Abstract:1,4-Diaryl-1,3-butadiynes react with cyclic amines, such as pyrrolidine, piperidine, and morpholine in the presence of a catalytic amount of CuCl to afford amino-substituted naphthalene derivatives with good to high yields. The new catalytic procedure provides an atom-economic, one-pot synthetic method for the synthesis of naphthalene derivatives from easily available 1,4-diaryl-1,3-butadiynes.

Abstract:A three-component reaction of one molecule of imine and two molecules of alkynoates is realized with the catalysis of Cu(I)–Fe(III) in a sequential manner to allow the direct synthesis of functionalized pyrroles, during which, one C–N bond and two C–C bonds are formed with high atom economy. This method benefits from easily available starting materials, low-cost catalysts, and convenient operations.

Abstract:A mild and efficient 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO)-catalyzed three-component domino reaction was developed for the synthesis of highly functionalized NH-pyrroles from arylglyoxal monohydrates, enamino esters, and cyclic 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds in 1,4-dioxane at room temperature for 0.5 hours. Various substituted NH-pyrroles were obtained in moderate to good yields.

Abstract:Cycloaddition reactions of alkynes are elegant, atom-efficient transformations for the synthesis of carbo- and heterocycles, mostly aromatic, involving the construction of challenging skeletons of complex molecules. Therefore significant efforts have recently been devoted to the development of novel methodologies, efficient strategies and different catalytic systems to broaden the scope of these reactions. We summarize in this review the recent advances in the cycloaddition reactions of 1,3-butadiynes to provide facile and reliable approaches to various functionalized carbo- and heterocycles.

Abstract:[4 + 1] Cycloaddition of alpha,beta-unsaturated imidoyl cyanide (2-cyano-1-azadienes) with isocyanides in the presence of a catalytic amount of AlCl(3) afforded polysubstituted 2-amino-5-cyanopyrroles in good to excellent yields. In combination with the IBX/TBAB-mediated oxidative Strecker reaction, this important heterocycle is readily synthesized in two steps from simple starting materials.

Abstract:Reactions between 1,4-dibromo-1,3-butadienes and 2,5-disubstituted pyrroles afforded cyclopenta[c]pyridine derivatives in high yield, catalyzed by palladium and a cyclopentadiene-phosphine ligand (L1). Insertion of one terminal carbon of the butadienyl skeleton into one C═C double bond in the pyrrole ring resulted in ring expansion, along with a 1,2-shift of an alkyl or an aryl substituent on the butadienes.

Abstract:Under mild conditions, C3-quaternary 2H-pyrrolines can be convergently and efficiently assembled by Cu(II) and weak bases cocatalyzed [3+2] cycloaddition of 1,1-disubstituted alkenes and isocyanoacetates. Abstract:Reported herein is a synthetic method of poly-substituted pyrroles from easily available materials, 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and primary amines, via electro-oxidative intermolecular annulation. Under similar conditions, enamines are also converted smoothly into desired products, indicating that in situ formed enamines are crucial intermediates for the first transformation. Neither transition-metal salts nor harsh conditions are required to facilitate the dehydrocyclization process.

Abstract:An unprecedented cascade strategy, used in conjunction with a redox isomerization, for the synthesis of 3-allyl pyrroles is reported. In a single step, readily accessible simple starting materials are transformed into highly substituted pyrroles with high efficiency. Abstract:Described here is a Cu-catalyzed [2 + 2 + 1] modular synthesis of full-substituted β-pyrrolinones from simple amines, alkynes, and α-diazo-β-ketoesters. This approach involving the regioselective C-nucleophilic attack of enamines, uncommon C-nucleophilic addition to ketenes, and umpolung of imines enables the direct synthesis of full-substituted β-pyrrolinones, which were hardly constructed by traditional synthetic strategies.

Abstract:A highly efficient protocol for the synthesis of pyrrolidones by the copper‐catalyzed alkynylation/annulation of aliphatic amides with alkynyl carboxylic acids is discussed in this paper. A broad range of easily accessible alkynyl carboxylic acids were introduced at the β‐methyl group of aliphatic amides with the assistance of an 8‐aminoquinolyl auxiliary group via decarboxylation to achieve the subsequent cyclic CN bond formation within one hour. High selectivity of β‐methyl groups over methylene groups was observed, and the extension of this catalytic system to the activation of methylene CH bonds failed. The substrates with two different groups at the α‐position of the aliphatic amides lead to the formation of diastereoisomers which is determined by 1H NMR spectroscopy. The initially produced products with Z‐configurations can be easily transformed to the corresponding products with E‐configurations by the treatment with dilute p‐toluenesulfonic acid after the reaction. This catalytic tandem decarboxylative cyclization provides a new opportunity for the direct functionalization of sp3 CH bonds.

Abstract:A general and practical synthetic method for aryl-substituted five-membered heterocycles has been developed. In the presence of KOH (30%), 1,4-diaryl-1,3-butadiynes undergo the cyclocondensation reaction with water, primary amines, and Na2S center dot 9H(2)O in DMSO at 80 degrees C to afford 2,5-diarylfurans, 1,2,5-trisubstituted pyrroles, and 2,5-diarylthiophenes in good to high yields. Further studies have disclosed that aryl-substituted five-membered heterocycles can be also synthesized by a one-pot, two-step strategy from the terminal alkynes in DMSO firstly catalyzed by Cucl, and then via addition of KOH to promote the cyclocondensation of 1,3-butadiynes generated in situ.
