Abstract:Objective:To summarize results of treating distal tibial fractures with domestic modified tibial interlocking intramedullary nail.Methods:From April 2009 to August 2012,21 cases of distal tibial fractures were treated with modified tibial interlocking intramedullary nail,including 12 male and 9 female.The mean age of the patients was 44.7 years(range 21 to 63 years).According to the AO / OTA fracture classification,there were 9 cases in type 43A1,2 cases in type 43A2,4 cases in type 43A3,6 cases in type 43C1.Two cases were open fractures and were classified as grade I according to the system of Gustilo.Results:All the cases were followed up for averaging 16.5 months(12-24months).The mean operation time was 80 min(60-120min).The averaging blood loss was 100ml(50-200ml).All fractures healed,the averaging healing time was 16 weeks(1220weeks).The postoperative alignment of 17 fractures was satisfactory,one case had >5° valgus angulation,one case shortened 1cm.The mean time of weight bearing was 15.4 weeks(11-20weeks).All the cases had no infection,breakage of screws and so on.According to Johner-Wruhs scores system,there were 15 excellent cases,4 good cases,2 fair cases,the excellent and good rate was 90.4%.Conclusion:Modified tibial interlocking intramedullary nail is an effectively way in treatment of distal tibial fractures,and it has the advantage of less trauma,shorter operative time,fewer complications,high rate of fracture healing and has good restoration after surgery.
