Study on Peroxidase Isozyme of Leaves between Parents and Progenies of Populus L.

Abstract:The peroxidase isozyme of leaves and its relationship with growth and heterosis of 6 Populus L.full-sib families were determined by means of polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.The results indicated that the tested individuals and families differed significantly in number,Rf,activity or width of the enzyme bands,even though some of them within a same family.Band type of progenies were mainly parental complementary.Therefore,POD isozyme can be used to identify their inheritable relationships.Our results also revealed POD isozyme was inclined to motherhood heredity,because the similarity coefficient between progenies and their mothers were higher than that between progenies and their fathers.Significant correlations between numbers and activities of isozyme bands with growth of collar-root diameters have been found in the present study,correlation coefficient was 0.89 and 0.83 respectively.Correspondingly,correlations between number and activities of isozyme bands with heterosis of growth of collar-root diameters were also significantly,correlation coefficient was 0.88 and 0.84 respectively.Whereas correlation between number and activities of isozyme bands with height growth,as well as its heterosis was insignificantly.We also observed insignificant correlations between spectral pattern of POD with growth and heterosis.Therefore,we thought it was unreasonable to identify growth and heterosis of Populus L.only by numbers,activities and spectral pattern of POD bands.
