Abstract:Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the interrelationships between internet connectedness, online gaming, internet addiction symptoms, and academic performance decrement among the internet-dependent young people in China. Design/methodology/approach – A paper-based survey was conducted among the young clients in one of the earliest and largest internet addiction clinics in China. A total of 594 in-patients (mean age=17.76 y) voluntarily participated in this study. Findings – By adopting the concept of internet connectedness, this study explored the internet use patterns among the young internet addicts, for example, internet café patrons and those who use internet with more goals or higher degree of internet adhesiveness had more internet addiction symptoms. Online gaming was found to play a significant role in the development of internet addiction. As expected, the level of internet addiction is significantly linked to academic performance decrement. Consistent with previous studies, males showed higher degree of internet connectedness and online game usage than females. Noticeably, the moderation effect of online game playing and the mediating effect of internet addiction were also tested. Research limitations/implications – This research is focussed on the internet-dependent group, thus the generalizability of the results need to be interpreted with caution. Practical implications – This study provides insight for parents, educators, health professionals, and policy makers regarding treatment and intervention for internet addiction among young people in China. Originality/value – Since very little research has been done focussing on diagnosed internet-dependent group, this paper scores as a pioneering study of its kind in China.

Abstract:nowadays computer game, as the product of the modern electronic information technology and internet has become a way of entertainment. However, it also brings many negative impacts that more and more college students addicted to online games. Internet game addiction has already become the prominent mental and physical problem of the contemporary undergraduate students, and it also affects the normal social relation and the teaching in school, which has caused the widespread attention of the education community and the society. This paper based on the related researches, analyzed factors that may lead to the university students being addicted to online games. Abstract:Online game is one of the most popular leisure activity for adolescents. Playing it excessively can lead to addiction. Once addicted, behavior problems arise and at a certain level of addiction, psychological treatment will be needed. The aim of this study is to describe online gaming addiction in terms of four levels of addiction. The participants are 41 high school students (12-14 years old) who lived in Jatinangor. They are active players in online games using mobile phones, computers, or other media. Data were collected using an open-ended questionnaire than qualitatively analysed by the way of thematic analysis. Result shows that participants mostly perceived playing online games as a pleasurable and rewarding activity (recreational level of addiction). In this level, there are negative impacts that occur when they are playing online games, but the impacts disappear when they stop playing an online game. In at-risk level, participants feeling the rewarding effects (e.g. stress release). Participants accept when their parents start complaining about their gaming behavior. In problematic use level, the gaming behavior is increasingly done alone and often dismissed parents’ concern about their gaming behavior. In fully addict level, only the amount of time for playing online games reported (8 hours per day). Keywords: addiction, game online, adolescence, online mobile gaming

Abstract:The internet has permeated all aspects of our social lives,and the problems arising from excessive indulgence in internet have increased steadily.The juvenile internet addiction has become a social problem which draws general concern in our society.This paper reviews and evaluates the research on the reasons of juvenile internet addiction as follows: the network,the individual,the family and the society.Network features have led to the tendency of juvenile internet addiction,individual negative personality characteristics and maladaptive-cognition are easy to develop pathological behavior of network.The adverse environment and the way of family education have an important impact on juvenile internet addiction.The lack of social support and interaction and the combat of social life events would encourage young people to depend on network excessively.The deficiency existing in current research is mainly as follows: being at the exploratory stage,the drawback of research methods,the weakness of basic theories and the lack of localization.

Abstract:Objective:To explore in depth the influential factors contributing to addiction to Internet among middle school students in Xuzhou.Methods:There were total 340 4 valid questionnaires with Secondary Sampling.Results: It was found that sex difference was existed among middle school students,the male students were more easily to become addiction to Internet,the younger the students contacted with Internet the more easily addicted to Internet;the mainly places of surfing on Internet were at home and in Internet Bar;educational background of parents and attitudes of them also influenced on addiction to Internet in middle school students;further more,loose supervision and management of school and Internet Bar also easily leaded to addiction to Internet in middle school students.Conclusion: Proportion of middle school students who addicted to Internet was higher,which affected health of middle school students both physically and mentally seriously.It should take long-term,effective and comprehensive measures to prevent and control the harmfulness to students caused by Internet.

