The Relationship Between Executive Functions and Arithmetical Cognitive Strategies of Children

Abstract:This study examined the relationship between executive functions and arithmetical cognitive strategies under two conditions,with and without a working-memory load on the central executive of primary second-grade children.The results showed that 1) There was a negative relation between dual-task coordination performance and quit times of children under the working-memory load condition.2) The better switch strategy function the children had,the more flexibly they applied the arithmetical strategies.3) Children with stronger inhabitation function were better in using retrieval-type strategies.4) There was a positive relation between memory updating score and strategies execution accuracy under the condition with a working-memory load on the central executive.These results indicated that executive functions were related to children's arithmetical cognitive strategies.
