Abstract:Objective To evaluate the usefulness of 16-slice spiral computed tomography angiography(MSCTA)for detecting cerebral angiopathy and to compare the performance of several postprocessing techniques. Methods A hundred and two subjects underwent cerebral MSCTA.The postprocessing techniques such as MPR,SSD,VR and MIP were used in all subjects, while virtual endoscopy(VE)was only applied in patients with vascular malformation. All the results were confirmed by surgery or interventional embolization. The imaging findings in all subjects were retrospectively analyzed while the separate performance of several postprocessing techniques was comparatively studied. Results On MSCTA images, all subjects whose intracranial trunk and branch of internal carotid and Willis circle were clearly visualized. In 52 patients with aneurysm,MSCTA clearly showed the tumoral size, shape, correlation with carried-tumor arteries, the direction of tumoral cervix and axis, and the spatial relationship with neighbor vessel distribution and osseous tissue. In patients with vascular malformation,MSCTA clearly showed the shape and extent of abnormal vessel masses. Conclusion Cerebral MSCTA can clearly show the intracranial normal arteries and angiopathies, while VR and MIP are the most optimal of several postprocessing techniques.
