Abstract:After summarizing the characteristics of IT competition, e.g. zero margin, the balance of one-polarizing and multi-polarizing, the paper identified several classic competitive strategies dominant modern IT firms use, and then the author held that the dominant competitive model Chinese IT firms use is to clone the strategies of Northern American IT firms. At the end of the paper, the author argued that Chinese firms should catch up with its Northern American counterparts through innovation in management, technology and industry organization.

Abstract:E-finance is a driving force that is changing the landscape of the finance industry fundamentally, in particular, towards a more competitive industry. E-finance has blurred the boundaries between different financial institutions, enabled new financial products and services, and made existing financial services available in different packages. But we think the influences of e-finance go far beyond this. The developments in e-finance, together with other financial innovations, are constantly bringing new challenges to finance theory and changing people's understanding of the financial system. In this paper we suggest a new perspective on financial intermediation and markets. We discuss why and how this new framework of analysis may shed light on the understanding of finance in the age of the internet and IT revolution as well as help explain the financial innovations seen in the past few decades. We also examine competition issues and what strategies financial institutions should adopt. 2. A new perspective on financial intermediation We propose a new perspective on financial intermediation in which both traditional intermediaries and financial markets can be examined in a unified approach. The present theory of financial intermediation based on the idea of the perfect market posits the role of intermediaries as one that alleviates market imperfections. Meanwhile, research on market microstructure, which studies closely how markets function and operate, illuminates the market mechanism. We think that the traditional distinction between the intermediaries and markets hampers finance theory in explaining the fast and constantly changing financial system. Financial markets, like all other markets, are created and operated by people and therefore are essentially firms. They are a special type of financial intermediary with higher transparency and efficiency. On the other hand, traditional financial intermediaries, by matching savers and borrowers, are also providing market-making services, though in a more opaque way. Embracing both traditional intermediaries and markets in one framework, this new perspective enables better understanding of the financial system and makes it possible to solve long-time puzzles in finance theory. Instead of patching and modifying a theory that is constantly challenged by new developments, this more integrated and consistent conceptual framework tends to explain well the revolution that is taking place in the finance industry.

Impact of Information Technology Integration and Lean/Just-In-Time Practices on Lead-Time Performance

Abstract:Managers seeking to improve lead-time performance are challenged by how to balance resources and investments between process improvement achieved through lean/just-in-time (JIT) practices and information technology (IT) deployment. However, extant literature provides little guidance on this question. Motivated by both practical importance and lack of academic research, this article examines empirically the relationships among interfirm IT integration, intrafirm IT integration, lean/JIT practices, and lead-time performance using data from IndustryWeek's Census of Manufacturers (IndustryWeek, 2006). The results provide several new insights on the relationship between IT integration and lean/JIT practices. First, the study confirms that implementing lean/JIT practices significantly reduces lead time. Second, lean/JIT practices mediate the influence of IT integration on lead-time performance. This suggests that process improvements that result from lean/JIT practices are important contributors to the success of IT integration. Even companies that have experienced success in reducing lead time through lean/JIT practices may benefit from IT integration practices such as those embodied in enterprise resource planning systems. The findings provide managers with empirical evidence and a theoretical framework on the balance between lean/JIT and IT for effecting improvement in lead-time performance, thus offering practical guidance on this important question. Future research is needed to extend the lean/JIT practices in this study to supply chain practices and explore the relationship between supply chain practices and IT integration.

Abstract:The Chinese term for ‘internet finance’ was coined by Ping Xie and Chuanwei Zou (2012) at the 2012 Annual Conference of the China Finance 40 Forum. It now enjoys a place in public discourse alongside such phrases as ‘digital finance’ and ‘fintech’, which are often used outside China. The context for the use of ‘internet finance’, however, is somewhat richer, as internet finance can refer to both information technology (IT) companies providing financial services, such as WeChatPay, and financial institutions applying IT to their more traditional services, such as the e-ICBC service of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC). Narrow definitions of internet finance nonetheless embrace a wide range of activities, including third-party payment, online lending, direct sales of funds, crowd-funding, online insurance and banking and digital money. Our discussion in this chapter focuses on the potential of internet finance in China.

Abstract:With the development of Internet technology and computer technology, the network has provided convenience to enterprises while putting forward new requirements for the development of the accounting industry. The combination of traditional financial accounting methods and computerized information technology enables accurate and rapid transmission of financial data. At the same time, the application of network technology optimizes the financial accounting process of enterprises and greatly improves the efficiency of accounting work and accountants can devote more time and energy to the analysis of enterprise financial information. Abstract:In this paper,we study the impact and lag effect of IT investments on firm profitability,from two determining dimensions,i.e.,revenue and expenses.By examining data of Chinese public companies,we find that IT investments have significant and sustaining effect on firm revenue growth.However,IT investments also lead to an increase in operating expenses.With regard to firm profitability,the contribution of IT is increasing over years,and becomes significant from the third year after investment.Furthermore,we find that IT investments have much stronger effects on firm performance than non-IT investments.Compared with manufacturing sectors,firms in non-manufacturing sectors have much better IT performance in terms of the sustaining significant growth in both sales revenue and profits.

Abstract:Technology and Information are vital to the success of companies. To leverage the successes in IT projects, companies have at their disposal, references globally accepted as good practices (COBIT, ITIL, PMBOK, ISO, TOGAF, etc.). In spite of this, it is still great the magnitude of spending on IT projects poorly designed or improperly implemented. This paper presents a brief description of standards and good practices related to governance and management of enterprise IT, defines the Lean Thinking, Lean IT, the Processes Management, the Portfolio, Program and Project Management, and the Work System Theory, and highlights the purpose of them, showing their characteristics and suggests a Framework of Lean Governance and Management of Enterprise IT, by demonstrating how the standards and good practices presented can work together, because it advocates that the Lean Thinking, the Process, Portfolio, Program, and Project Management, and the Work System Theory complement the standards and good practices of Governance and Management of Enterprise IT with an approach not referenced in these standards and good practices.
