Analysis of the Structural Form and Construction Techniques of the Dome of the Auditorium at Tsinghua University

Abstract:Based on Murphy Papers at Yale University, the first part of this paper discusses the intellectual origins and precedents of Tsinghua's auditorium and the larger historical background in which it was embedded. According to diferent construction methods, the second part delineates a brief history of dome construction in the West up to the early 1920s when the auditorium was erected. The third part, on the basis of field survey and measuring in July 2013, compares the actual dome construction with its original design, deducing possible reasons for distinct diferences.