Abstract:Online games are one of the most popular forms of entertainment among modern teenagers. If in the past minors played various physical or intellectual games with their peers, today they spend a significant part of their free time on virtual games, which, however, cannot replace human relationships. This issue is a growing concern among the public, as teenagers devote too much time to virtual games, neglecting real life. However, in addition to the loss of time, it is also important to consider the psychological impact of online games. The purpose of this article is to examine the effects of internet gaming on adolescent mental health. 165 people aged 12-17 participated in the research. The method of tests and psychological interviews was applied. Analysis of research results shows that virtual games are addictive and cause addiction among teenagers. The research also indicated that boys are 5% more likely to be addicted to the Internet games than girls. In addition, boys tend to play virtual games that contain battles and the urge to destroy a virtual opponent. Such games have a negative impact on the mental health of adolescents, causing aggression, nervousness, or other destructive manifestations.

Abstract:ObjectivesGame playing is very popular among Hong Kong teenagers. This study aimed to investigate adolescent gaming behavior and addiction at the Internet cafe, and to explore perceived benefits and harms associated with the activity.MethodsA convenient sample of 13 male high school students aged 12–15 years (mean age = 13.6 years) were interviewed at two Internet cafes. Young’s (Caught in the net, Wiley, New York, 1998) criteria of Internet addiction were modified to assess gaming addiction.ResultsInternet cafes were described as a safe and ideal rendezvous for gamers. The benefits of gaming included fun and satisfaction, fostering social support and teamwork, meeting new friends and becoming sociable, boosting cognitive techniques and intellectual agility, improved responsiveness and quick thinking. Perceived harms of gaming addiction were reduced time and interest in other important activities, poor academic performance, physical harms and emotional distress, disrupted friendship with non-gaming peers, risked family relationship and financial problems. Five interviewees (38.5 %) could be categorized as pathological gamers and two were problem gamers (15.4 %). The psychological factors associated with gaming addiction include low self-esteem, a strong desire for aggressive and exciting experiences, reliance on gaming to kill time and to obtain satisfaction, coping with problems and negative emotions, and obsession with achieving higher rankings in games. The social and environmental risk factors are accessibility to the Internet cafés, aggressive promotional activities at the Internet cafes, peer pressure, family influence and early gaming experiences, perceived parental approval, lack of parental supervision, and poor family relationship.ConclusionsThe study results throw light on prevention programs.

Abstract:The current study investigated the rates of addictions to Internet use, online gaming, and online social networking as well as their associations with depressive symptoms among young adults in China, Singapore, and the United States. A total of 3267 undergraduate students were recruited. Psychological instruments were used to assess various Internet-related addictions and depressive symptoms. Male students were more addicted to Internet and online gaming whereas female students were more addicted to online social networking. Compared with students in the United States, Chinese and Singaporean students were more addicted to Internet use and online social networking but less to online gaming. The odds of depression among students with addiction to various Internet-related addictions were highest in China. Internet-related addiction is a new public health concern of young adults, especially in the Asia-Pacific regions. It is found to associate with depressive symptoms. Strategies should address this phenomenon with attention to specific needs of gender and region while managing mood disturbances.

Abstract:This paper focuses on the challenges faced by China's basic education in the era of digital entertainment, especially points out the harm of online game addiction to the healthy growth of teenagers, and reveals the universality of this problem by citing statistical data. With the prosperity of digital entertainment industry, the phenomenon of teenagers' excessive addiction to games is particularly prominent, especially in the context of epidemic situation, which is closely related to mental illness. Therefore, the society calls for the establishment and improvement of the anti-addiction mechanism and mental health intervention measures, and at the same time advocates the transformation of the game industry and develops functional games with educational significance. School education has negative functions in the process of adapting to social development, such as overemphasizing short-term results and regularization, which may lead to the suppression of students' personality and innovative spirit. Educators learn from the intrinsic attributes and values of games, and actively promote the development and application of educational games, with a view to enhancing students' intrinsic motivation through gamification learning, realizing entertaining and promoting their all-round physical and mental development.
