Abstract:In this paper, we give a complete description for the lexicographic world L = {(x; y) is an element of Sigma x Sigma:Sigma (xy) not equal 0} = {(x; y) :y greater than or equal to phi (x)}; where Sigma = {0, 1}(N), Sigma (ab) = {x is an element of Sigma :a less than or equal to sigma (i) (x) less than or equal to b; for all i greater than or equal to 0}, phi : Sigma --> Sigma is defined by phi (a) = inf {b : Sigma (ab) not equal 0} and the order less than or equal to is the lexicographic order on Sigma. The main result is that b = phi (a) for some a = 0x if and only if b is the Sturmian sequence b such that Orb(b) subset of [0x; 1x] and sigma (i) (b) less than or equal to b for all i greater than or equal to 0. At the same time, a new description of Sturmian minimal sets is given. A minimal set M is a Sturmian minimal set if and only if, for some x is an element of Sigma, M subset of [0x, 1x]. Moreover, for any x is an element of Sigma, there exists a unique Sturmian minimal set in [0x, 1x].
