Abstract:A novel idea is put forward,the notch filter and wavelet transform are associated to EEG signal denoising.The result shows that the association of two methods can get a better effect.Then it provides a useful result for the subsequent signal analysis and processing.

Abstract:In order to eliminate the noise mixed in Electroencephalogram( EEG) and retain useful EEG information,an EEG de￣noising method based on adaptive threshold is proposed,which is improved on the basis of soft threshol￣ding. Firstly,high frequency coefficients and low frequency coefficients of multilayer signals are obtained by wavelet decomposition. Then,detail coefficients is processed by using the adaptive threshold. Finally,the original EEG signal is resumed by reconstructing shrinked detail coefficients. The final results show that the proposed de￣noising algorithm has perspective of higher SNR and lower RMSE compared to soft thresholding,hard thresholding and Gar￣rote thresholding.

Abstract:The environmental noise and frequency noise interference on EEG for further processing and analysis with the extremely disadvantageous influence.In view of the traditional wavelet coefficients by soft threshold de noise processing method of waveform distortion and hard threshold de noise processing method after the oscillation phenomenon,put forward a new wavelet coefficients nonlinear continuous function attenuation processing algorithm.By means of the wavelet coefficients of the nonlinear attenuation process,the low values of a continuous function between the end of wavelet coefficients between hard and soft threshold,effectively avoid the waveform distortion and oscillation.Processed EEG signal to noise ratio and mean square error are superior to the traditional wavelet denoising processing method.

Abstract:To eliminate the noise mixed in Electroencephalogram ( EEG ) , an EEG de-noising method is proposed based on double-density discrete wavelet transform using neighbor-dependency thresholding. Firstly, high frequency coefficients of multilayer signals are obtained by double-density discrete wavelet decomposition. Then, the wavelet coefficients are shrunk with neighbor-dependency thresholding algorithm, which takes the statistical dependencies of the wavelet coefficients into account. Finally, the de-noising signal is obtained by reconstructing shrunk wavelet coefficients. The simulation results of the de-noising experiments on standard noise-adding signal and real EEG show that compared to the first generation discrete wavelet algorithm and traditional soft threshold methods, the proposed de-noising algorithm has the benefits of higher SNR, lower RMSE and Errmax .

Abstract:An EEG de-noising method which combines neighborhood comparison and wavelet transform is described and it was used to de-noising the EEG signals which contains pulse jamming. First, the algorithm of neighborhood comparison filtering and the de-noising principle of wavelet transform was introduced. Then 10 EEG signals was processed by the de-noising method. Finally, the de-noising effects and wavelet transform de-noising effects were compared. Experimental results show that both signal noise ratio and root mean square error, combining de-noising effects of the two methods were superior to the de-noising effects of wavelet transform.

Abstract:To solve information loss and frequency aliasing by discrete wavelet transform in the process of electroencephalogram (EEG)denoising,a new EEG signal denoising algorithm was pro-posed,which was based on dual-tree complex wavelet transform.The dual-tree complex wavelet transform was used to conduct a multilayered decomposition on the EEG inputted,so the real tree and the imaginary tree could be obtained,and the median threshold function was used to process the off-spring wavelet coefficients of the real tree and the imaginary tree,then the denoised wavelet was ob-tained by the method of inverse transformation.Simulation results reveal that the SNR and mean square error (MSE)of the proposed method are better than those of traditional discrete wavelet de-noising method,and the proposed method is more suitable for processing the weak EEG signal.

Abstract:Electroencephalogram(EEG) signal preprocessing is one of the most important techniques in brain computer interface(BCI).The target is to increase signal-to-noise ratio and make it more favorable for feature extraction and pattern recognition.Wavelet transform is a method of multi-resolution time-frequency analysis,it can decompose the mixed signals which consist of different frequencies into different frequency band.EEG signal is analyzed and denoised using wavelet transform.Moreover,wavelet transform can be used for EEG feature extraction.The energies of specific sub-bands and corresponding decomposition coefficients which have maximal separability according to the Fisher distance criterion are selected as features.The eigenvector for classification is obtained by combining the effective features from different channels.The performance is evaluated by separability and pattern recognition accuracy using the data set of BCI 2003 Competition,the final classification results have proved the effectiveness of this technology for EEG denoising and feature extraction.

