Abstract:Bilingual education plays a key role in providing international-oriented talents today. However, due to the lack of experience and short-time of practice, bilingual education faces many challenges and difficulties in Chinese universities. Particularly some courses involve differences across countries and hence bring serious questions on whether we should and how we could bring out bilingual education accordingly. Based on the first-hand experience of bilingual lecturing on financial statements analysis in an independent college, the paper points out the challenges in bilingual education due to course feature and students status, and proposes solutions from an application-training perspective .

Abstract:Given the very unified and predominantly monolingual character of Chinese culture, bilingual instruction in China did not exist until very recently. Now, due to the much closer links with the West and following a recent directive from the Chinese Government, it is becoming a reality. The successful introduction of bilingual instruction by Zhejian University shows that it can be done, despite the failure or only partial success of so many other universities. We endeavour to identify the factors that determine the effective application of bilingual instruction and the problems that may be encountered. We make a number of recommendations and propose viable solutions to the difficulties.

Abstract:Although the traditional lecture prevails in higher education as the most popular teaching method, recent technological advances have made possible blended or hybrid learning classrooms, in which students learn at least in part through online delivery of content. Online course construction is one of the quality projects from Education Department, which is of great significance for the improvement of teaching quality in university and achievement of talent developing objectives. Facing the reality of popularization in higher education, and combining with the opportunity of online course construction in our university, the online teaching system for Methods of Mathematical Physics (Complex Variables Functions and Integral Transform) is designed with Chaoxing Online Platform. The teaching effect between online flipped classroom and traditional lecture based classroom is also compared with statistical analysis. The results show that the flipped classroom has great advantages both in the scores of final exam and the evaluation of course teaching.

Abstract:This study discusses the application value and necessity of experiential teaching method in English classroom teaching in Chinese universities. Based on experiential teaching method, this study focuses on 40 non-English major sophomore students from a university in China. The translation section of the College English Test Band 4 (CET-4) is used as cultural input material to design specific teaching activities for introducing Chinese culture in English classroom teaching at the university level. Combining specific teaching designs, the advantages of applying experiential teaching method in university English classrooms are proposed, such as optimizing and innovating teaching modes, creating diverse teaching situations for teaching, exercising students’ language proficiency, enriching and optimizing teaching content, and breaking the traditional teaching mode of ‘spoon-feeding’ and increasing the frequency of interaction between teachers and students.

Abstract:Abstract Today, with China’s increasing international influence, the number of international students coming to China is increasing, and the cause of Chinese language education for foreigners is booming. Taking the multimodal theory as the guiding principle, the article establishes an immersion teaching mode for Chinese as a foreign language by analyzing the characteristics of a comprehensive elementary Chinese language course. Sixteen students from the College of International Education of University T were selected as the research subjects, and the design of teaching methods and teaching processes based on the immersion teaching model, as well as the design of a comparative experiment on the teaching of the comprehensive elementary Chinese language class were carried out. The composite mean score of the Chinese post-test scores of the class based on the immersion teaching mode was 87.89, with an overall mean score increase of 22.39 points, and the students’ grammar test scores increased by a total of 4.02 times from the 1st week to the 16th week. The mean value of students’ satisfaction with the instructional design was 4.432 points, and 89.39% of international students expressed their approval of the immersion teaching mode. Taking the multimodal theory as a guide and combining the immersion teaching mode to realize the efficient interaction between teachers and students provides a new path to improve the dChinese language mastery and cross-cultural awareness of international students in China.

Abstract:The construction of "Emerging Engineering Education" aims at cultivating high-quality graduates capable of engineering practice, innovation and international competitiveness. Bilingual courses have become one of the effective means to cultivate qualified students with skills of both professional knowledge and international communication. However, the teaching effect of most bilingual courses is not very ideal. Based on analyzing common problems in the current bilingual teaching, we take the bilingual course of environmental biotechnology as an example, and discusses possible improvement strategies from the aspects of the construction of teaching mode, the establishment of quality control system, the selection of textbooks and the optimization of assessment methods. Moreover, we summarize experience and shortcomings on improving the lecturers' ability, students' learning enthusiasm and school's support. It is expected to provide useful reference for improving the effect of bilingual teaching in biotechnology-relevant courses.

Abstract:The theoretical bases for the thesis are cross-cultural foreign language education theory, systemic education theory and multimedia-assisted English teaching theory. At first, the thesis summarizes and analyzes every unit involving cultural knowledge in College English textbook Oxford English used in Shanghai at present, demonstrating the feasibility of culture teaching in the elementary stage of College English. Then based on systemic teaching theories, the thesis analyzes teaching aim, teaching demand, teaching environment, teaching content, teaching strategies, evaluative strategies and implementation of culture teaching. Next, the thesis designs specific courses to match daily teaching activities by way of collecting culture teaching materials, designing culture teaching content and relevant teaching strategies. When designing specific courses, I take advice from experts and teachers on the front, develop three teaching cases and use courseware for teaching practice.

Abstract:Integrating intercultural competence in foreign language classrooms has been emphasized in China, yet scant explicit guidance currently exists on how to teach intercultural competence in college English courses. This study aimed at comparing and contrasting intercultural pedagogical approaches used by instructors in English courses for non-English majors, as well as teaching feedback provided by students enrolled in such courses. This study applied a sequential exploratory mixed research design. Methods such as face-to-face interviews and teaching and learning related document analyses were utilized to collect data, and generated qualitative and quantitative data. Three-dimensional meta themes emerged in mixed analysis, categorizing pedagogical approaches and teaching styles of individual instructors. Student feedback revealed learning experiences and difficulties of the teaching approaches.

Abstract:China’s excellent traditional culture has a history of thousands of years, which will have a significant influence on students’ thinking and behavior if integrated into teaching. In this paper, the Numerical Analysis course is taken as the research subject, and the main problems and causes of incorporating traditional culture as well as ideological and political education into teaching are analyzed. At the same time, as a way of integrating science into education, the strategy and specific implementation plan for the integration of traditional culture as well as ideological and political elements into numerical calculation methods are proposed. This provides a new idea and experience for basic mathematical courses in colleges and universities, which plays a role in traditional cultural, ideological, and political education curricula.
