Primary assessment of international affective picture system in Chinese young soldiers

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the primary application of international affective picture system(IAPS)in Chinese young soldiers.Methods A total of 123 Chinese young health soldiers,at an age of 16 to 28(mean 20.97±2.86),including 67 males and 56 males were recruited in this study.Totally 300 pictures,including 100 positive,neutral and negative pictures for each group,were exacted from Chinese modified IAPS,and 30 pictures from these 300 ones with 10 for each group were draw for the stability of the assessment.The rated valence,arousal and dominance of these soldiers were reported by themselves in a 9-point rating scale.Results The scores of pre and post rating were strongly correlated(P<0.01).The scores of valence,arousal and dominance did not predict markedly difference among the 3 rating sequences in dimension(P>0.05).The present study was strongly correlated with Chinese general sample ratings,and the Pearson coefficients were 0.915,0.833 and 0.828 respectively.Compared with Chinese general sample,the scores of arousal and dominance were decreased significantly in young soldiers.There were significant differences among positive,neutral and negative picture rating(P<0.01).In the sequence of positive,neutral and negative pictures,the scores presented a decline in valence and dominance,and a trend as "V" in arousal.Conclusion IAPS presents expected stability in rating,excellent differentiation in 3 dimensions and young soldiers' rating,and high population-accessibity in the sample of Chinese young soldiers.
