Abstract:The Newton method for variational inequality problem is locally and quadratically convergent. By using a differentiable merit function, Taji, Fukushima and Ibaraki([1]) have given a globally convergent modified Newton method for the strongly monotone variational inequality problem and proved their method to be quadratically convergent under some additional assumptions. In this paper we propose to present a trust region-type modification of Newton method for the strictly monotone variational inequality problem using the same merit function as that in [1]. It is then shown that our method is well defined and globally convergent and that, under the same assumptions as those in [1], our algorithm reduces to the basic Newton method and hence the rate of convergence is quadratic. Computational experimence indicates the efficiency of the proposed method.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss variational inequality (VI) problems without monotonicity from the perspective of convergence of projection-type algorithms. In particular, we identify existing conditions as well as present new conditions that are sufficient to guarantee convergence. The first half of the paper focuses on the case where a Minty solution exists (also known as Minty condition), which is a common assumption in the recent developments for non-monotone VI. The second half explores alternative sufficient conditions that are different from the existing ones such as monotonicity or Minty condition, using an algorithm-based approach. Through examples and convergence analysis, we show that these conditions are capable of characterizing different classes of VI problems where the algorithms are guaranteed to converge.

Abstract:We use contractions to regularize a class of monotone variational inequalities, where the monotone operators are complements of nonexpansive mappings and the solutions are sought in the set of fixed points of another nonexpansive mapping. Such variational inequalities include monotone inclusions and convex optimization problems to be solved over the fixed point sets of nonexpansive mappings. Both implicit and explicit schemes are shown to be strongly convergent. An application in hierarchical minimization is included.

Abstract:A mixed monotone variational inequality (MMVI) problem in a Hilbert space is formulated to find a point such that for all , where is a monotone operator and is a proper, convex, and lower semicontinuous function on . Iterative algorithms are usually applied to find a solution of an MMVI problem. We show that the iterative algorithm introduced in the work of Wang et al., (2001) has in general weak convergence in an infinite-dimensional space, and the algorithm introduced in the paper of Noor (2001) fails in general to converge to a solution.

Abstract:The paper is concerned with the problem of finding a common solution of a variational inequality problem governed by inverse strongly monotone operators and of a fixed point problem of nonexpansive mappings. Two new iterative algorithms are introduced to solve the problem. Moreover, it is proved the sequence generated by each of the algorithms converges in norm to a solution closest to the anchor from the common solution set. Applications to strict pseudocontractions, the split feasibility problem, and the convexly constrained linear inverse problem are included.

We also introduce an iterative method as discretization of the regularization method. We prove that both regularization and iterative methods converge in norm.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce two classes of variational-like inequalities with generalized monotone mappings in Banach spaces. Using the KKM technique, we obtain the existence of solutions for variational-like inequalities with relaxed η–α monotone mappings in reflexive Banach spaces. We present also the solvability of variational-like inequalities with relaxed η–α semimonotone mappings in arbitrary Banach spaces by means of the Kakutani-Fan-Glicksberg fixed-point theorem. The results presented in this paper extend and improve the corresponding results of Refs. 1–6.

The results presented in this paper improve, extend, and unify many known results in this area.

Abstract:In this paper, a new monotonicity, M-monotonicity, is introduced, and the resolvent operator of an M-monotone operator is proved to be single valued and Lipschitz continuous. With the help of the resolvent operator, an equivalence between the variational inequality VI(C,F+G) and the fixed point problem of a nonexpansive mapping is established. A proximal point algorithm is constructed to solve the fixed point problem, which is proved to have a global convergence under the condition that F in the VI problem is strongly monotone and Lipschitz continuous. Furthermore, a convergent path Newton method, which is based on the assumption that the projection mapping ∏C(⋅) is semismooth, is given for calculating ε-solutions to the sequence of fixed point problems, enabling the proximal point algorithm to be implementable.

Abstract:We study the problem of finding a common solution to the variational inequality problem with a pseudomonotone and Lipschitz continuous operator and the fixed point problem with a demicontractive mapping in real Hilbert spaces. Inspired by the inertial method and the subgradient extragradient method, two improved viscosity-type efficient iterative methods with a new adaptive non-monotonic step size criterion are proposed. We prove that the strong convergence theorems of these new methods hold under some standard and mild conditions. Numerical examples in finite- and infinite-dimensional spaces are provided to illustrate the effectiveness and potential applicability of the suggested iterative methods compared to some known ones.

We construct the algorithm for solving this kind of generalized set-valued strongly nonlinear implicit variational inequality problem by using the auxiliary principle technique of Glowinski, Lions, and Tremolieres, prove the existence of solutions for this class of generalized set-valued strongly nonlinear implicit variational inequalities and the convergence of iterative sequences generated by the algorithm.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce and study a new class of generalized nonlinear quasivariational inequalities and establish the existence of a unique solution for the generalized nonlinear quasivariational inequality involving relaxed Lipschitz, relaxed monotone and strongly monotone mappings. We construct a perturbed three-step iteration algorithm with errors by using the projection method and obtain the convergence and stability of the iterative sequence generated by the algorithm. Our results extend, improve and unify important known results in this field.

Abstract:Invex monotonicity and pseudoinvex monotonicity of fuzzy mappings are introduced in this paper, and relations are discussed between invex monotonicity (pseudoinvex monotonicity) and invexity (pseudoinvexity) of fuzzy mappings. The existence of a solution to the fuzzy variational-like inequality is discussed, and the existence theorem can be achieved. Furthermore, some extended properties of the fuzzy variational-like inequality are researched. Finally, method of solution is discussed based on genetic algorithm.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce regularization methods for finding a point, being not only a solution for a monotone variational inequality problem but also a common zero for an infinite family of inverse strongly monotone non-self operators of a closed convex subset in a real Hilbert space. In these methods, only a finite number of the operators is used at each iteration step. Applications to the problem of common fixed point for an infinite family of strictly pseudo-contractive non-self operators and the split feasibility and fixed point problems are considered. As a particular case, a regularization extragradient iterative method without prior knowledge of operator norms for solving the split feasibility problem (SFP) is obtained. Numerical examples are given for illustration.

Abstract:In this paper, we present two modified algorithms for finding a common element of the solution set of a quasimonotone variational inequality and the fixed point set of demicontractive mapping. The main advantage of such iterative methods is that it does not require Lipschitz continuity and the mapping only needs to be quasimonotonicity. Therefore, our algorithms can be applied to more general variational inequalities. Several numerical experiments are provided to verify the preponderance and efficiency of the proposed algorithms.

Abstract:We present a simple iterative method for solving quasimonotone as well as classical variational inequalities without monotonicity. Strong convergence analysis is given under mild conditions and thus generalize the few existing results that only present weak convergence methods under restrictive assumptions. We give finite and infinite dimensional numerical examples to compare and illustrate the simplicity and computational advantages of the proposed scheme.