Abstract:Low amplitude EEG signal are easily affected by various noise sources. This work presents de-noising methods based on the combination of stationary wavelet transform (SWT), universal threshold, statistical threshold and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) with symlet, haar, coif, and bior4.4 wavelets. The results show significant improvement in performance parameter such as Signal to Artifacts ratio (SAR), Correlation Coefficient (CC) and Normalized Mean Squared error (NMSE). Simulink has been used to model DWT based de noising of EEG signal implementable on FPGA with Xilinx System Generator.

Abstract:Wavelet has good localization characteristics in both time domain and frequency domain,and signal and noise present different characteristics when they are interfered and wavelet transformed,especially true in the case of quasi-periodic and time-varying signals.Based upon this nature,the paper gives the corresponding denoising approach for differ-ent types of noises,and further applies for processing speech signal and image.Result shows that it is available and feasible.

Abstract:To remove the noises of EEG effectively, this paper makes the EEG De-noising research about Wavelet and Hilbert Transform. In HHT De-noising process, first, according to EEG own frequency characteristics, the EEG signals are made eight scales decomposition by using EMD algorithm, and obtain eight IMF component signals. Second, reconstruct the IMF component signals after filtering. Finally, get the EEG after De-noising. The experimental results show that HHT method can preferably eliminate the noises which mixed in the EEG. The De-noising effects of HHT and Wavelet Transform methods are compared by using the evaluation indexes. It finds that HHT method is superior to the traditional Wavelet Transform in the EEG De-noising, and its efficiency is higher.

Abstract:The paper briefly elaborates the basic principle and method of wavelet and wavelet packet analysis, and on this basic introduces the general method steps of making a denoising for signal by using of wavelet packet method. The designed computer simulation is made, and for an EEG test signal including random noising, the effects of wavelet and wavelet packet de-noising are compared by waveform and specific quantization values and by using all kinds of common wavelet basics. Results show that, both wavelet and wavelet packet methods can effectively eliminate the noising in signal, while method of wavelet packet de-noising has more superiority.
A time-frequency denoising method for single-channel event-related EEG

Abstract:Introduction: Electroencephalogram (EEG) acquisition is easily affected by various noises, including those from electrocardiogram (ECG), electrooculogram (EOG), and electromyogram (EMG). Because noise interference can significantly limit the study and analysis of brain signals, there is a significant need for the development of improved methods to remove this interference for more accurate measurement of EEG signals. Methods: Based on the non-linear and non-stationary characteristics of brain signals, a strategy was developed to denoise brain signals using a time-frequency denoising algorithm framework of short-time Fourier transform (STFT), bidimensional empirical mode decomposition (BEMD), and non-local means (NLM). Time-frequency analysis can reveal the signal frequency component and its evolution process, allowing the elimination of noise according to the signal and noise distribution. BEMD can be used to decompose the time-frequency signals into sub-time-frequency signals for noise removal at different scales. NLM relies on structural self-similarity to locally smooth an image to remove noise and restore its main geometric structure, making this method appropriate for time-frequency signal denoising. Results: The experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively suppress the high-frequency components of brain signals, resulting in a smoother brain signal waveform after denoising. The correlation coefficient of the reference signal, a superposition average of multiple trial signals, and the original single trial signal was determined, and then correlation coefficients were calculated between the reference signal and single trial signals processed by time-frequency denoising, ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD)-independent component analysis (ICA), EEMD-canonical correlation analysis (CCA), and wavelet threshold denoising methods. The correlation coefficient was highest for the signal processed by the time-frequency denoising method and the reference signal, indicating that the single trial signal after time-frequency denoising was most similar to the waveform of the reference signal and suggesting this is a feasible strategy to effectively reduce noise and more accurately determine signals. Discussion: The proposed time-frequency denoising method exhibits excellent performance with promising potential for practical application.

Abstract:To retain more details during the EEG signal de-noising,a de-noising method based on SA4 multi-wave?let is proposed. Firstly,the repeated sample pre-filtering method is applied to pre-process the EEG signal,and the multidimensional multi-wavelet coefficients can be obtained by SA4 multi-wavelet decomposition algorithm. Then, the soft threshold function is used to process the multi-wavelet coefficients of each layer,and the coefficients are re?constructed by multi-wavelet transform to get the de-noised EEG signal. Simulation results show that compared with db4 wavelet algorithm,the better signal-to-noise ratios and root mean square errors of the EEG signal can be achieved by SA4 multi-wavelet algorithm,which can also reduce the detail loss during the EEG signal de-noising.

