mn(OCH3)(MP-MP)(DMSO), bridged by the methoxide groups. Each Mp-Mp2- ligand provides two phenolate oxygen atoms and one disulfide sulfur atom to the manganese(III) ion in the Mn2(mu-OMe)2 unit. The effective magnetic moment is mu(eff) = 4.24 mu(B) per Mn(III) ion at room temperature.

Abstract:Two 2D coordination polymetic networks compounds of [Na3Mn6III(mu(6)-O)(thme)(4)(PhCO2)(6)(H2O)]center dot OH (1) and [(NaMn4Mn8O2)-Mn-III-O-II(thme)(4)(N-3)(OAc)(8)(AcOH)(2)(CH3O)(4)] (2) with 1,1,1-tris(hydroxymethyl)-methane (H(3)thme) as the ligand have been synthesized and structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction, IR spectra, and elemental analyses, where the homovalence hexanuclear Mn cluster in compound I and the mixed-valence dodecanuclear Mn cluster in compound 2 acted respectively as network nodes in the formation of honeycomb-shaped and rhombic grid-like layer structures. In addition, magnetic studies of I reveal that antiferromagnetically coupled paramagnetic cluster behavior is operative within the hexameric Mn-6 cluster and 2 exhibits antiferromagnetic coupling interactions and interesting frequency dependent in-phase as well as out-of-phase susceptibility signals are observed, respectively.

Abstract:Preparation and magnetic properties of the trinuclear oxo-centered manganese complexes [Mn3O(O2CR)(6)L-3](z+) (1, R = Me, L=3-methylpyridine, z = 1: 2, R = Et, L = 3-methylpyridine z = 1; for 1 and 2 the counteranion is ClO4-; 3, R = Ph, L = 3-methylpyridine and water, z = 0; 4, R = CH2Cl, L = 3-methylpyridine and water, z = 0), prepared by N-n-Bu4MnO4 with appropriate reagents in ethanol and 3-methelpyridine, are reported. The crystal structures of complexes 1 and 2 have been determined. It is shown that complexes 1 and 2 possess an oxo-centered Mn3O unit with peripheral ligands provided by bridging carboxylate and terminal 3-methylpyridine groups, and: an approximate three-fold symmetry axis for the whole cluster. The variable temperature magnetic susceptibility of the four title complexes in the range 1.5-300 K has been interpreted in terms of the Kambe vector-coupling method and Van Vleck equation, and the J' (cm(-1)) and g values are found to be - 12.87, 2.22 for complex 1 and - 12.31, 2.12 for complex 2, respectively. For complexes 3 and 4 the J (cm(-1)), J' (cm(-1)), g values are found to be - 5.787, - 8.706, 2.09, and - 4.62, - 8.198, 2.09, respectively. The derived J and J' exchange parameters are all small in magnitude, both \J\ and \J'\ <9 cm(-1) where J characterizes the Mn-II-Mn-III interaction and J' characterizes the Mn-III-Mn-III interaction. Magnetization measurements up to 65 kG at 1.5 K show the ground state S = 3/2 for complexes 3 and 4. These results indicate a weakly antiferromagnetic exchange coupling among the manganese ions. Abstract:Two new metal complexes with mixed nitrogen-donor heterocyclic monocarboxylate and dicarboxylate ligands {[Co2(L)2(BDC)(H2O)]·2H2O·6DMF}n (1) and [Mn(L)(OX)0.5]n (2) (HL=3,5-di(pyridine-4-yl)benzoic acid, H2BDC=1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid, H2OX=oxalic acid) have been prepared and characterized by single crystal and powder X-ray diffractions, IR, and thermogravimetric analyses. Crystallographic and topological analyses identify that both complexes have new framework topologies. Complex 1 is a (3,8)-connected 2-nodal 3D net with a point (Schläfli) symbol of (42.5)2(44.510.67.76.8), while 2 is a (4,5)-connected binodal net with a point (Schläfli) symbol of (42.63.8)(42.65.83). Furthermore, magnetic investigation shows that both complexes exhibit overall weak antiferromagnetic coupling between the adjacent metal centers.