Abstract:Abstract EEG signals are the response to the electrophysiological activity of brain nerve cells in the cerebral cortex, but the collected EEG signal generally contains noise. In order to effectively remove the noise and retain useful information, after research and analysis, this paper proposes an improved EEG noise-removing algorithm based on the threshold method where wavelet contraction is used. The improved adaptive threshold selection algorithm makes it possible that the threshold changes with the number of layers of decomposed signal, so it can be applied flexibly in practice. The wavelet transform is used to decompose the EEG signal into multiple layers of high- and low-frequency coefficients. Adaptive threshold processing is then applied to the wavelet coefficients in accordance with the various decomposition levels, and the scaled wavelet coefficients are then reconstituted to produce the denoised EEG signal. Using the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Signal Noise Ratio (SNR) as quantitative measures of the denoising effect Through trials, the improved threshold method, hard and soft threshold method, and adaptive threshold method were contrasted. The experimental findings demonstrate that the wavelet shrinkage-based improved threshold approach has a better denoising effect than the other three threshold methods.

Abstract:To eliminate the noises mixed in the EEG effectively for completing the EEG analysis, a comparative research is made about the EEG de-noising effects of wavelet and Hilbert transform. In the HHT de-noising method, using empirical mode decomposition algorithm to have 8 scales of decomposition for the EEG, and get the combination of components of intrinsic mode functions, then reconstruct the filtered signal, obtain the EEG after de-noising finally. Experimental results show that HHT method can properly remove the noises which contained in the EEG. The de-noising effects of HHT method and the wavelet transform method are compared by using the evaluation indexes. It finds that HHT method is better than the traditional wavelet transform in the EEG de-nosing and the efficiency of the HHT method is higher.

Abstract:Traditional wavelet denoising methods have an assumption that the wavelet coefficients are independent in global thresholding. Then traditional bivariate shrinkage function model has a deficient in not considering the highest scale wavelet coefficients with no parents coefficients.To tackle these defects,in this paper an EEG denois?ing method is proposed based on high density discrete wavelet transform using bivariate shrinkage function. In this method,the children coefficients will achieve local and adaptive shrinking treatment using bivariate function. Then because of the appearance when the parents coefficients tend to zero,the threshold function approximate to the soft threshold,the soft threshold is used for denoising in the highest scale wavelet coefficients. The results show that this improved method is better than the soft threshold,the hard threshold method and bivariate shrinkage method from two perspectives,the actual signal processing effect and the objective quantitative indicators.

Abstract:To solve the problem of optimal wavelet basis selection in motor imagery electroencephalogram (MI-EEG) denoising by wavelet transform, based on the analysis of wavelet basis parameters and characteristics, combined with the characteristics of MI-EEG, we summarized the characteristics of wavelet basis suitable for MI-EEG denoising. Signal to noise ratio (SNR) and root mean squared error (RMSE) are introduced as evaluation criteria of signal denoising effect, it is concluded that the bior and rbio wavelet basis functions are better at denoising MI-EEG among the 7 types of wavelet clusters. Among them, the rbio2.2 wavelet basis is the most suitable for MI-EEG denoising. The comparison of simulation results verifies the correctness of the conclusions.

Abstract:A novel filter is proposed by applying back propagation neural network (BPNN) ensemble where the noisy signal and the reference one are the same in a learning process. This neural network (NN) ensemble filter not only well reduces additive and multiplicative white noise inside signals, but also preserves signals' characteristics. It is proved that the reduction of noise using NN ensemble filter is better than the improved ε nonlinear filter and single NN filter while signal to noise ratio is smaller. The performance of the NN ensemble filter is demonstrated in computer simulations and actual electroencephalogram (EEG) signals processing.

Abstract:Electroencephalography (EEG) is a diagnostic test that records and measures the electrical activity of the human brain. Research investigating human behaviors and conditions using EEG has increased from year to year. Therefore, an efficient approach is vital to process the EEG dataset to improve the output signal quality. The wavelet is one of the well-known approaches for processing the EEG signal in time-frequency domain analysis. The wavelet is better than the traditional Fourier Transform because it has good time-frequency localized properties and multi-resolution analysis where the transient information of an EEG signal can be extracted efficiently. Thus, this review article aims to comprehensively describe the application of the wavelet method in denoising the EEG signal based on recent research. This review begins with a brief overview of the basic theory and characteristics of EEG and the wavelet transform method. Then, several wavelet-based methods commonly applied in EEG dataset denoising are described and a considerable number of the latest published EEG research works with wavelet applications are reviewed. Besides, the challenges that exist in current EEG-based wavelet method research are discussed. Finally, alternative solutions to mitigate the issues are recommended.
